he's referring to doing a swap with someone

but if you wanna actually deposit (to get sign up bonus etc.) you can use entropay. only use it once for that reason, as fees are high

yeah you can't just use the visa debit, it raises a flag as you said. you can't use moneybookers or netteller either to deposit with a thai card

thx guys i appreciate the input, yeah i do want to get the signup bonus, i will look into entropay. Is the current signup bonus STARS600? Is there a better one that I could use to also get into the vip program?

I also had a question about cashing out? I read some pages back saying that I would be able to cash out to my thai bank. Would there be any red flags in doing that? Or are there any other better alternatives?
Ask us about Thailand! Quote

yeah just use that code, everyone gets the same VIP program

you can cash out fine, by bank wire, not sure where you read that. no issues/red flags at all with cashing out to your thai bank

Also in reference to your Q on the other thread about condo prices, I know of a couple of people that live in this block in Patts, its pretty cheap.

http://pattayacondo.dokbua.com/

Pooter will give u better advice on properties there though as he lived there for a long time.

"Is there an internet cafe in the complex? Yes, there are at this time at least 3 internet cafe's in the complex."

Would this be sufficient for grinding? I mean is the wireless reliable there. I can handle 1-2 brief disconnections/day but more than that......

Think internet is in the room too mate. Dunno about reliability the people living there were not poker players so there isn't much point me asking them either.

You deffo want to be testing internet connections before committing to somewhere imo if its that important.

There are always apartments for rent in that complex, they are of varying quality so you need to check the place out in person really.

There are loads of good studio apts in patts for no more than 10k, best to get there and look around.

you know if the wifi would be good enough for online?

also are brownouts as common in thailand as in PI?

hehe just saw that u answered it above

one of the things i really like about that place is that you can do a 1 month lease first, it will cost you a little more, but that way you can check it out and make sure that its worth committing to

i really am dreading finding a place that looks nice, signing a 6 month lease, and then 2 nights in realize its not a good place to live for any of a number of reasons

oh and happy 420th post me!!!!!!!!

Ya thanks, I actually meant to quote the part about the 500/month in room internet.

Someone was telling me its much more to live in BKK. Like 700-1kusd/month for a small 55 sq m 1 bdrm and 160usd/month for electricity/internet. Like 2k/month total including food and 3-4k/month if you go out 3-4 nights/week.

I think I might be better off starting in Pattaya since I'm a newb to Thailand and would prob have a great time there just the same for 1/2 the price? Then if I get bored I could invest more money and move to BKK.

you gotta be bawlling outta control do spend $3-4k a month in bkk. Im looking to do bkk for like $700-800 a month. Prob go out a few times a week, but go to places that have free entry and not drink as much. etc etc

but we all have different requirements. Im happy to be in a 30sq feet room, having some quiet nights in with my book. eating cheap for like $1 etc.

^ i pay 570 usd/mo for a 56 sq m 1 bdrm, with kitchen + bathroom + balcony. pool, gym, sauna, cinema room, rooftop terrace with golf green. internet is free. 20 seconds from a skytrain station in bkk suburbs. water + elec bills $60 - $90 and i use A/C all day

year long contracts for fast internet (TOT, true etc) that i've had elsewhere were ~650 baht/mo ($20), minimal fee/free installation

Is that hard to find though or standard?

standard

the guys paying more are living in excellent locations, very central. it only takes me 20 -30 mins to get into town on skytrain tho, < $3 in a taxi to get home after it closes

if my condo was 5-6 km further down sukhumvit road it'd prob double in price

spending $3k usd/mo on going out would be possible but pretty difficult. unless you were paying for girls in some capacity and getting 2+ bottles in a club every time you went out, and going to high class restaurants

i'd need to do this kind of $250 day out 3 times/week:

- $15 for massage / sport activities in daytime
- $20 for sushi buffet food + drinks
- $60 whiskey bottle in club + mixers
- $20 another buffet/ 3 course meal + drinks
- $60 drinking more /buying drinks for girls (e.g. 12 beers/ a bottle or 2)
- $20 taxis all day across city
- $40 - $50 miscellaneous (e.g. hooker / more food / more taxis)

It probably will be in most places, but as I said above I certainly wouldn't be signing any leases until I had tested the internet properly, I'd probably get an air stick as back up too just in case.

I can't remember ever seeing a brownout in Thailand, but remember I'm only a holiday maker who goes 3-4 times a year.

If i was me I'd ask to stay for a week first and tell them if your happy after that week you will sign up for 3-6 months or whatever.

Patts is a lot cheaper than Bkk, Chiang Mai is the other decent place that's worth looking at that's cheaper too.

$700-800 a month? I think you will struggle with that in Bkk mate unless you live like a hermit.

you can easily do bkk on 1k bhat a day, but then again im not a "baller". a whole day in the sun reading a book can do me most nights. it will be interesting anyway. my max budget is like $1500 a month, but I doubt ill get close too that.

I have no doubt you can, if you had to. But pffft I'm not sure you'd be having much fun mate. I thought you were going there to party it up a bit? no?

yeah I am fo sho but not daily. But like JSP said, he spending $60 in the club getting yucky. I just have a few steve-wisers in the 7-11 or with the boys at the hostel or bar.

I was going out most nights on my last trip, i was spending appox £25 a night and this was me balling, going to go go bars n chit. thats £750 a month. This trip I want to make it last a big longer, so even if I cut it down to £20 a night (may be less, not drinking all nights). Thats appox £600, and then im also couch surfing a bit which saves me like £7 a night.

my plan is to make my money stretch. I am an amazing person to hang with, im funny as f8ck, hawt as f9ck and just an all around great guy with amazing theories and philosophies on life. A day on my own for me with my thoughts is like flopping a set only too turn a FH on a 3 flush board when you get raised OOP by a fish, who leads into you for pot on the turn 250bb deep yo

Is that just your going out budget or is that including your rent and food etc?

I was under the impression that $2k per month was guideline for living over in Thailand.

I know that low end Thai professionals earn an average of around $500 per month, but they really dont live all that well.

This is way off IMO.

I understand that there are guys that feel they need to spend this much to have fun, but I suspect they've also never tried living cheaper.

I used to live in Bangkok off just $350-$400 a month, for all my costs total. I still went out once or twice a week, and had a decent apartment in a good location in the city. Now granted my apartment was just one room and a bathroom, so I suppose a studio, but room was medium sized, in a good location in the city, and only ran me about $150 a month.

Now I don't recommend living that cheaply, but honestly I still enjoyed my life over all, still ate plenty of good food, drank plenty of good drink, had some good times, and still got laid fairly often.

When I go back there I expect to live off of about 1k USD a month, and I am sure that will be solid.

Probably something like $400-$500 for accommodation costs (including all utilities and internet,) $200 for food + phone + transportation (not including food/transportation for nights out in this figure,) and $300-$400 for going out, which probably is enough for 2 - 3 solid nights out a week (I'm a young, reasonably attractive guy, I expect that taking a girl out/buying her some drinks at the club or what not will be plenty for getting laid, shouldn't need to hire the services of professionals.)

Sounds like a good, solid, balanced enjoyable life to me.
