Only in the Mexican states along the border. Other states, you almost always need FM3, and a minimum balance of a relatively high number.

I'm not too familiar with Mexico, so what states would that include? And what banks? And, what would be a minimum balance that would work?

Baja is probably the only state worth considering living in. The banks there (any) I believe have low minimums for USD accounts. Someone in Rosarito can comment further. Here in Playa Del Carmen, if you have an FM3 (which none of us here have), you can open a USD account with a $15k USD minimum balance.

No. Bank wire to your Mexican bank, or withdraw to Moneybookers, and then let them bank wire to your Mexican bank. If you have an FM3, you can get a Neteller account, go Stars -> Neteller, and they will wire to US banks.

Thanks for the advice. I was actually trying to figure out if there was a bank I could use in Mexico if I planned on NOT living there - but just coming to open a bank account/go on vacation.

We are getting hit with exchange rates, and ~$23 in fees on each withdrawal. Same deal with moneybookers. Basically paying the wire fee, and getting whatever the exchange rate is.
Hi Im trying to withdraw from 888 poker and im a bit lost with this whole mess. Im living in puebla and trying to do a bank wire and open an account at bancomer and then transfer from bancomer to my american bank... is this a good option? Like how much would you think i would expect to lose on a 4k with draw and transfer. I ran into a problem at the bank today however they said i need an fm1 and fm2 or something like that and i have to go to the immagration office. Hopefully I can optain those easily. Any advice you could have for me would be greatly appreciated Im a bit lost in this mess

They are telling you wrong. Should only need your passport and FMM (little paper you got when you flew in) lease and utility bill, to open your bank account. (utility does not need to be in your name, just match the address on your lease). Try speaking to someone else, or another bank.

As a rough guess, I'd say you'll lose $30ish from Stars to your Mexi bank, then another $40-80 from Mexi to US bank. Maybe more, depending on the conversion.

Moneybookers question: I'm trying to withdraw
the maximum amount allowed by my outgoing
transaction limit but on the withdraw page it
says I can only withdraw up to my "per transaction
limit" Whats the point of the outgoing transaction
limit if I cant use it?

Re: **Banking in Mexico**

Another moneybookers question?

Apparently I need to verify my bank account to cashout. MB said I have to cashout $15 or less and there will be a code attached to the cashout. This was done by giving them the SWIFT code and my account number. Waiting on the arrival of this. I'm assuming this is just going to be a bank wire since that's all the info they have. Is that correct? My bank is Bancomer. Anyone have any success doing this? Figured I'd do it this way instead of wiring to my bank (saves me an extra trip to the bank) to get verified. Any better way to get verified?

Re: **Banking in Mexico**

I had a couple of questions, mostly for curiosity.

I have a house down in Mexico, not in the boarder areas but further south (Manzanillo)

What is the cheapest way to get from Stars, to Mexican bank account? With wire obviously the wire fee, but is the conversion cheaper than a check? and is it possible to get a check mailed in MXN, or only in EUR? Check would be fine as I already have a place in Mexico, but would the converison fees from EUR make the WIRE directly from Stars, or through MB easier?

As for Neteller "you can get a Neteller account, go Stars -> Neteller, and they will wire to US banks."

For canadians, we already have Neteller, would it be possible to go Stars to Neteller then to Canadian bank, and would that be cheaper than the rates above with a Mexican bank?

If someone could answer some of these questions , that would be great.
