I have been a lurker on the boards for some time but found this topic very interesting because of my personal experience. Not wanting to make a permanent move south of the border, I used a service that provides everything you need to open and maintain an account in Mexico. I would be happy to refer anyone who would like to inquire or investigate the need for the services.

They can provide you with just about everything you will ever need. Items such as a Mexico address, phone numbers, copies of utility bills in your name (CFE, Telmex, Water), lease agreements, etc.

They have a service where they can open a bank account and/or an account at a large national money exchange where they can handle various incoming and outgoing wires and other financial transactions. I know two people who have used the service to also find housing and not pay the "gringo" price for things. The owner is fluent in several languages and was a great help to me. Mexico is all about who you know and knowing someone who has some influence or at least knows the system in Mexico can go a long way.

I was pleased with the services I paid for. I am happy to refer anyone who would be interested in learning more. Like anything on the internet, I encourage everyone to do their own independent research and not take my word as gospel. Let me know if I can help.

yah id be wary of above poster's "service" endorsement. It's pretty easy to get setup in mexico if you just make the trip yourself after doing a good amount of research before you leave. if you're reading this thread and googling about mexico you know more than most of the poker players that have moved to mexico and gotten setup successfully already.

Would anyone know if pokerstars would have a problem with someone who moves to Tijuana to play but still keeps a bank account open in the U.S. and still works part-time in the U.S.? I imagine it wouldn't be a problem as long as that person can prove that they do live in tijuana, along with a bank account, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks for any input.

10gb for 600 pesos seems pretty good to me. i think i was paying 50 bucks for 5gb a month w verizon in US
Has anyone got one of these up and running for a macintosh? I'm struggling... I thought I've plugged everything in correctly and received the confirmation texts from Telcel but the program keeps crashing when I try to connect.

Did you have to put 5k in the USD account to open it?

I'm really considering doing the Mexico move because it's so close to the U.S.

Was reading we needed the FM2 FM3 documents so I basically threw out the mexico option. But after reading these posts, things don't look so bad.

One of my main concerns is all these fees. It just seems like I'd be paying 10% to get my money off of stars and other sites. Has this been the case for people? There's tons of info on this forum and I really appreciate it.

If anyone has any good sites to get a good condo or 1 br apartment in playa del carmen please share. Must make this move asap. Getting way depressed with no online poker.

Looks like peak season is coming up real soon and I'm gonna get killed on rent. Playa del Carmen seems really nice. Anyone living there without a car and getting by just fine?

I'm a little worried about the move but should technically come here next week to get a place and bank

Also, does Mexico require those of us in the U.S. to book a return flight or onward travel?

I live in Santa Monica, CA... LAX usually makes me book a return when going out of country.

elitesdont- i moved to playa 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it.u dont need a car at all everything is walkable and if ur feeling lazy cabs between 2-4$ anywhere.this is the rental agency i found my place through.also use bancomer for ur bank. they have a preffered customer unit which is specifically for english speaking expats and having them has made a world of difference.

this makes no sense. why would LAX the airport make u buy a return flight from a private airline?i have no return flight booked.lmk if u make it down here and we'll grab a beer.

Appreciate that a lot man. I'm currently deciding between Cabo & Playa.

Did you end up getting your place on that site for the listing price? How long after you got into Playa did you have bank & apt set up and back on pokerstars?

Will definitely take you up on the beer if I make it down there soon

I live in PDC also and think it's far superior to Cabo. Much more diverse and international/European feel, better beaches, better diving, still has a lot going on in the low season, etc. The one thing it doesn't have is surf.

I don't have a car. PDC is very walkable, but as mentioned, it's a $3 cab anywhere else in town. There's 1 highway that runs along the coast from Cancun to Tulum (PDC is half way between). There's an awesome bus (called the Colectivo) that runs every few minutes along the highway. It's $1.50 to go as far as you want, so if you do want to go kite surfing it in Tulum, golfing in Cancun, cave diving in the centoes, snorkeling in Akumal, etc. it's super easy and cheap.

I always just buy a one-way ticket and never have problems.

We should all get together to grab beers sometime SOON!

Thanks Bump.

Lipo, if you are still around, did you end up getting a way to cashout of stars in Mexico?

Cabo is only a 2 hour flight from here so I'm thinking about making a quick trip.

A little torn between Cabo & PCD still but it doesnt really matter. I'd like to be spending just 1k on a 2 bedroom place near the beach but looks like that's a little bit more expensive and I'd only get a 1 br out of it. Want a really nice place though... gotta be living right so I can grind the right way :0

Anyone have experience grinding from Puerto Vallarta? Looking to spend a week+ grinding there in the next few months, and will probably just gamble on internet quality, but any first hand experience would be sweet.

you cant go wrong if you're deciding between playa and cabo.the housing market is strong in playa,so dont expect to pay less than advertised. also, the length of time it took me to set up bank/apt/stars is pretty irrelevant as im a paragon of inefficiency : (

reed-
im sure they do but you're probably better off just using ADO buses for 10$ a trip since they have AC and run on a schedule.

Yep, use the ADO buses. The colectivo runs along the freeway by the airport, but doesn't turn into the airport, so it'd be a real pain.

Also, let's try to keep this thread dedicated to Mexican Banking issues.

Here's a thread for the Riviera Maya (Playa Del Carmen, Cancun, and Tulum):

*While opening a bank account is there a minimum amount of money that you have to deposit? I don`t wanna take too much cash with me while making the move...
