Seriosuly, is there any advantage to visiting/living in Cambodia instead of Vietnam? Assuming poker is not a priority.

From what I hear Vietnam >>>>>> Cambodia.
Vietnam is >>>>> Cambodia if you do not need live pokers.

He meant (correct me if I am wrong) that the opening raise in Naga's 1/2 often averages $20 (much like a 3/6) and the post flop bets are sized accordingly. There is NO CAP in the buy-in and thus the game plays very big.

OP , I've been living in Thailand for the last 8 months and I've been considering trying cambodia next. A few questions if you don't mind.

How would you describe the beach there?

3 Casinos..have you played there? what are the stakes, players like, rake?

Do you have a bank account in Cambodia?

I play SNGs as well, 18 mans on stars, what/where do you play?

cheers,

Adam

- Healthcare is really bad in Cambodia, if you get sick or need to see a Doc for any reason you should just jump on a plane to Bangkok, the local Docs are clueless.

- Its harder to live a western lifestyle unlike Thailand, you need to realise that most things are rough around the edges, and they don't have a lot of the entertainment/facilties we expect in the west.

-Petty crime is worse than Thailand. However on the more serious end of it there is lots of it. That said, its not random and its not against tourists especially, but if you piss off a local your chances of ending up in a ditch are significant. Like the Phils, guns are awash in Cambodia due to the war a few years back so be careful.

I'm not trying to put anyone off, when I was there I never felt especially unsafe or anything and it can be a great cheap place to live. But I have a few expat friends who live there who tell me what goes down and its not all the paradise that is painted out on here, there is good and bad.

i agree totaly. tough things changing for the good...not Sihanoukville tough. And i visit the country for many many years(never lived there but think all time spend could count for a very long stay and a reasonable insight in the country and minds of the people...

I do find the people more genuine then thailand and in general more honnest as well.

And are there any Omaha games as well?

Thanks already.

the 1-2 games are limited...its the 2-5 that dont have a limit buy in...at least until few months back....i am just back from Cambodia but i was with some friends that dont play poker so i didnt bother to go to Naga....but i am almost sure my info is still accurate

Aside from being a country of child rapists, Cambodia is also crammed with former Khmer Rouge henchmen. These killing machines who were enlisted as young children to kill on daily basis are now in their 40s and 50s and are as used to kill as they were in their early teens. Just because they took off their Mao hats and put on fake designer shirts it doesn’t mean they forgot how to pull the trigger or hack a head off. Having killed dozens of people since they were kids and never facing any repercussions or punishment for it, these people are all over Cambodia and still have the same guns and explosives they were given when they were recruited to kill. Unpunished and allowed to live freely after countless murders, these men and women are but a small part of a large group of armed and dangerous killers Cambodia is full of. Regardless of whether you believe those who say that Cambodia is safe or those who say that Cambodia is dangerous, by visiting Cambodia you will be entering a country where Khmer Rouge murderers roam freely, equipped with uncontrolled and regulated military grade weapons. Instead of believing one side or another, draw your own conclusions based on facts. Take a close look at the type of people who make up much of the society and the picture should be quite clear.

C'mon man. "crammed full of former Khmer Rouge Henchmen", "all over Cambodia still armed", "murderers roam free"...

This isn't even close to true. Sure there are some criminal elements in Cambodia and it surely is more dangerous than Western countries or it's SEA neighbours but it's not nearly as bad as you're making out. For the most part the people here are wonderful; warm, friendly and charming. The overwhelming majority of people who visit Cambodia will experience nothing more than a few small scale scams.

Like many countries a bit of common-sense goes a long way to avoiding theses types of situations. ie. don't travel at night in quite areas with your Rolex on

If you are talking about cigarettes, they smoke like it is their job. That, and the lack of game selection (sometimes you only have one 1/2 table running), are the only bad things I can say about Naga. Good games, great structures (unlimited buy-ins on all NL games!), comp buffet after 2 hours of play, free beer, good dealers, good floor.

I have a detailed write-up about naga ITT.

If you were talking about bananas, Cambodia is one of the best places in the world to enjoy such smokeables in terms of public / police tolerance - but I would not partake inside Naga itself.
