The Amari and Lux are straight opposite the Red Fox, both have WiFi, but quality can suffer depending on how many other users obviously.

If you're in Sihanoukville, here at Charlie Harper's Bar we have games 4 times per week, two tournament nights and two cash games.

We also have 2 meg wifi in all the rooms (3 meg weekends and evenings) and bar.

As for the town itself, it's a pretty safe place to be, then again if you go out looking for trouble you'll find it or it'll find you. Same as anywhere.

Beaches here, as mentioned, are of a good standard and the general 'vibe' is chilled. There's certainly worse places to live and I know many people who have a good life here for not much more than $1k per month.

I'm obviously biased, but i've been here for 6 years after living in thailand for the previous 3 years, and I love the place.

^ I recently checked the rooms in Lux out, and they have wired as well as wireless, and said quality was fine as they have lots of people that need fast internet for work (although this claim may or may not hold water). Rooms are nice, good bathroom, reasonable furniture, kitchenette/fridge, utensils, etc

Going to be arriving in Phnom Penh on this Saturday if anyone wants to catch up for beers. Currently spending 5 days in KL detoxing after a hard month partying in phils, looking forward to getting back on the wagon soon though.

It's a serviced apartment, and they have daily rates for rooms as well, it pretty much is a fairly nice hotel suite, with cleaning & internet included. And rooms were $650, $700, and $800 for the cheaper 1 BRs depending on the floor plan / floor. I did quite a bit of looking around while house hunting, and it didn't seem like anywhere I checked out (except Lux) wanted to give a contract under half a year, a couple said they would do 3 months but they weren't very good. I did see a place very close to Naga (right by the roundabout) for ~$350 if you're interested in that I can probably give you the number next time you're here, but I'm pretty sure they wanted at least 3 months. There was also an ultra cheap one for like $200 that's walking distance to Naga, and you could probably offer to pay a bit more for short term. Neither were that nice, but they seemed liveable if you just need a place to sleep / shower.

sigh, wth. i can get a serviced apartment in bangkok for like 3-500 near the metro including internet. and it's month-by-month too. i guess cause the country is much more developed and there's more of a market for them. 600 for the nicer serviced apartments and that's about what i pay now for a huge place, tho it's a 3br.

i got offered a room for $350/month with a balcony at red fox, need to see how clean and stuff it is. guess guesthouse is best option if i wanna just stay for a couple months?

I don't recall seeing anything nearly that cheap in Thailand.. have any names / websites of those 600 nice service apartments in BKK? May help me out next time I'm in Thailand, although I'm leaning towards Samui. I recall City Suite was not bad and it was about $25 - $30 / day, but that's a hotel of course.

charlie, what stakes do you guys play? i do want to make a trip to Sihanoukville at some point, will def check it out if i do. but i am set on PP/seoul/macau for a couple months when my lease and visa run out here in bkk.

kick2dante: yea rooms are decent enough. someone posted a youtube video in the thailand thread of a 200$ room it looked fine. area meh w/e. tons of foreigners live there.

PP pros:
- soft live game at a casino
- cheap bud/beer everywhere
- cheap life, i don't think i will have to withdraw from stars and can just focus on building roll

cons:
- girls are meh (anyone date a local?)
- it is very much a 3rd world country and full of touts

Seoul:
- soft casino game that im very familiar with (played 200+ hours there)
- know people there already/fun nightlife
- korean food is the nuts
- if i lose my roll can get a job teaching english easy

cons:
- casino and underground games raked to death (10% capped at 15 is murderous)
- spent too much time in seoul already

macau:
- wide selection of games, OK rake
- frequent tourneys though i heard structures are pretty bad

cons:
- literally nothing to do expect gamble from what i can tell

Right in the middle of town, 4 other bars at least in easy walking distance.

24hr Security.

Rooms basic but clean and have all you need, TV, Wifi, Fridge, Windows, A/C, Hotwater Shower, balcony.

Some larger rooms have extra furniture, tables, sofa's, etc, and a couple of rooms have separate bedroom, very large balcony.

Cash games (Tuesday and Sunday) are no limit, some guys buy in for $20 and rebuy, others buy in for $100 and rebuy. Highest cashout was around $400 if I remember rightly.

Tournaments are, Monday, $10 buy in, unlimited rebuys for the first 3 blind raises (1 and a quarter hours). Addon available if you have less than opening chips.

Friday is a $20 freezeout game.

We have two tables at present, both are full for the freezeout game.

We also sometimes arrange meetups at the local Fortuna Casino, the only poker casino in town. 4 more don't have poker.

Never have any.

We have an 2Mb account (3Mb Evenings and weekends) with Ezecom, I've used them for over 2years now and can't remember a problem.

Yes, there are powercuts, but when that happens we get an extra 2 or 3 online poker players come into the bar to take advantage of our generator and free Wifi
