gah, Mexico sounds like effing paradise. Hopefully I can get my start-up dumped for a decent price and get out there soon. Anyone tried getting a Swiss bank account type thing, like in panama, so that way you have reliable bank outside the US and can move somewhere new every few months? OR is PokerStars not down with that and you must have a bank close too where you're living?

I believe I read that they are wanting your bank account location and your new country of residence to be the same for now. I'm leaning towards moving to Cabo this month and getting the bank account set up successfully and quickly is my biggest worry for now.

I drove into mexico the other week to check out some places. You drive straight through without any problems. They only check your passport when your driving back into the US

also, should I set up moneybookers in USD or peso?

thanks!

ive been living in mexico city for 3 years with no luck opening account, i was always entering and exiting the country on vacation visas. recently got my dual citizenship so i should have my IFE (voting card/gov id) in 2 weeks that i can use to open a bank account finally.

My cousin works in the investment division of scotiabank and even using his connections he was unable to get me an account in my name.

i didnt read this whole thread but did anyone find a workaround to getting an account without have an fm2 or fm3?

with this new info im going to have a go again at scotiabank and at bancomer tommorow. i just told my cousin about this news and he doesnt believe me. Hes checking now at the head offices for me again, he thinks maybe the rules are different in cancun/pdc because its a tourist destination.

Worked for me at both Bancomer and Scotia in PDC. Didn't work at HSBC, they required a FM3 (or at least they thought they did). When you go in, just act like it's totally standard, most of them won't know what's allowed because they probably won't have much experience opening accounts for non-citizens. If you go in and ask what's allowed and what's not allowed, you're way more likely to get shot down than if you are confident. If they tell you that you can't open an account with just FMM/passport/utility, tell them you know for a fact that several others have done it. Sounds crazy but doing all this will help.

Just found this thread when I was looking for info on how banking works down here. I got to playa 2 days ago, I'm staying with a friend who has a beachfront condo on the north end. So far I like it. I'm going to start looking for my own place this week and hopefully can get setup rather quickly. Thanks for all the info in here and we should definitely meetup.

My Pokerstars' account will be active on Monday/Tuesday. I will be making an attempt to withdraw to Moneybookers, then to my Bancomer account. Will post results.

Any idea how much she is liking it? My GF does not speak spanish and I am just nervous that it might be hard for her to meet people and have things to do while I play 40 hours of poker a week

Do you have a USD account with Bancomer? If so, have you already connected it to Moneybookers? I'm working with MB to connect my USD account, but since that account resides outside of Mex, it's not too streamlined.

STARS-->MB-->MEXICAN BANK OF CHOICE and vice-versa. it's pretty seamless once you get MB set up

And how much are you losing in fee's conversions etc on average? I assume I will only be able to get a PESO Account first. I might see if I could western union from mexico straight to stars if that's even possible.

ONE MORE WEEK!
