Well Manila(or some othert place in philippines) is better for small(micro) stakes coz they don't really exist in Macau anymore. Before there was plenty of 10/20 HKD but all poker rooms there have been cutting them out(well heard that there might be some in new pokerstars) and not many 25/50 either anymore.
Many of Philippines rooms have 10/20pesos(well some places smallest game is 25/50) for small stakes but then again not many places have higher than 25/50pesos there often. Well resorts world and maybe Metro Manila and waterfront Cebu sometimes have higher games.
Rake cab is depending in limits in both places and obv Metro Manila and resorts world have rake of 5%(tough i heard rake cab remained same when they changed it).
So i quess it depends bit what you wanna play but still Macua is overall better.

If you can handle living in Phnom Penh. Try out naga world for a month and see what comes out of it. Of course cashing out is a slight worry. Handle that situation you should consistently make a good income.

Plays very loose. Drunks, free dinners.
Those people really love to gamble

Expect 4+ callers every pot

why is cashing out a worry? last time i checked, the rake is **** in phnom penh. they killed a good 5/5/10USD game they had running every night because good players aren't idiots.

Because it isn't too difficult to see some foreigner cashing out a bunch of $ and following him to rob him. I read a news clip of that happening a while back and the robbers shot 2 cops and got away.

Ya, I'd be interested in knowing this as well...any info whatsoever. For example, is there even poker? Info on stakes would be helpful as well. Nepal is awesome.

Can you expound on why Nepal is awesome please? I know nothing about it except it seems like it sounds cool to say you've been there.

I went when I was thirteen. It was cold and that was cool. We white water rafted for two days to a forest where we rode elephants in search of rhinos and tigers (for another couple of days). Then we trekked out of there through cold, rocky streams into the mountains (Annapurna range) for about five days. We also hung out in Kathmandu and Pokhara...both of which had delicious pizza and ice cream. My dad setup the trip as a package deal, but it wasn't expensive at the time. It was crazy how many people were hiking with us in fairly slippery/dangerous/cliffy terrain carrying our huge tents and food on their backs. It was just them and my family...so no other annoying tourists like you might have with other prearranged vacations.

That does sound awesome to me. Although I'm all about adventure, one thing I want no part of is messing with wild tigers on elephants...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n-3cFIuQBc

So this didn't last very long. Played a couple weeks ago and Metro has gone back to 10% rake. Not sure if they adjust cap based on size of the game as 25/50 NL or PLO is all I have played there. Given overall feel of collusion amongst locals and number of house players not sure I would play higher.

Resorts World is still 5% rake. They do adjust cap based on size of the game. For example 100/100 PLO is cap 400 pesos while 100/200 PLO is cap of 500 pesos. Better to play 100/100/200 for lower rake IMO. Technically buy in is much different as 100/100 buy in structure is same as 50/100 (4k min-30k max) and 100/200 is (30k min - 250k max) but with bigger games they almost never enforce buy in limits as have often seen people buy into 100/100 for 50k plus.

Naga World does not have $2/5 running daily. Nothing above $1/2NL runs according to their poker room manager. Better to play online in Asia if you're wanting to actually make money.

Is there a few live regs in Asia making 5k+/month? Anyone? Will go to Phnom Penh soon and grind it at Nagaworld, but outside of that, I have not played live anywhere else in Asia. So would be helpful to get some info from other live grinders. Thx

was wondering about poker in cebu. specifically, waterfront lahug. does at least 50/100 php run regularly? what about 100/300 or whatever the 2/5 equivalent is? and what's min/max for those buyins and higher?

what's rake? their website is pretty useless.

how is safety nearby the casinos? i have played live in phonm pehn but i felt the phils were more dangerous than cambodia...

thanks!

My info is about one year old but back then 50/100 was bit seasonal(sometimes it run almost everyday and sometimes maybe once in week), there was bigger game only couple of times outside of apt or appt. 25/50 at least ran daily and rake was 10% up to 300 on that one +BJ, 400 cap on 50/100. Never felt unsafe near the casino even though i usually went by jeepne(though obv i kept my money on casin)

I guess I will answer my own question and update this thread... Yes, there are a few options, outside of Macau, for a live grinder to make in the area of 30-50k+/year.

The first one would be Naga World in Phnom Penh and while you play the same regs every night (and more people in the high season of Oct-May), it is a very reliable option and I see some grinders do it every year (they usually do not stay longer than a year or so).

Manila offers a variety of options with Metro Club, Resort World and the new mid-high stakes poker room, Solaire.

- Metro has a rake of 10% (capped at 400 pesos/10$) but with the PLO games running right now, it would be easy to make a decent profit/monthly. The average stack is about 60k for a 50-100 game (about 1.5k US$) and a bigger 100-200-400 game frequently runs starting at 6pm in the evening.

-Resort World offers a better rake (5%, capped at 400) and bigger games. PLO 100-200 often runs here and NLH 50-100 and 100-200.

- Solaire is now catering to a higher stakes scene, with NLH as high as 500-1000 being offered (10-25$) and some decent size PLO games usually 100-200-500 (2-5-10$).

Conclusion : there are quite a few options for live poker. I am sure lots of people are aware of these possibilities, but did not post over here because... well, as poker players, we are a lazy specie

Where do you choose to play / most profitable? Are these better than Macau games?

Well, I played at Naga World, Resort and Metro, but choose to play online. Live poker just doesn't do it for me lately, and I get pretty bored.

I wouldn't know about Macau, but Manila is now offering high enough games to compensate. Solaire only has a few tables, and is not a poker room, as the tables are located in the Pit area.

Just to clarify, Resorts World never has 100/200 plo, and now with Solaire, 100/200 nl doesn't even run there because "high stakes" players went to Solaire (small player pool). Solaire has 4 tables and 10% rake capped at 500p ($11). The big game there has been 1k-1k-2k badugi. 1-2-500 plo does run a lot but seems to be all pros.

Couple of questions here if anyone can answer any of them its much appreciated.

I heard someone mention once you can rent a place in the Resorts World complex, anyone know anything about that ?

Roughly what would rent be for a decent 1 bed condo nearby ?

How many tables are usually running during peak /off peak times ?

Are the games filled mainly with locals or a mix of locals and foreigners ?

Any news on the new casino development that was supposed to be getting built in Manila ?

That's about all I can think of for now, thanks in advance !

Will try to answer these, with the little info I have...

My buddy plays everyday at the Metro, and he found a decent 1 bedroom flat just outside of Makati, closer to the Metro. He is paying 25k/month (600$ US) and the place has wifi and a pool. Very nice place.

I was in Manila for the APT and outside of playing the main event, I played cash only once. But it was packed in there and had to wait 1 hour to get a 100-200 PLO game going (and was waiting on the 100-200 NLH as well). Again, this was during the APT and nutsflopper stated that the 100-200 PLO is not running anymore... The poker room has 30-40 tables and lots of them are running.

About the new casino that was being built, I am assuming you mean Solaire... There is already some info here about it, and some more in the Philippines thread.
