This post on the biddingfortravel website is reasonably up to date on what you might get in the Las Vegas zones at each star level:

Re: How to Get Cheap Hotels: the official Priceline appreciation thread

When you stay at a hotel using priceline, or any other site, do you ever feel like you get treated differently? I ask because I had an issue with Orbitz where my supposed reservation (booked three months in advance) at a hotel was changed to another hotel of almost-comparable quality much worse location a week before my arrival due to overbooking. This was the hotel doing it and not orbitz. I can't imagine that happening if I had booked directly.

That Westin isn't bad actually. It's quiet and has realllly comfy beds. It'll be a bitch to walk in the heat though.

I just booked a 4* Hyatt in Calgary for a night. The going rate was $209 on the website and I got it for $84. I didn't score it for my initial bid of $75 (I had checked to see what the last few weekend wins on the biddingfortravel forum and lowballed a bit. I used free rebids in other zones with no 4 stars so I didn't have to wait another day to rebid. I paid a similar rate for a Hyatt in Seattle/Bellevue and was really happy, so I'm looking forward to this.

I LOOOOOVE Priceline. I also scored my parents a hotel room in Bangkok at a new 5* Marriott for $120 a night (going was $250 I think) and they were upgraded for their five night stay to a two bedroom for free.

Hey_Porter, I have never received 'different' service...yet. My mom claims she did in Seattle on a recent Priceline stay, but I think she just stayed in a **** hotel.

Re: How to Get Cheap Hotels: the official Priceline appreciation thread

I'm always paranoid I'll get worse service or be judged by the employees, but I think it's all in my head. The biggest problem is the lack of leverage you have using priceline.

If the hotel somehow sucks or you get bad service, you can't use a line like "I stay in Sheratons all over the country and I've never seen anything like this!" They know you don't give a damn about their hotel or their brand name and that you're the exact antithesis of an ideal, repeat customer, so complaints to management will probably not get you very far.

Bump...

How is this not stickied or in the FAQ? I literally have to search for this thread every time I need to use PriceLine.

On my last two trips, Expedia has beaten priceline, I got the Gold Coast for way less than I was bidding West of Strip.

Re: How to Get Cheap Hotels: the official Priceline appreciation thread

Priceline is good for bidding on hotels but I would never advise bidding on a flight as that part in terms of departure and arrival can be so sketchy... which ponders the fact is it worth purchasing a package ( hotel + flight ) to guarantee you the exact flight you want................

Re: How to Get Cheap Hotels: the official Priceline appreciation thread

(Bump) Great thread. Haven't used priceline in years since a bad flight experience. Just saved 40 bucks a night at the Venetian using the OP's technique of upping the bidding by expanding the region when those regions don't have any 5 star hotels.

When you make a bid you need to fill in your personal details. Only countries available in the pull down menu are usa and canada.
