thanks
there are a bunch of places you can get for $150, its nothing fancy, its just a small studio(same as a hotel room) prob with a reg queen size bed and a TV. Onnut is a safe area. its still on sukumvite, but at the end of it like soi 77 i think? its mostly for thai ppl who works on sukumvite and want to live at a cheaper place, u wont find any tourist there. its only about a 15min taxi ride or 3 bts stops to the main area of sukumvite

Strangely enough earlier this week I thought about asking if tsunami risk were at all existent or if the 2004 one was just an outlier. Is that something ou should take into consideration when choosing a location on phuket island (west/east) etc?

Very accessible in Phuket. I read that the 2004 waves came as far as 1km inland and Phuket is 20k x 50k, and mostly mountainous.

Looks like a lot of people gathered at Central:

is it gonna be a major issue if my stay lasts 98 days and my visa will probably be a 90 day one?

I think they might have closed.

many restaurants, tescos, tops, villamarket (or the hole homepro village in chalong and even some 7/11s and supercheaps closed even though they were not in the danger zone.

was difficult to find food after 7pm and i was so hungry from running up the hills

they opened the airport last night already (originally the news said they would open it 8am today). i guess there might be some delays and some extra people walking around but it's not like it's the highest of the high season anymore so you should be fine

and nothing wrong with phuket except people wanting to stay in 77th floor of every hotel because they don't know how tsunamis work

only you can decide if you think it's worth going though

Anyplace between Onnut and Asoke is pretty good(anything too close to Nana is not so good, it's teeming with African drug dealers and stinky Indians) Have a look at the bts website to get more info

What would this be like with regards to location: http://phuketrenthouse.com/3042/nai-...ooms-furnished

I looked on google maps/streetview and I can't actually find the property or others like it, so I guess it must be fairly new. It looks like there are a lot of new properties in that particular area, does anyone know much about it? Anyone live around there? Would Villa Market be the local supermarket? Any good bars/restaurants very close? Thoughts on price for that place? I'm going to enquire about getting it for just a couple of months.

Location seems pretty good (although I havent been there to look so there might be construction nearby/other issues you cant see from pictures). You will be less than 5 minutes from the beach and about the same distance to nightclub/bars that 2p2ers frequent regularly. Villa Market is about 15mins away but there is a small Tesco Lotus right around the corner.

I lived there for a few months. Location is ok, not far from anything but there is almost no restaurant or bars very close.
The houses are decent but it gets very hot inside due to large window surfaces and no shade (poor architectural choices imo), you're gonna have to use aircon a lot. Also you will be only a couple meters away from your neighbours.
Price is ok but you can find slightly better deals driving around looking for house for rent signs.
They seem to be building a few new houses in the resort, it could be very noisy.

Anyway you need to visit before committing to anything. You'll find this "mooban" there 7°48'10.09"N 98°19'49.04"E

i lived 2 years in that complex in 2 different houses similar in the one in that picture

the houses are nice in general but the owners are super scummy and the houses have a lot of problems especially with leaking roofs, bad pipes etc. if you find a problem you are waiting a long time for a fix

also there is construction which creates noise

if you asked me i would look elsewhere. not worth the trouble.

edit to add: and if someone is interested in more details why i still stayed 2 years in that place PM or ask here. i can explain later when i have more time

Thanks Lessu, Yop and Mmerli. Sounds like while the places are nice, there are a lot of downsides which detract from the appeal. Interesting that the actual location of the place is very different to what's shown on the listing too.

Does anyone have any suggestions/advice for places in/near Nai Harn that would facilitate a 2 month stay?

Ideally something like Kata Ocean View Condo's, but in Nai Harn...e.g. 2 bedrooms + communal pool or something? For less than 50kthb/month
