Scott and Neely were kind enough to ride from Tallahassee out to Beaver Lake Camp and escort me back to town. Scot is a beast on the bike so he decided to hook my trailer up to his bike and took off to Tallahassee in order to make it back by noon so he could open up the bicycle house. He got two flat tires and still made the 30 mile trip in 20 less minutes than I could manage without my gear.

Some artwork a guest made for Scot a while back, pretty neat.

Leaving for Jax airport with Neely tonight going to fly back to Philly and get the bikes sitting in my Dad's basement then drive them down in a U-Haul, should be fun.

Great thread. So why are you flying back to philly? Going to uhaul a few bikes back to florida? I don't know if you already shared this, but can we get a little info on you? How old are you? Are you planning to permanently relocate to PDC? How long have you been playing poker for? Have you been a pro for a long time? What do you plan to play in PDC? I hope you decide to bike all the way there. Should make a great read.

This little side trip back to home base is for picking up the 9 Jamis Taxi bikes and driving or shipping them back down to Tallahasse, also good to see some of my friends and family before embarking on the long ride to PDC.

I'm 30 years old and not a professional poker player just like to play and figured it would be fun to quit my job cash out my little nest egg and do what I've always wanted to do which is ride bikes to different places.

The whole scope of the trip has shifted in a way after discovering Bicycle House in Tallahassee, the people I have met there are doing something that I am equally passionate about and could see myself getting involved with on a longer term basis if Scot finds a use for me. It would be nice to play pokerstars again, it's been quite a while and to me the software and game types along with customer service and reliability make it hands down the best site.

If it's not too big a hassle to get set up I'd probably be looking to take a shot for a few months and see if my online poker game can win some sweet toys to buy for bicycle house, the place really doesn't make money and he always needs funding to keep going.

Scot has poured most of his life savings into the operation and honestly I could see myself doing damn near the same because I have seen first hand the impact he has on the community there, college kids, homeless people, professionals, bike tourists all commingle there exchange ideas stories and help each other in various ways.

My prior place of employment was a property management company where I did grounds keeping/custodial arts and found myself really dissatisfied with not only the job but life in general. The final straw was having a new office manager come in and tell me that I wasn't doing my job well and would have to shape up or be gone, she told me this at the end of a very difficult stressed out work week where I basically worked with a torn or badly sprained ACL and to be told that by some morbidly obese newb behind a desk was just too much for me to take. They did me a big favor

This was taken the first week of my trip maybe 50 miles west of Philly, seems like a good time to share it

Me and Neely made it safely to Easton, decided to take a little day trip with the single speed cruisers we came to pick up.

Rode rode about 33 miles all told but also took some LANTA buses to save time and energy, they have nice bike racks on the front that can hold
2 bicycles. Visited a friend out In emmaus then came back to finally get some sleep, now time to find a way to ship these bikes freight because the uhaul method is way too expensive $1100 just for the rental, hope to ship them freight for a third of
That.

Did this actually happen!?! Haha

How long do you figure it will take to get to PDC? I was just in Cozumel myself a couple months back, on one of those overpacked Carnival cruises for my folks 40th... Do you know some Spanish or will you take it as it comes? GL and be wary of those blackout poker nights, they can be traitorous

Dub, I speak a bit of Spanish not quite conversational but hey at least my pronunciation is solid. Plus I have a close friend to call up in a pinch and translate ( yes you Marybeth ). Should take 15 days to get to Brownsville from Tallahassee then another 2 weeks to reach PDC, that is at a high pace of 80-100 mi/day something I would probably need Neely to realistically achieve.

The time would go up by a month or more if we cross at Del Rio and ride the Sierra madre south but surely it will be a more scenic and challenging cycle.

Funny pic from jax airport, bought a pack of smokes on the way there puffed down 3 or 4 before tossing the remaining ones in utter disgust.

We don't have a lock here so we managed to park our bikes in the velodrome garage

Allen from Slatington stayed at bike house over a year ago on a tour from New Orleans back home to Pa. Since then him and Neely have stayed in touch on Facebook, yesterday he picked us up and we drove to his place near Slatington and we took a great 50mi round trip ride along the Lehigh canal path to Jim Thorpe Pa formerly Mauch Chunk.

Allen's Rooster

Picture taken about 1/2 mi from Allen's place, on a hilltop with the Lehigh Gap in the distance, this was a big downhill too fast to take photos

Heading to the canal trail

Neely and the bike I was rode looking over the Lehigh on a nice slate formation

There was a classic car show going on at the Slatington airport so we checked it out, probably about 200+ cars.

My personal favorite classic American car the El Camino

Approaching the gap and palmerton, if you came through here 30 years ago it would have looked more like a post apocalyptic moonscape due to the environmental damage done by zinc mining.

House on the hill built in the 19th century and occupied by a civil war vet , supposed to be haunted someone lives there now. Picture doesn't really do it justice, very strange place for a house imagine having little kids there!

On the way to greyhound station we rode 3 people on the tandem with me standing on pegs, the tires gave me some wicked road rash that were healing quite well until I nailed them yesterday with a mountain bike pedal

Jim Thorpe Train station

A Japanese chin named panda

A large piece of anthracite coal

Penny farther at bike shop

We did a mini tour of Jim Thorpe, Neely and Allen decided. 50 mile ride wasn't good enough so we rode up a really steep and long hill. Was worth it though.

No wonder Jim Thorpe is so popular

A few shots from the ride back

Pa turnpike overhead

Lots of rafters on the Lehigh

A different kind of ghost bike

Bikes should be getting picked up by a trucker on tues, looking to fly out sometime mid week back to
FL and get this bike tour out of standby

I think there is some value in talking about alcoholism , the whole anonymous part is out of question for me but that's ok, no
Shame in my game

Edit I'm not posting this video to imply that I'm a functioning alcoholic but only for the value of his story

Rarely am I told not to take photos, kind of surprising since I take so many shots of strangers. The woman with her hand up was telling me not to take photos, guess I look like a child predator?(I'm not) anyway kids on a leash in easton centre square , think there is a day care not too far away. Bought my plane ticket back to Tallahassee , fly out Monday , I'll try to not get arrested or go broke playing high stakes at sands bethlehem

I will tell you this about alcoholism : the worst I ever experienced, is waking up in a police station in a communist country with no recollection whatsoever about how I got there... Sketchy, sketchy situation.
