Thanks. I'm still a noob, how much am I looking to pay for rent for a 1bdrm in a decent location.

Anyway, as we have said, the price is whatever people are willing to pay. But that doesn't stop me from saying what I think of the price, and the fact this is an advertisement where your goal is to make profit, thinly veiled as "helping people".

Least people know now the truth and have a better idea on what is going on, they are free to pick whatever they want, and that's cool.

i really don't see the hating on this thread? OP take the time and effort to get 3 houses together and rents it out and have internet and everything set up for you and basically a party house. Its really good for people that come here on holiday and dont want to deal with the hassle setting everything up. even if its a 100% markup, i think its worth it. no one wants to spending a week looking for a place and then have internet set up ect. at least not for me, its just not worth the hassle.

When i first came to bangkok, i paid $1000 for a 4bedroom house. prob paid 50% markup or so but i didnt mind cuz when i got there everything was all set up and i was on a month holiday. can i get to bangkok and stay at a hotel and go look for my own place the next day and find a $500 condo for my own for $500 a month? yes i can. but do i wanna deal with that?

If you think people are getting scam, why dont u rent a place in CM and charge no markup? i don't see you doing that

I live in the house. Sure, I am paying quite a bit more than the "local market price". But I value not having to deal w any of the small stuff. It's simply a Time/Attention vs Money trade-off.
I think "GrindHouseCM" should be aiming to make a profit, as he shouldering some risk; this is obviously not a charity.
We have some cool characters living here from all around the world. And I am loving life atm.
Going back.....I would make the same decision (of living here)

Well we can agree to disagree if it's good value with 100% mark up, looks like it's not as you could get serviced apartments for a simliar price in a better location. But hey let's not beat a dead horse.

As we have already stated the value of the room is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. However, I am allowed to voice my opinions in the public domain just as you are, I am not hating, mealy pointing out the bad value (opinion), and the fact that this is more of an advertisement than anything.

My comments are to give newbs new information about alternative options that do not cost anywhere as near as much as this. You are happy to pay the mark up, that's fine, but others move to Thailand to live cheaply and play online poker professionally as they cannot do it back in their home countries.

They may not know any better and read this advertisement thinking it's an awesome deal giving the way OP has spun his posts. I am just giving more information and options for poker players. What they do with that information is up to them. OP can say this is not a business, but I think it is, and the problem lies with mis-selling, by calling it one thing when it's really something else. It does not matter if he makes a higher hourly from poker, that doesn't mean this is still not a business, it's another revenue stream. I think people should be at least made aware that he profits quite a bit from each stay, if that was put in the OP, we would not be having this debate.

With most of the Thailand regs agreeing with me to some extent to that in their opinions it's over priced, I don't think that makes me a hater. I read to many self help and mediate too much to be a hater. Although I do agree I have written my posts in such a way to emphasis points, but that's merely to get my point across.

Information is power.

This is stupid, I think fuel prices in Europe are over priced, but I can't go ahead and start selling my own oil. If newbs require information about accommodation in Bangkok, they are more than welcome to PM me and I will do my best to lead them in the right direction and get the best value for their baht.

Anyway I have said what I had to say, some people think it is good value others not, newbies can read for themselves and decide. If I have come across as a hater, I am sorry OP.

Hi there,

I have just arrived in Thailand and I am just wondering if anyone has any information on how to get onto blocked websites? I also do some sports betting alongside poker and I cannot get onto the BET365 website? Is there some kind of proxy you use here in Thailand etc?

I plan on making my way to Chiang Mai in a few days to have a look around, just getting a feel for a few places before I decide on settling anywhere.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

I'd say the criticism is justified. You can't post this on a public forum and take the free exposure and then complain about the criticism. Gotta take the good with the bad.

My 2 cents about setting up internet.

I rented a house in Bang Saray which didn't even have a cable from the road to the house for internet.

Guess how long that took all together?

3 days!

Guess what it costed to have a 75 meter cable from the road all the way to my house that's located on the sea and everything installed including drilling in the house?

3000 baht!

You guys make it sound way more complicated then it is. This is Thailand, not some European country where you pay a fortune and have to wait for weeks.

Almost 20k baht is hell expensive btw, you can rent a whole house for less in Pattaya.

Didn't know that this was an advertising sub forum btw, maybe I should rent some houses here and rent it out to 2+2'ers as well, seeing how much they are prepared to pay it can be quite lucrative.

Hi Edwin, you can reach all pokersites in Thailand, altough some sportsbetting sites have been blocked during the World cup because the thai goverment doesnt want that thais bet on the WC. Bet365 is probably one of them.

let us know when you are in town and maybe we can have a drink.

cost price + 10%? are you telling me that a house 15 minutes outside of chiang mai is 35k-40k a month? are you kidding me?

Sounds expensive though I don't think it's easy to find a house with spacious bedrooms.

Yes and no we are not kidding, its not only rent lol69 dont forget the other costs there are besides rent. biggest bill is electricity ( there are total 12 AC's in the houses and computers / screens / lights, 3 higher up internet lines, 2 maids. moo baan fee (probably for the security / garbage pick up. We pay for each house). they all add up its approx 10% with this 14k. then we also accept money on stars, ship that to EU bank and transfer that to thai bank which have costs.

why are you so obsessed by distance to the city? and its not 15minutes outside of Chiang mai, its outside the old citycenter. you do understand that there are 50k+ houses 30 minutes outside the citycenter, and 10k houses inside the city. 15 minutes out of the city it still depends in what house and area you are. you can be 15 min out of the city in a good or bad neighborhood / area.

Anyway this going to be the last time we ''defend' our price, It is what it is.

For those who are interested; for the 14k you can choose each of the available rooms(first come first serve) and the rest of July will be for free. We got some people interested now but nothing final, so shoot me a PM or contact by Skype.

they aren't live in maids. you are 15 minutes outside chiang mai. you're in the suburbs.

so other families living in the neighborhood are spending 40k per month on rent and utilities? that's simply absurd. chiang mai is cheap, and you're in the suburbs of chiang mai which is cheaper again.

at least you're still not trying to rent the room for 20k per month.

I paid 35k baht, excl electricity for a house with 3 bedrooms in a gated community with semi-private swimming pool in Pratamnak Hill, which is a high desire location right in between Pattaya and Jomtien. The best location you can get.

Chiang Mai is much cheaper and less popular. Only cheap/broke ass tourists move there lol.

I could get another larger house with 3 bed rooms in Pattaya East, which is a lot less popular but it's still Pattaya and Pattaya is simply more expensive then the north, for that I would have paid 22k baht excl. electricity and for the rest probably equal in square meters and location.

I didn't stay overnight but I went to the nationalized hospital that's a 2-5minutes drive from the house when I got knocked off my bike. It was good service and out of the 7 trips I made to get my wounds looked after it only cost me around $75 all together. It was air conditioned, the nurses spoke broken english the doctors spoke fluently and i rarely had to queue. Maybe this is atypical of Thai hospitals but this the one you will go to if you got sick. I didn't claim on my travel insurance as the excess was £100 and I was driving without a license.

The quotes I got from the private hospitals were 4x the price of the national ones so I avoided the but I'm cheap-skate and I weren't too badly injured.

checked out a 2+2ers serviced apartment today, bang in the middle of the Nimman area, which is the trendy 'thonglor' type area of CM, seconds walk to tons of bars, clubs, restaurants, coworking spaces, beergardens, crossfit gym, the university town area, supermarkets etc. all the poker guys live there, there's a skype chat for meet ups, etc.

40 sqm, bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchenette. lcd tv, sofa, balcony

currently 13k/month ($408), month to month no lease required. only 10k deposit

for a more budget option, just down the street is a 39sqm studio room for 6k/mo ($188) no lease, 10k deposit
