There used to be. The 5* category has been fading throughout America, and only a handful of places have them. Remember, hotels have to actively participate in the priceline bidding process; it's not like the non-bidding sites that just serve as a middleman for almost all hotels. Usually the possible bidding hotels on priceline are only a fraction of the total hotels available in a city, and 5* hotels often decline to participate.

International markets tend to have a lot more 5* hotels.

Let say that I want a 3-4 stars hotel near commerce casino, what zone or area do I put in? What are the available hotels at a reasonable price?

It's probably going to be tough to get really close (it's LA ldo), but there is an LA San Gabriel Valley bidding region with 4 zones, 1 of which includes the city of Commerce. The priceline forum could provide some info potentially.

Re: How to Get Cheap Hotels: the official Priceline appreciation thread

For the first time I'm seeing an option called Resorts (Key West). Since the location has only one area to choose from I don't feel comfortable with this. I mean I've seen all sorts if resorts and you can only choose one level on priceline. I don't want to end up in a 1-star rainbow resort

Does anyone have any experiences with priceline resorts?

They are usually pretty good places. Check the priceline forum for the types of places people win regularly in Key West.

T50,

Any experience with Priceline finding Hotels in the Chicago? Was hoping to get a deal with the Marriott friends and family rate but it is still way too expensive.

Never bid for Chicago, but the forum shows people winning 4* rooms in a variety of areas for $60-$75. Sounds like an ideal time for priceline to step in imo.

Resorts are usually above 4* level, and have nothign to do with name. According to biddingfortravel.com, here are the hotels that they have seen in successful Key West Resort bids:
Casa Marina Resort & Beach Club (formerly Wyndham)
The Reach Resort (formerly Wyndham Reach Key West)
Hyatt Key West Resort & Marina
Westin Resort & Marina (formerly Hilton)

Could somebody do me a favor and post the e-mail address of the moderator for biddingfortravel.com? They IP banned me for some reason, and I'd like to get that changed.

Re: How to Get Cheap Hotels: the official Priceline appreciation thread

one of my buddies worked at coast hotels for a while. he told me that on busy nights when they got low on non-smoking rooms, that normally booked reservations got preference. So, priceline people would often be the first to start getting stuck in smoking rooms, and of course they would go ape **** on him.... anyone had this experience?

There aren't many hotels in that bidding zone outside of commerce - there are a couple but you're pretty likely to get commerce. A colleague was bidding in that area for 3-4* and got commerce (and she didn't want to stay there since it was for an unrelated work trip). You can stay in Pasadena or DT LA if you want to be semi-close to commerce.
