Thailand and Australia are a fair bit different.
Thailand: Cheap, liberal , hot chicks, good fun.
Australia: Expensive, Nanny State, Fat Chicks, Pubs shut at 12 and shops at 5.
Choose wisely.

my post was about getting thai driver's license. rutang posted about changing a bike in thai's name to his own name when he is here only on a tourist visa.
my post about getting the thai license
rutang's post about changing the bike's ownership
You should probably get some thai to help you translate when you go buy the bike. even some bargirl with ok english is good enough, just make sure the bike doesn't end up in her name

why bother? if you're set on getting a 9-5 and a regular life, why give yourself a taste of the liberty you'll be missing for the rest of your days? I'd suggest working hard, saving for retirement, then come over here at about age 60, and then instead of knowing your whole, miserable, slave-like existence what life could be like if you were awesome enough to grab it by the horns... you can just wish you had moved here as a young man when you're old and bitter about everything anyway.

how about i just buy it and pay the old bill a few hundred if i get pulled!?! or get girl i "trust" to buy and she puts me on insurance, renting 6 months gonna cost 21,000 and the bikes only 10,000 to buy. so even if she stitches me and keeps it at the end i still save 11,000! a bar owner (ex B.G.) ive been chatting with seemed to think it was possible, but i didnt push her on details as even though shes fun and friendly, i wouldnt trust her futher than i could throw her, and shes no waif.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!
Would appreciate any advise/suggestions regarding finding a nice place to stay in BKK November 18th thru 24th.
I've been in BKK dozens of times, but I always stay on/near Khao San Road. This trip I'm interested in finding somewhere else to stay, but it needs to be convenient to where I need to be during the day.
I go to BKK to buy silver jewelry, so each day I work for 10:00AM to 6PM. I'll prob. spend two days buying on Khao San, 2-3 days buying a shops along New Road (the area where the Oriental & Shangri La Hotels are located), and one day at some shops near Zen World Trade Center. Sundays I usually go to the Weekend Market.
I usually pay about around 500-800 baht/night for a nice (by Khao San standards . . .) room w/ aircon, TV, hotwater shower, etc.
Any websites or names you can give me for hotels / guesthouses in my price range would be greatly appreciated!
Also, where IYO is the most centrally located area for me to stay?
Finally, my nights are free, would def. be interested in meeting any 2+2ers livng in BKK.

IDK what kind of bike you figure to score for 10k baht, but whatever it is, it won't be close to as good as a bike you pay 21k to rent for six months.
brand new these bikes go for 40-60k and a good bike will be around 20-35k used, with only cheaper models in the lower part of that range

it was nothing special but reasonable condition little twist and go, its prob 8 years old, from a guy running one of those little bike repair places. he had a step through for 5,000 this was a bit tatty though.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!
In your opinion:
What are the three best Thai restaurants in Bangkok?
What are the three best seafood restaurants in Bangkok?
What are the three best sushi restaurats in Bangkok?
I am going to be in Bangkok Nov. 19th-24th. I'll be working all day but want to eat the best food that Bangkok has to offer at night. Any & all advice and suggestions greatly appreciated, anyone want to join me send PM.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!
I just bought my CDMA EC226 this morning in chiang mai, and I definitely recommend it, thanks to the posters who suggested this to me!
No problem for poker (on pacific/888 network which says a lot!) and i'm downloading stuff on usenet at 200~300 ko/s.

Oh and for poster above try the semi open seafood restaurant directly under chong nonsi BTS station, it's not fancy, but they sure know how to cook!
