Re: Generating Interest for Budapest Poker House

In Prague at the moment and have a month to kill before heading to SE Asia. Very interested in checking out Budapest so if someone has a short term room to rent for the next month or a few weeks in there, lmk!

I might be able to help you out . . . depending on how long you wanted to stay. At the very least I can hook you up with a couch.

Re: Generating Interest for Budapest Poker House

Thanks so much for the kind offer. Just redid the math on my shengen visa (been hopping around between Ireland/Croatia/shengen so got tricky) and I gotta leave a couple weeks earlier than I thought to stay kosher... Might try and arrange something to Budapest anyway but it's looking doubtful. Thanks a ton though!

Re: Generating Interest for Budapest Poker House

Obviously the place is a mess in all the photos . . . but here's the overview:

1800 sq feet or so with 15ft high ceilings
3 bedrooms - all with king sized beds, a desk and an armoire
master (me) - private bath, private kitchen, separate entrance
2nd bed (ottocat01 - pictured) - private entrance to patio
3rd bed (shipmethaloot - asleep) - large window/street view
Large living room
shared 2nd bath

We have a 22yo assistant (Petra) who speaks perfect English. She comes by every day and cooks and cleans/laundry/etc. She also does most of our shopping. We pay her 11$/hr (which is actually about twice what she or someone else would take - but "pay-it-forward" imo).

The apartment is located in the very center of Pest, near tons of beer gardens, restaurants, sightseeing, bars and the danube river. here's a google maps link:

So far the IP has been pretty friendly to me

Any other questions, just lemme know.

Re: Generating Interest for Budapest Poker House

thread needs a bump What are prices for some common things, and btw, how much are you all paying for your place? What, if anything, do you find difficult about living in Budapest? What places have been your favorite places to go out for partying?

Re: Generating Interest for Budapest Poker House

Prices:

good internet/cable/telephone: 25$/mo
utilities : 50$/mo
prices for common things aren't as cheap as thailand or south america, but much cheaper than most of the places I've been in europe.
food in a supermarket is about 75% what it is in the US
restaurants are as cheap or expensive as you want. I usually spend about 5-7$ for a lunch and maybe twice or 3x that for dinners.
Our rent is 800EURO/month
I haven't really found anything about living here to be particularly difficult, though it is annoying that all tv is dubbed rather than subtitled. Even things like NFL games are dubbed in hungarian, so I just end up watching without the volume on. Like I've mentioned before, basically every young person (i.e. girl) that I've talked to has been able to speak pretty decent english.

As far as nightlife, there's a ton to choose from. Where we live is in an area with tons of bars. I really like the beer gardens (indoor/outdoor) bars like Ellato Kert, Psst Shhh and Szimpla, though Szimpla is a little too touristy for me. I also really like Godor, which is large-ish park with a reflecting pool and an auditorium that has a bar/club built into it, it's definitely a cool spot for starting or ending the night. There's also Morrisons #2 (there are 4 different Morrisons, I hate #1 - tons of brits/tourists, kinda cramped), which is usually pretty lively and a good place to meet/hook-up with hungarian girls. For clubbing/bottle service there is party island, which is about 10 minutes by tram north of the downtown. You can get a pass to all the clubs on the island (there's like 4) for about 10-15$/night.

That was a pretty longwinded answer . . . but i'm really high . . . hope this answers any questions.

Re: Generating Interest for Budapest Poker House

800 euro total . . . rent is cheap. You can realistically get a decent 2br spot for 500 EURO furnished.

There will likely be at least one room available starting in about a month. I MIGHT be moving back to budapest after thanksgiving, but if I do I will be moving into my own 1br spot most likely. PM me if you're seriously interested.
