ive been to brazil and have stayed there for an extended period of time. youre right, there are plenty of ATMs and access to money was easy. i'm a member of some brazilian forums and i'm aware that the chip buying/selling is a huge industry so getting my money off wouldnt be a concern

the concern with the bank account, is as an american, pokerstars requires us to have a non-US bank account in order to open our accounts to begin playing with. that's simply not possible for poker players moving without a lot of liquid capital (<150k)

for ppl like prodigalson who already has a non-US account setup in thailand, or other non-US players looking for a chill vacation spot, this is an ideal grind spot. i just didnt want a bunch of americans to think theyd be able to roll up here and grind for 6mos with no issues
I didnt know about these rules for Americans. I guess American players would have to get a Brazilian checking account, which seems to be a hard thing to do. So Americans are pretty much screwed with regards to pokerstars. That sucks a lot!!

How about for other sites? Fulltilt, Party Poker, other euro sites.

I think that if Americans came down here, it would be worth it for them to play these other sites that were closed before the black friday, like PP, pacific poker, etc. Also, the live games here are amazing.

I'm staying in florianopolis for 5 weeks. Do you know if there a bus to Balneário? I'd like to check it out. Also are there reasonable hotels in the area?

How is this incorrect? According to this site it's pretty easy for foreigners to get a CPF.

Is there decent surfing here/nearby? Like a more chill/beginner spot, looking to do a month somewhere on/near the beach later this year.

Very reasonable hotels here. Look for them on submarino.com or decolar.com or just a search on google, then check on google map to see where it is located at. Av. Atlântica is the street by the beach, and Av. Brasil is the first parallel street to Atlântica. Make sure to get a hotel on one of these streets, there are a bunch of them.

When I first came here, I stayed in a 4-star, might have been 3-star (dont know the difference) and it cost me 130 reais per night. It is called Marambaia. But any hotels on either of these streets is perfectly fine.

Let me know when you come to Balneário, I can give you a city tour...

I dont know what you consider decent surfing. There are surfers here and on praia brava (adjacent city just over a hill to BC, its not even a 5 min drive). But waves are small

I think you should research about the surfing on google or something, I dont know much at all about surfing...

About the CPF for foreigners. I did some research online and it seems that for most poker players, they have to go for the Non-resident application form and not the Foreigners-in-Brazil form.

Here is a link to the Non-resident form http://www.vencer-rs.com.br/parceiro...#Naoresidentes

It is in portuguese, try putting it on google translator. If you have trouble, I can help with the translation. Does not seem a hard thing to do. Just a few simple documents.

More about CPF

http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/ap...geiro/fcpf.asp

For a month you can stay in a ok place to live in for 1k reais. Right at the beach, but facing backwards, or on the first parallel street.

For a very nice and modern 1-bedroom for a month it would be 1500-2000 reais.

Quando me mudei, comprei tudo novo.

A ideia é eu ficar so um ano o menos..

This has all types of places, furnished, semi-furnsihed or empty. In general furniture is ok but its hard to find a very good furnished place.

This site has all the best available stuff. If you google search you might find a few more places that are exlusive to some real estate companies, and maybe then find smth else nice.

If you plan to live in BC tho it could be worth it to rent a semi-furnished place (kitchen and stuff) and then buy the rest yourself.

When I moved here i bought everything new but its not necessary. Theres a ton of stores that sell used stuff and they almost always have smth really nice, modern and cheaper. Best way to save money on a nice furnished place.

The plan is to stay there less then a year. I might change my mind ocne I'm there but i am looking for smth for that duration now. So I am going to look into what you recommended and if itsn ot too complicated to get top stuff and get a place furnished I will do that.

This comment is kind of stupid for you to make. There is all the information you need to know about this town in the first 3 pages, and I am replying to everyone indivudually. So, it is stupid to reply to a Brazilian in English. If you have any questions, you can ask them in English.

I am very nice to everyone and happy to answer all questions.

If you are interested in coming down here to Balneário, you can PM, add me on skype, w;e... Youre comment just sounds like you opened this topic already at the last page and saw some comments in portuguese. Read the whole thing from the beginning.
