So if we get an FM3 or w/e we could do that?

We're trying to eliminate the fx fees, so the above would still incur the fx fees plus it has the additional problems already mentioned.

I know I've seen a few posts in this thread about people living in Playa Del Carmen. A friend of mine lives there now, she's not a poker player, but looking for a new place to stay as her current roommates moving. She speaks passable Spanish, great cook, can clean, super nice, etc. She's sell's timeshares in Playa for a job. Now is the slow season down there so of course $ is a little tight.

If anyone looking for a roommate right now in Playa shoot me a PM. Even a nice couch would probably work!

Thanks.

Mark

I'm absolutely dumbfounded after reading that playa del carmen post, I'm portuguese so I look like i might belong here and therefore might not get hassled as much, but that just seems really off. Unless he got an apartment in the hood in which case, you could have the same experience in any of the 10 biggest cities in america, you get what you pay for! and to be honest here you get way more than you pay for.

FWIW I'm paying 1500/mo for a 2/2 with 3 beds, 50m from the beach in one of the most beautiful parts of playa, surrounded by some of the nicest restaurants condos and hotels in the city. The Federales/Municipales and local building security are constantly on watch, especially after dark. Tonight I walked the 10 minutes back to my place from my friends, down a semi dark road, alone at midnight and felt incredibly safe, passing 2 building security guys doing rounds and some police on the way.

I was wondering aloud last night how much someone would have to pay me to live in vegas.

don't you have to pay 2k+/month there to have anything marginally resemble safety?

I'd say for for 1k/mo in vegas and 1500/mo in playa you get the same level of safety, but in playa you get 3x the quality

i also don't have to scrub my veggies or brush my teeth with bottled water...

I've always felt safe in vegas, except on the freeway on my bike. I rarely go to the strip anymore though.

I think you're looking for the Vegas thread, life nit

Will be in Mexico on tuesday. I won't get to my condo till about 3pm so if I have time I will try to get to the bank before it closes and set up an account. Will update with results. Going to try Banamex I guess?? seems to be what most people use.

EDIT: Whats the best way to get a cell phone down there? Best provider? Any of you have any special plans through an American company?

yo OD, doubt a bank account should be first priority for you. You need Utility bill and lease agreement first...unless you already have copies of both of those.

gahhhh just got the phone call and she said it would be about a week...they are escalating the case to upper management. standard procedure from what I've heard, but how the hell are there supernova's that are getting everything approved in like 3 days?! I'm platinum star and on my way, but am I really that much less important of a player to them?!

it's still a good thread
i heard the best way to get a phone is through the walmart.. idk about rosarito, but yeah..
just buy a phone and minutes.. is what i was told.
and call your current provider and tell 'em to turn your phone on 'vacation'.. which is like a dollar a month.. or discontinue it w/e..

HSBC and santander are confirmed good and easy with no FM3 requirements. I heard banamex is legit as well, but dont know personally.

wrong thread for this, and I think ur really barking up the wrong tree wanting someone employed on or social security posting on a poker forum. Most people who would be interested here are going to be some kind of full time poker player moving to mexico.

boliver what's the diff between playas de tijuana and tijuana? It's just the area near the ocean right?

I've only spent 1 night there, but playas is like 5 mins from tijuana by freeway...so from the limited amount I've seen there isn't an issue of transients or other poverty issues that you see in parts of tijuana that wander over to playas. I think donald trump was actually building a hotel there but stopped a few years ago because of the financial crisis. This guy paul lives down there...forget his 2p2 name but if you want his info I could connect you with him as he'd know much more about it and has been there for a month or 2.

I got a USD checking account today at Santander. The only thing I needed was my passport and a utility bill. I got a phone line at telnor for 15 a month and that was good enough.

So is it better then to open a USD checking account as opposed to a peso checking account down there then? I read earlier posts that USD checking accounts in mexico were based in U.S. territories and that PS wouldn't let you withdraw to them, could be wrong though. I am planning on moving to tijuana next month, so any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
