Re: Balneário Camboriú (Brazil) - A great place for poker players.

During high season, at summer, which is from mid-december to end of feb. the city gets really crowded, over-crowded actually. The population goes to about 1 million people. I personally find it way way better when it is not during high season. Theres enough people who live there and go partying there.

Off-season there are ways more girls and the girls are way hotter too.

Off-season, a lot of tourists come to Balneário, most of them are men. Girls from other areas of Brazil are not nearly as hot or pretty as the ones who already live there.

The south region of Brazil, which has 3 states, has all the hot chicks that are produced in Brazil. In other regions, it is like everywhere else. Ugly chicks, normal chicks, hot chicks, and tiny percentage of really amazing chicks. In BC, off-season, its girls everywhere and very hot. In northeast Brazil, there are also way more girls than guys, but many of these chicks are ugly.

Mid-october the temperature is around 20-25 celsius, not sure what this means in fahrenheit. Off-season, green valley opens on holidays or once a month, as opposed to being opened every weekend during high season. It is up to you to make your decision.

Added (akgabe). To add to the post above, I think SP, RJ and BH has tons of hot chicks too, maybe not as high % as the south, RJ probably comes the closest.

Cool, we will talk there.

SP has a ton of hot chicks, but people from Sao Paulo are in general arrogant and think theyre the best because they are from Sao Paulo. Similar to how New Yokers think they are superior to people from other U.S. states. So, there indeed hot chicks in Sao Paulo, but it is very hard to me them at a party. In Sao Paulo, people only meet hot, well educated chicks, only through network of friends, work, college. In RJ and MG is way different in my opinion. People from RIO and MG and way more receptive than people from Sao Paulo

Is there an airport in the city or do you travel somewhere nearby first and take a cab/bus or smth to the city?

Great stuff. What an awesome looking place.

Astounding that a city with a skyline as substantial as that has such a relatively low population.

Anyway, just wanted to give fmorgen and the rest props for taking the time out to post in this thread. Damn near every Brazilian I have ever met has been really cool (even the ones from Sao Paulo!). Might be time to start learning Portuguese and formulate a plan to head south of the equator.

By the way, is there anyplace in South America that has the brilliant fall colors that we have up here in the north?

I haven't been to Brazil yet but to a lot of other countries where far less people speak proper English than in Brazil. You allways get around (taxi, food, etc) and you allways find enough people with English skills. You often don't need much conversation to pick up girls (if that's what concerns you most about communicating with locals ). A friend of mine told me that about a quarter of Brazilians speak proper English, in a tourist town like that it's probably at least half of the people since people going there are generally wealthier than the average Brazilian.

Re: Balneário Camboriú (Brazil) - A great place for poker players.

Nice thread. I just moved to buenos aires and so far I'm loving it. Day 1 lol.

I am an amican poker player with a Sense for adventure. I hate hate resorts. I moved out here to play poker, learn Spanish, see a lot of cool **** ands meet a lot of beautiful women.

I did not come out here to practice English and meet other expats.

If you think I'd like BC, I'll make a note to see the place. Would September be a good time?

I haven't been to BC but I recently spent 5 weeks in a neighboring town and getting a taxi was impossible in english and ordering food were not possible in english 80% of the time.

@topic you can use spanish around here too. A lot of people from Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay spent theirs summers here, for the locals spanish > english.

I was in floripa, and plan to go back later this year. And yeah Spanish works fine when speaking. Spanish speakers will have a hard time understanding Portuguese though.

Yeah if you like BA you will like south part of Brazil (BC included) although I haven't been to BC, I been to the south before. You could probably get around with spanish and some basic portuguese imo. I understand spanish with no problems, but people who speak spanish have a hard time understanding me when I speak portuguese.

You travel to NVT (Navegantes) by plane, then take a cab or rent a car to BC. Its about a 30 minute drive.

Well, not in this region. You can get around with just English, and some little Spanish or Portuguese. It wont be hard at all for you to learn some portuguese if you know German and English already. Theres a city here closeby, like 30km away, called Blumenau, which was a German colony back in the day, and lots of people there are German descendents and speak German, theres also an Oktober Fest there every year, which happens in October, not in september like in Germany... hahaha..

You should def. make a visit here.

Pretty awesome youre in Argentina. I havent been there, and I have friends there who I wanna visit in the future... Seems like a cool place to be. I think here it a lot more fun, not even comparable. I guess you would have to come here and make the conclusion yourself.

About the visa, well, theorically it is kinda strict to stay longer than 6 months. But its very easy to get around it, as you can apply for a student visa on some study program, some course at some university, which would cost very little, prolly dont have to show me that often, and be able to stay around here for as long as you want. Its not a big deal to do that here. Very different if a Brazilian wanted to do something similar in the U.S. for example.

add me on skype you if you have more questions. its ´fmorgen´

I would snap move to this area if I knew I could get a student/work visa. Haven't been to school in 6 years, and play poker for a living so I doubt either are happening.

Take some languages classes (portuguese), that way you get something out of it too.

Re: Balneário Camboriú (Brazil) - A great place for poker players.

Hey fmorgan, my girlfriend and I are currently living in Buenos Aires, we have been here for about 3 months and are planning on staying in Brazil for about 4ish months as well (mostly backpacking).

I'll add you to skype if you don't mind, (cause I don't have pms enabled yet), because i've got a few questions. We were looking for a place to stay in Brazil for about a month while we learnt some portuguese, but places like Floripa and Rio are probably a bit beyond our budget, especially in the summer (Decemberish) when we would arrive, so some advice would definitely be appreciated.

Re: Balneário Camboriú (Brazil) - A great place for poker players.

This place sounds awesome. Thanks for posting the thread, I added you on Skype

Some questions

Can you talk a bit more about language - how well would someone get on with no Portuguese? Do locals (girls) speak any English? Are they willing to try to talk to people etc?

How is the restaurant / dining scene? Are they many really good restaurants?

How does the nightlife scene work there? is it mostly centered around nightclubs? Are there many cool bars, more chilled, live music, etc? Is there somewhere good to party every night of the week if you want to?

Are there many poker players there? Foreigners? Do you guys hang out with many locals/ non poker players?

I lived in Buenos Aires for 2 years, looking for somewhere to move in September, this place is definitely high on my interest list after this thread.

Thanks

I got you on skype... we can talk in more detail there.

This seems like the best place for you.

I will answer the questions here kinda quickly.

1- Some girls know some English. They wanna talk to everybody, meet new people, very friendly.

2- There are very good restaurants, you just have to know where to find them. The ones on the beach front are mostly medium, average restaurants. The premium ones are in other areas.

3- Mostly centered around nightclubs, Green Valley is the world 3rd best, Warung the 26th, or similar ranks.. There are less chill places for rock, for example, like an Irish pub. Theres only 1 thats pretty cool to go to. There are big concerts all the time. The last international one was Men at Work. Parties mostly everynight, except for Mondays and Sundays.

4- There are about 15 Brazilian poker players living here, I know them, but dont hang out with them. Not sure why, they are all cool guys. All the people I know here are not from the poker world, except for the 2 roommates. Dont know of foreign poker players living here yet.
