Read through the thread and have two questions:

1. USD Account in Monterrey: Several people have reported that you can open up a USD Account in Rosarito and other places in Mexico that are close to the border. Can anyone confirm whether it is possible to open a USD bank account in Monterrey, Mexico? I haven't seen any direct reports about this. Monterrey is fairly close to the border (about ~2 hours away) and is in the Nuevo Leon region.

2. Online International Wires: If I set up in Mexico and then leave to travel elsewhere, will I be able to send international wires to the US without having to physically go to the bank in Mexico?

Thanks a lot.

1. Last time I researched this I believe it was exclusively in the state of Baja California. So this includes from TJ/Rosa down to Cabo but not very far east or the rest of the country.

2. All the banks I've personally checked (where foreigners can actually open accounts with a passport and no work or residency permit), you can only make wires physically in person in the branch. There are some banks in other countries where you can do wires online but none in Mexico that I have ever found.

Not true...

So Monterrey wouldn't qualify as it's more than 20 km from the U.S. border, but it's a lot more than just Baja California. Why do you continue to post information that is patently false? Your "research" is either greatly outdated, or was extremely shoddy in the first place - either way you are doing this thread a disservice.

Dear Mr. n00b, do you personally know any foreign poker players who live along the Mexican border but aren't living in Baja Norte? It's pretty unlikely that there are many foreigners living in such regions voluntarily given the historically astronomical crime rates, war on drugs and the many other alternative options for tourists in the country of Mexico. I know plenty of players who live in Texas and Arizona who have family right over the border and yet specifically want to go anywhere except the border areas you speak of outside of Baja.

Respectfully, the information I provide is useful for real life and can't be compared to the rogue hypothetical situations that you have been coming up with while attempting to twist my words around. It's true that you cannot get a dollar account in Monterrey and it's true that the vast majority of foreign poker players and audience here on 2+2 with access to dollar accounts are living in the Baja states as opposed to somewhere like Ciudad Juarez. The poster's question is now thoroughly answered thanks to our stellar teamwork and collaboration. Mission accomplished

I asked someone from the bank today for you and they said the main English lines are:

56 24 11 99
or
01 800 11 22 999

If you need to call a local branch, I would say that's hit and miss because even if you have the number, it depends (if someone answers) if anyone in that branch speaks English and is present.

I have also gotten helpful responses in the past by simply contacting them through email on the Bancomer homepage or contact link. They usually respond within 1-2 days. I speak Spanish, but if you want to write your email in English I would think they can make sure it gets to the right place.

If you have a preferred account, you could contact the PCU, which used to be the expat branch with English speaking execs but I noticed they have been closing many of those physical branches in the past year or so, so maybe they are phasing that service out. If they are still monitoring it, the contact info is: customer.service@bbva.bancomer.com or 01 800 BBVA PCU

There is also a link for live chat on the Bancomer homepage if you're interested. I find it helpful and convenient for quick questions but unfortunately I think they only speak Spanish. You could try it maybe with Google translate if the other options don't work out.

Sorry if this was a really long answer, but as you probably know, sometimes in Mexico you need a plan A, B, C, D etc.

gl!

It's far from that simple. This requires a ton of different wd anywhere in the world. I think I've hit the daily # of wd limit before reaching $3,300 anywhere I've tried. Most people are getting currency fees as well. It's a huge cost.

Just because you didn't know about it and haven't been able to do it in the past, doesn't mean that the rest of us can't or that it's not possible.

And my point was that most players live in Mainland Mexico away from the border or in the Baja states. I think that's pretty clear. Where do you live at the moment and where did you live when you were in Mex?

I tried calling the branch but could not get a hold of anyone that spoke English. What would be the best way to go about setting up an account with Bancome without a lease or utility bill in my name?

Anyone have any problems transfering a larger amount of money(20k+) from PS to a mexican bank account? My mex account is a peso account not near the border. Not sure if that matters.

I read through some of the thread but couldn't find the info..
Are there any banks in Mexico that will let me have an account with them and have reasonable exchange rates and wouldn't be charging me much for incoming money through a money transfer service called Ria (basically a Western Union/ Money gram competitor).
Also, I don't plan to come to Mexico at all. Although if I did have to come down there very occasionally, that wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker. But I am not coming down there for account opening.
Except for taking Spanish in high school, I don't speak Spanish.

If Mexico is not a good place to "house" said bank account, I am open to other countries. I am mostly interested in less than average developed countries.

MrAggromonkey: Each bank sets it's own exchange rate. No way to know without trying it. I'd recommend CiBanco or Scotiabank, as anecdotally, they seem to give better rates on exchange. But if you don't come to Mexico, I don't think you will be able to open an account. No one I know has been able to successfully do this, some have tried.

GrandMaster, no one I know has had any problems with this.

iamGrr, you will need a lease in your name, and a utiility bill (does not need to be in your name).

Sabaneta, I am also able to max out my 2500 euro daily limit, in 2 or 3 withdrawals depending on the ATM limit. And I pay ~1.16 in fees per withdrawal. You're either unlucky, or doing it wrong.

Have people been able to withdraw from Party to a USD Mexcian Bank account using the Fast Bank transfer or via Bank Wire?

Have never set it up/used it myself, just wanted confirmation before going and opening up bank accounts again for said purpose.

I did a bank wire from party to a Mexican bank account (in pesos though, obv got bent over on fx fees) 2 or 3 years ago. Went smoothly. Can't imagine it wouldn't now.

Been awhile like I said, but I do remember having to get and fill out a form from the Mexican bank before I initiated the wire, which was a pain

Fast bank transfer works well. Party will tell you the rate it will give you in the cashier where it says Exchange rate at the bottom, today it's 17.11, so for 100, you would get 1711.57 pesos, no extra fees anywhere.

Nice. Any idea if the transfer works for a USD Mexican bank account as well?

Had my Skrill account closed years ago like many Canadian-based grinders, would love a transfer option for low-to-no fees.

I'm a newbie with Skrill...I've read their customer support is quite bad. I thought to ask here instead. I'm US citizen and planning to live in Mexico soon. I was suggested to avoid opening Mexican bank at all cost. Even some Mexican residences rather to open their accounts in US. Now that I'm wondering if I can send money from US bank to Skrill then deposit fund to PokerStars via Skrill while in Mexico? Is there any gotchas? For example, should I setup Skrill with Mexican address, etc or it makes no differences?

While in Mexico: US Bank <--> Skrill <--> PokerStars?

I think it matters where you set it up. I have recently opened a skrill account in US but I live in Nevada where online poker is ok. PS etc.. not available but was listed on one of the states that Skrill will do business with. So I think I am fine. If not then I will open a new account w Neteller. So if not in the few states that play online I think it does matter. Going off the Skrill site. It is limited where they do business.

I am also planning on moving to Mexico. Rosarito. I am planning a drive there soon just to check it out. I opened a capital one account opposed to a foreign account. No ATM fees from Capital and No foreign transaction fees. Citi owns Banamex. I spent an hour on phone with them. You can not open a Banamex account from states. So you still get charged ATM fess etc. using a Citi card at Banamex even though same company, it is separate. Just so you know. Be researching for awhile. Capital or Schwab are your best choices if dont want a foreign account. If going to be in same place for more then 3 months ok to open a foreign account. I plan on going to Asia when re opens so I dont want a mexico account then have to close, tranfer etc.. exhausting. Citi has too many fees. Minimum balance so I am not using. If would like to talk more. Let me know. I ll give contact info. I m new here. Trying to figure it out. I think best to move. Poker even in Vegas will not be normal for awhile. Plus I like to travel. So now good as any.

Hello,
I'm an American but I usually live in S.E.A. I'm living in Mexico now. I was thinking about setting up a Mexican bank account. Usually I just toss $100 from my Thai account onto stars when I needed some $ but now I want to make make a deposit on to my stars account for around $2,000USD. I see that stars offers a lot more options for deposits and withdrawals for Mexican accounts compared to my Thai account. The money is in an US account. I was going to have to wire/transfer it from US to Thai, then Thai to Neteller, then Neteller to Stars. ... I was wondering if it would just be easier to open a new Mexican bank account from a tourist visa/FMM. I have a lease but the utilities are in the landlords name and the wifi is in the name of a girl that im no longer talking to.*♂️. Any opinions on my best route?
Thanks
