you guys know if i can get the visa renewed in sihinoukville or if im gonna have to take the bus ride back to phnom penh and waste a day doing that?

so far (only 30 minutes lol) very impressed with the internet speed at my hotel, i think i overpaid at $20 for a night, but whatevs it seems more than nice enough for me, i asked the cab to take me to red fox and he had no clue where i was talking about, stupid lazy me forgot to get all this stuff figured out before i got on the plane lol o well, wanted to check it and the lux out, might take a moto ride over to naga but not gonna play

I think you can get a visa at the grocery store or something in Snooky. From what I've read the guy who owns Charlie Harper's will be able to steer you in the right direction for everything. Believe he owns the snooky forums I pm'd you the link to. Pick any bananas yet? Have you eaten anything since you arrived in PP?

very intimidated, i think its a combo of already being intimidated before i got here, the hustle and bustle, and the fact that i didnt see any other white people and everywhere i went people stared at me

i never felt threatened or anything like that on my 30 minute roaming, but i realized that there was no point to put myself in that situation so i just came back and called it a night

i put myself into some kinda sketchy spots in AC and never really felt anything like this, except for when i thought me and a girl were lost and she wanted to walk down a really dark street that i thought i was the wrong way, thankfully a security guard pointed us in the right direction (she had no ill intentions, she just thought that was the way)

i just saw a rat for the first time i can ever remember

very impressed with the wifi, strong signal the whole time, better than PI, equal to thailand and maybe a lil better but of course havent been here long, but it got 4/4 bars which i havent seen yet, thailand was consistently 3/4 (which this is most times, sometimes thai was 2/4) PI usually 2/4 and went out every once in awhile

of course i had a way bigger sample for PI than thai or here

didnt see much food around other than sit down restaurants, the only street food i saw seemed like sandwiches, or whatever it was they had big long sub style bread

went to a pretty american small grocery store, bought a pack of ritz crackers, some peanut butter, a croissaint, banana bread, big bottle of water and some mouth was for 8.55 gave a $10 bill got $1 and then a bunch of different cambo bills back as change

really like that you can spend USD here, guy on plane told me u can set up USD accounts here and then i can transfer money from citibank at no charge, he said thats his bank so it sounds legit, lets hope so

but he also said that (and i was a bit confused by how he said it) that if you use the cambo money instead of USD you actually get like a 3% break or something, i dunno but im pretty sure he knew his stuff, so i guess if you withdraw from atms and get charged the 3% by getting their money u really are breaking even....?????......

cambo girls are hot, wasnt exactly sure what they looked like before but now that im here they are very similar to PHP girls, definitely like them more then thais, and yes i can fully make that statement after only 1 night in thailand and a few nights here, u can tell what ya like pretty quick

seems to me the language barrier might be a lil less then thailand was well which is pretty cool

really cant wait to finally see what sihinouk is like, if the wifi is as good as this and its more laid back then here which it should be i cant find many reasons why i wouldnt be fine stayin there for a bit

way to intimidated at the moment to get my hands on any bananas

when i left my hotel for the wandering a guy came up and tried to make friends and said we should go to the bars by the riverside, this is the type of person that i totally avoid, odds are he was just a nice guy and maybe if he had bad intentions it was just that i might buy him some drinks or something, but who knows and those are the types of situations that i totally avoid

cab driver kept trying to get me to get a girl, not sure if he was scamming or just trying to hook up a deal to get a cut, but another one of the things that i avoid at all costs

ok so again my spidy senses (paranoia) are way up, when i first got here and the guy brought my bags up he kept saying if u need anything u come to me, if theres anything we can get for you let me know

then i see the no prostitution thing on the door (its just a piece of paper with a lot of rules and that is mentioned) so i asked them if i could get a fan because its kinda noisy out to drowned out the noise (they have no clue what im talking about and think im telling them the AC doesnt work) and a different guy brings up the fan

hes like is there anything else i can get for you and i say no, and hes like u no want lady massage? lady massage is alright

im like no thats ok and hes like u sure its ok to do

i dunno, again its probably nothing, but they seem really eager to get me to do this even though there are signs saying not to

either way not doing it thats for sure

What kind of second rate hotel are you staying at? Read the sign carefully I would assume it would say something like underage, you should be allowed to bring guests back there.

From vids I've watched on youtube, Snooky isn't even close to as busy as PP. I'm assuming you're white? Please for the love of god go get a tuk tuk driver to take you to Happy Pizza. I first want to know how the pizza actually tastes over there. Second scoring bananas should be as easy as ordering a pizza in the same place. Please do this and report back. "Cheese pizza and a bag of bananas please" Find out how much a digicam is over there too.

i dunno sil it seems pretty decent and is right next to the capitol, not gonna smoke tonight just not feeling going out at all, not it just says prostitution is illegal, and remember earlier in this thread (or maybe it was a thread on another board not sure) someone was saying signs like that were all over in sihinoukville

yes im white

i was reading up on green stuff in cambo the other day and in 2009 there was something about a place called happy hippi and it listed all sorts of strains u could get like g-13 and cant remember what others, who knows but im gonna look for it when im there, the article said it was all very high quality (for outdoor)

i really wanted to go to redfox tonight (and naga) but the cab driver didnt know where redfox was (i shoulda had the address with me my bad)

the bathroom/shower is so weird, its just one big open room and as your taking a shower the water is going everywhere including that its aimed right at the toilet, so u can pee in the shower whilst actually going in the toilet

sil have u gone out in PP alone often? im not sure why im so intimidated by this place but i truly am freaked out for the first time ive been here, my hotel is mokodo hotel if yall wanna call a US embassy if i dont post again in the next 2 days or something, i dont really wanna tell my moms that and scare her

i went to go get a phone i was like how much he said 15 then i said for sim card and he said 5 (i think he is overcharging on sim card right?) then im like how much to top up and he says 5 for month and im like does that get me unlimited texting and calls and hes like wha, i repeat he says 5 im like 5 for wha he stares at me so i say ok ill come back and walk off

language barrier sucks

In the phills i see this allot . Often with no tiles or even a shower head . just concrete floors and walls . Oh and often no warm water .
Spent the last 6 months i was there with just that !
Saying that , plenty don't even have running water.

I ate happy pizza in Cambodia before. It is all the novelty of being able to go and buy weed with pizza. It's fun, but the weed quality is like Mexican dirt that I smoked in 8th grade. With that, you can request "extra" happy and they will make it slightly stronger. Have fun, and it isn't limited to just pizza, you can order "happy" anything that they have on the menu.

I spent most of my time in Cambo in Siem Reap, along with some time in the countryside. If you're looking for a cheap, safe place with close nightlife, I'd recommend it. I wouldn't worry about the signs about no pros, that's not a big deal, but that doesn't mean the pro can't rob you.

From what little I know, Snookville is a bit sketchy. If you're staying home and grinding, it should be fine, but if you're out late a lot of night, you should be very careful, esp. if you're alone. The main reason to be in Snookville is the beach.

Siem Reap has Pub Street, which is a couple blocks (plus all the intra-block "alleys"... which are safe on Pub Street) of restaurants and clubs. Tons of tourists there to see the temples. Good, cheap food (tried snake with ginger... liked it... 2 grilled pork chops with rice for 3 bucks or so), good, cheap beer, and tons of gringos to talk to (mostly from Europe/UK, Australia, US).

The only problem I had there was walking down the street (big alley) late at night and group of ladyboys trying to pickpocket us. Also ran into a group of wild dogs a couple times, but luckily nothing happened. The hostel was like 10/night for double room w/ AC, it's less for single and/or fan room. There was a 7-11 type store right next door (downside: also a club blasting dance music until dawn).

The main thing is they are going to keep Siem Reap safe, because there's tons of tourists. PP is huge and can understand how it would be overwhelming. Snookville is smaller and much less volume of tourists. I'd read PP Times at one of the restaurants I frequented, and there were often problems in Snookville.

There are at least 4 Happy Pizza places in Siem Reap, but the bananas are of minimal quality, it takes a lot to "fill you up." However, they are cheap and don't have to deal with sketchy people to get them. Wouldn't bother with tuk tuk drivers for that, they will give you less for more and same quality.

There were two internet cafes in the alley where our hostel was, one was open all night. They were cheap (75 cents an hour?), very reliable and fast. Not sure about wi-fi, but it has to be available at some places.

I'm not trying to dump on Snookville or tell you Siem Reap is a paradise, only telling you what I've read from various sources. If the beach isn't really a big deal for you, I'd probably go to Siem Reap, where you could meet lot more tourists (drunk German girls, etc.) and have a lot of nightlife options that are safe and close.

Had this happen in siem reap too

I'm not a beach person but I'd rather hang out in Sihounikville or however it's spelled

ok allin if i dont like sihinouk then i might try out siem reap, but im more likely just to head back to PI as thats where i really wanna be

beach is no big deal at all to me i hate saltwater and get sun burnt in 30 minutes

would you say if im walking down the main roads in sihinouk around 10pm or 11pm i might have problems? or only if its later or if im wandering onto side streets? ive been told not to go to ochoetel beach at night, probably any beach for that matter

do you guys where any mosquito repellant? and do i need to be on the lookout for venomous snakes?

i really wanted to go to red fox and naga last night to give another update on both places, but my initial cab driver didnt know where red fox was, and i was far to intimidated to have a motorcycle drop me off on the other side of town alone on my first night, if i come back and stay in PP again im gonna remember to get the location and stay in that area

i still dont get happy pizza, ditch green crumbled on top of your pizza shouldnt get you high, and i highly doubt they are actually going through the process of heating butter (or some sort of fat) on the stove and letting it simmer with the green before using that in the pizza

If you were happy in Phil., then wouldn't blame you for going back.

As I said, I've never been to Sihanouk. If you don't look like you have dough (no fancy clothes/watches, etc.) and are aware of your surroundings, I wouldn't guess you would have problems on main roads. The farther off the beaten path and the later at night, the more problems you could encounter, esp. alone. Going to the beach at night sounds like a bad idea, esp. alone (as in, not with a trusted non-Cambo friend). Going anywhere remote alone at night is probably not smart.

I never wore mosquito repellant, the main problem with skeeters was around dusk, had to swat them away left and right. Never saw any snakes, but was only at temples and in countryside a couple/few days.

I had a happy shake I think. Your logic seems right, I doubt it does much. However, if you discreetly ask the head honcho, then they should be happy to provide you with some low quality bananas. If you use them more sparingly (not morning, noon and night), then they may satisfy your cravings a bit. Otherwise, might as well stick to beer.

There's a forum called Khmer440, that seemed to have by far the highest volume and was the best one I found while I was there. Don't post about bananas or anything like that. It's mostly ex-pats in PP, but I'm sure there's some info about Sihanouk too (I know there's stuff about Siem Reap). You might ask about safe/unsafe areas and that sort of thing, or just read the posts.

The plus about Siem Reap is that it caters specifically to tourists, so the safety and language barrier issues are less of a concern (if you stick to the Pub Street area). The minus is it's boring, unless you like eating, drinking and dancing with a bunch of tourists. Also, most of the gringos you meet will be gone within a week, so it's not easy to maintain friends there.
