yeah, generally i try not to further antagonize maniac corrupt cops at 5am in a strange city when i have all my money and valuables on me and i have a plane to catch.

i'm not exactly in a position to play hard ball. plus if they are so brazen to open at 10 million rupiah, they're probably capable of anything such as planting drugs on me, or just leaving me for dead in an alley.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

I think if I'm in that situation at 5am with no westerners around and I have $1500 on me they prob take me for $300 as well. It's easy to say youd have paid a lot less till your in the situation. Tbh the cab driver might have been in on it as well

ya and freelancers in the philippines might start the bidding at 5000 pesos, and tuk tuks in cambodia might ask your for $10

first mistake was bringing that much cash with you in the first place

second mistake was keeping it all in the same spot, should have had some rupiah and $100 in your wallet and paid that at first, then if he asked for more showed him an empty wallet, then if he pressed gone into a compartment in your bag that had another $100 in it and said thats really all ive got

highly doubt the people in thailand are nicer than people in the philippines or indo just because you dress nicer

and clearly, even if they are, its as fake and superficial as can possibly be, and could go away at any minute if you do anything that doesn't live up to their lofty standards

I don't have any pinays and Singapore are the only girls I don't have in my sample size. (China, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia)

From experience I feel like Khmer girls have the worst attitude towards me in general and are the hardest to close. I'm talking about non pro girls obv. I was curious to see if any one experienced the same thing as me.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

lol you are trying to close non pro girls in an extremely conservative place

if you are in cambo you should be hookering, that isnt a place to go for casual hook ups

probably even harder there than vietnam

@lol69 Get insured against missed flights.

To use your favorite line 'if you cant afford insurance you cant afford to travel'.

Assuming he has a job, works set hours, was working the next day, was flying home rather than to the next sex tourist destination, etc.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

So i assume from jokey reply that you had no flight insurance, tut tut.

Also you posted you like to stay in $15 hotels, so no hotel taxi service that would stick up for you when stopped because their reputation is on the line.

Maybe your taxi from a cheap part of town was even in on the scam.

If you can't afford insurance and reputable taxis / uber you can't afford to travel.

Just got to the airport now, nothing went awry, felt safe the whole trip and the locals did seem (even more) friendlier than Thais.

Maybe, thats nothing to do with taxis though.

Or maybe it's that he's extremely obnoxious and unpleasant then, and attracted the wrong attention. He did refer to the locals as primates earlier iirc.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

he said he took a bluebird, he did everything right.... except carry $1500 on him loltrolol

trolol is just a massive hypocrite that finds fault in everyone else but cant see that him doing the same thing is bad

for instance he would 'never move somewhere to have sex' yet he will take countless flights to the other side of the world each year to do so..... as if one is better than the other

ya indo people super nice, if they were as good at english as phils were then they would be same same

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

I don't see anything wrong with carrying $1500, except you should always act like you are carrying less than $100.

Only thing I have trouble understanding with most people on this forum is the stubborness of not willing to learn the local language of the country you are willing to spend many years living in. Seems like losing a lot of value and it's also disrespectful for the local.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

some people dont learn languages as easily as others

some people aren't committing to certain countries for many years

not really losing much value at all

carrying $1500 on you anywhere in the world is pretty dumb, let alone in a country where teh average monthly wage is $250

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

some people dont learn languages as easily as others: agree, but most of them are just lazy.

some people aren't committing to certain countries for many years: my message wasn't directed to them.

not really losing much value at all: How could you know? You only hVW experienced one side of it.

carrying $1500 on you anywhere in the world is pretty dumb, let alone in a country where teh average monthly wage is $250: We are not all living on sex tourism blog and fashion blogging income like you.

Re: Indonesia & Jakarta

On average I'll have 5k usd on me a few times a month. I take some basic precautions but it's not completely impossible that I would find myself in a similar situation.

If I were in a similar situation I would snap give up whatever it took to get the situation over with as quickly as possible. Suggesting otherwise has to be the most busto thing I've read in this forum. Imo lol69 attempting to barter for a few hundred dollars is incredibly stupid to begin with.

I'm hoping you guys are just trolling and don't actually think giving up even a little bit of equity on your life for a few hundred dollars is worth it, but it's hard to tell what is keyboard warrioring and what is real in travel sometimes.
