How long are you going to stay here?

The bolded part, you mean its far away from Phuket Town? Unless you got a teenage daughter who needs to be in the immediate vicinity of several shopping malls, staying close to Phuket town shouldnt be necessary
Allt eh smale towns, like the ones you mention, have shopr, restaurants etc anc can provide you with everything you need on a day to day basis.

Punna is condo only? Found some like:
http://chiangmaiproperties.co.th/con...emin/C732.aspx

Not really sure if that is what I am looking for. Prefer something smaller with nicer office chair.

Might aswell post it here
That's suprising, whenever I've dealt with the Kantary they have way more professional than the standard in Thailand (which isnt hard, though).

How long are you wanting to stay for? Are you looking for a serviced apartment you can rent month to month or week to week, or are you looking to rent a condo for 6 months+? If you're looking to stay 6 months+ just buy a nice office chair.

If you want something smaller at Punna then there are these options:

http://www.chiangmaiproperties.co.th...emin/C715.aspx

http://www.chiangmaiproperties.co.th...emin/C941.aspx

You'll need to rent for 6 months+ though.

If you are looking to rent on a month to month basis then you could check out the Furama hotel (http://www.furama.com/chiangmai/). For 30k a month you can get a really nice 1 bedroom apartment with all bills included and internet already installed. The location is perfect for you and it has 2 swimming pools, gym, sauna etc. I lived there before and it's pretty nice

Another serviced apartment worth considering is the Grand Napat. The location is still great imo, only a few mins from Nimman Road and more centrally located for the rest of Chiang Mai, but it might be too far away from Doi Suthep for your liking. The 1 bedroom suite is awesome though, but fairly expensive for CM standards. The pool and gym are great also.

You are supposed to have one to get in, the chances are they won't check but I know its happened to the odd person. Maybe just buy a cheap air asia flight to Phnom Penh and don't use it to cover your arse?

the question is will the airline let you board the plane back in Australia without an outgoing ticket from Thailand or a visa. If they let you board then you will be fine with immigration here in Thailand.

There is no way of making sure beforehand so at least be prepared to buy a ticket at the airport back home in case you are asked for it there

Last time i left to go from Perth to BKK they wouldn't let me board without an outgoing ticket even though i livein Thailand and had an expired O visa in my passport (expired a month prior or something). I was travelling there on a 30 day on arrival tourist visa and going to get an education visa but they made me go book an outgoing ticket anyway.

+1 to Lessu - just buy one online at the airport if you need to

I've never had a problem leaving Australia with a 1 way ticket or entering Thailand with one. The only reason you need a return ticket is if you want to apply for the 3-month tourist visa. I usually fly with Air Asia, not sure which airline asked you to see the return ticket.

well none from australia, only flew out from there once and with a visa. dunno if the check-in/boarding gate staff that handled that thai airways flight checked for a visa. airasia has never checked anywhere

but jimmyhat1000 just posted that he was asked for a ticket from perth to bkk

finnair asked some guy when boarding a flight from hel to bkk. he was pulled aside, didnt see if he had to go buy a ticket or if he talked himself out of the situation

and if you need a return ticket for a tourist visa then that depends on the embassy/consulate and how strict they want to be. i have applied for a tourist visa in helsinki (only flights entering thailand asked for each entry) and in hull, vientiane and phnom penh (no flights asked at all). and for the non-immigrant visa that i applied for in perth i only had a one way out of australia back to thailand but they didnt seem to care either

Which aircard or USB stick is the best option concerning Internet stability in the area from Naklua to Jomtien in Pattaya?
Hutch or True?

And which one is good as backup?

Also, which landline is the most stable?

Thanks!

If asked, I usually just say that I will be leaving Thailand by land. But the consulate in Brisbane wouldn't issue me a visa without a return ticket (had to mail all my documents to Brisbane because they closed the Consulate in Perth last year).

i havent heard of anyone getting asked for proof of outgoing ticket once arriving in thailand but leaving australia there is a good chance you will. i flew brisbane to bangkok with thai airways and got asked to show proof of outgoing ticket. i didnt have one so had to get my laptop out and book bangkok to ho chi minh in the airport and show the girl i had booked it. there were a few others that had to borrow my laptop and do the same.

book the cheapest flight you can find if your not planning on leaving and write off the money, or alternatively book one for somewhere you would enjoy to go and treat it as a few day holiday. im not sure if you could just book a cheap train ticket to malaysia and use that as proof of onward travel but a flight bangkok to ho chi minh will only cost around $50 with air asia so its not a great deal of money to lose.

If you ever need some good beef in Bangkok, try the grocery store at the bottom of Central Department Store(Chitlom). Great friendly farang guy who knows his stuff cutting it however you like it, bought some wonderful grass fed australian angus.

Quote:
"Grain-fed beef can have an omega 6:3 ratio higher than 20:1"-- J. Anim. Sci. 2000. 78:2849-2855

This well exceeds the 4:1 ratio where health problems begin to show up because of the essential fat imbalance. Grain-fed beef can also have over 50% of the total fat as the far less healthy saturated fat.

Grass-fed beef has an omega 6:3 ratio of 0.16 to 1.

This is the ratio science suggests is ideal for our diet.

hi!

I just found a really nice place to stay in Phuket. But the location is ''Rawai Beach''', I havent read much about that particular location in this thread so far.

Is Rawai beach similar to places such a Patong etc?

Thank for your help!

Lots players live in Rawai.
Completely different than Patong.
The best place to long-term living in Phuket imo.

I don't remember seeing this posted anywhere so I thought I'd share some recent experiences and tips from the BKK airport.

The new rail line is fantastic. The direct route takes you from the airport to the Saphan Thai (sp?) Skytrain station in 17 minutes. Very modern and nice. It is faster than taking a taxi from the airport plus you can save a few bucks by hopping into one of the cabs waiting there instead of getting one at the airport. It costs 90 baht but you can also pay 45 baht to take a train on the same route that makes a handful of stops.

If you have a layover or just time to kill before your flight, you can check your bags for 100 baht each on the floor that has the tourist information booth. You can then take the new train into the city and transfer to the skytrain (or get a cab) to go get a soapy, go shopping, watch a movie, etc.

If this doesn't appeal to you, you can go with the trusted "drink cheap beers from 7-11 until it's time to check in" strategy. I'd suggest alternating between Family Mart and 7-11 so that no one else realizes how ****faced you're getting. If you do get called on this, remember to blame jet lag or "travel long time." Never mention the 11 beers you just drank. Also keep in mind the tourist police will not let you ride their Segways no matter how friendly or persistent you are.

Haven't seen this mentioned but a friend mentioned the other day that there are recommended vaccinations I should get before going.

Is it really necessary? I'm still looking for an open room if anyone has or knows of a spare room

Yes you should get them, there are some diseases that are easy to catch that you can pretty much eliminate from getting by having the vaccination, not getting them is pretty foolish imo.

Speak to your Doc at home but as a min you should get typhoid and hepatitis A, if your planning on dabbling with the local girls you should also get hepatitis B.

Get hep B, even if you dont plan on dabbling with women, coz it will probably happen anyway unless youre a eunuch

Yeah, I finally understood it, I must have been slow

Looks like a cool place, I have contacted them but it's almost the same as Empire. Will probably stay by the day for a week or two, not really that price sensitive and all the monthly rentals seems so empty inside and I like the freedom, also I will need to do a VISA run in less than a month so if I decide to go to phuket or whatever in 2 week the loss of not staying a month is not that bad. How is the weather up there now, nice and cool or already too hot?
