It was a long day for me yesterday. I realised that I have been grinding far too much and not taking sufficient breaks in between sessions.
Started off with 1-3 NLHE at RK in the afternoon. Busted my first buy-in of $100 when my opponent (TAG reg) hits his set of 10s against my QQ on the flop. In the next orbit, I lost my second buy-in of $100 when I jammed A
10
into his pair of JJs. Flopped a pair of Aces and he rivered runner runner flush. Sigh...Decided to end my session.
Went to Naga and degen at the table games. Was down -$100+ at one point but grinded to the plus column of +$20 after about an hour. Ended my session and went back to RK to continue playing 1-3 NLHE.
Doubled up on my first buy-in of $100 when my AQ won against JJ. A few orbits later, I doubled up again through the same guy with AA against his A
K
. We agreed to run it twice, I won both and I scooped healthy pot of $450+. This session reversed my losses for the day. Table eventually broke and I headed over to the 1-1 PLO game.
Busted my first buy-in when my AAQ10 did not hold up in a three-way all-in pot. Fish with xx66 proudly announced to the table that he wanted "to gamble", called and hit his trips on the flop.
After I was down $50 on my second buy-in, I just wasn't feeling it for the session and decided to stop playing.
Slept for a few hours, then headed over to Naga for the 1-2 NLHE game. In hindsight, I should have stopped playing altogether and pamper myself with a nice 2-hour massage. Too much grinding had affected my abilities to remain focused and disciplined. What happened was that on a 955 flop, I jammed ($200) A9 into my opponent's bet of $25. I actually read him for an overpair (10 10+). And I was (almost) right. He snapped off and turned over 99 for a flopped boat. Drawing dead. FML!
Sigh...I know my reading abilities can be pretty acute at times. I just choose not to follow through. My $200 buy-in just went poof!
Decided to degen at the table games again. Same story, was down -$150 at one point. Then went on a mini heater at the five card stud/ultimate texas hold'em table games, reversing my losses to a nice profit of $150+. Decided to stop when my winnings was whittled down to $115.
For players who are contemplating whether to fly into Phnom Penh to grind live poker long-term, I have provided one week's worth of my records for you to use it as a reference. I am a little disappointed with my results but a win is a win. I'll happily take it any day.
Had I played my A+ game the past week, make minimal mistakes, no bad beats/coolers, I figured I should have been up at least $1.5K. Oh well...
