I'd install my own wifi then break the contract (12mos) and pay the ~$60 cancellation fee

In a condo you can install your own, in an apartment that has it's own wifi sometimes they won't let you, or will if you pay them some additional small $30-$60 fee.

An apartment is a short term contract place where all rooms are owned by the building and you pay the electricity/water/internet to them, at a higher rate.

In a condo each room has a different owner and you pay utilities directly to the power company in 7/11, at a lower rate, and set up and pay your own internet. Longer contract wanted.

But 6 months should be doable in a condo. So I'd go for that and install my own wifi (free setup, then cancellation fee). Apartment wifi is shared with the whole floor you're living on, so it's way slower.

Or just find a condo for short term via Airbnb, that has private wifi. Would be a bit more expensive rent but no deposit and the internet included in the cost, already set up.

Thank you jspill!

I remember reading your name in some other posts and articles I have read during my research the last few days, thank you for helping out!

I will decide what condo to take when I get there, so I can see them and probably might be getting better deals then through the internet.

For this jomtien area I have looked at this site to get a basic idea of what to expect in terms of condo's.

http://www.expat-condos.com/index.html

Are there any sites you know of that might be worth it to look at before traveling there?
What would be the best way to go about this... once I move?
just travel there, set myself up in a hotel for a few days and 'visit' these condo's 1 by 1 ?

In Pattaya, besides Lucifer and iBar/Insomnia, where do you like to go?

I had fun at some pool bar near Central....there was like 20 different pool bars all connected but found 1 that was chill & not any pressure from the girls. Gambled on tic-tac-toe and some dice game for drinks with a couple girls.

I don't understand the pool rules in Pattaya. They play different than in the US.

Also alot cheaper apparently then Phuket (where I already have spent a couple of holidays).

I have found several nice condo's I can rent at I think reasonable prices.
Some do have wifi access for free, some have it for a fixed fee, and for some it isn't mentioned.

Suppose there is no wifi or the wifi is lousy...

What options for having decent internet do I have? I need to be able to offcourse grind properly, but I also need to be able to have decent video' conferences with my coach etc...

What would you guys suggest?
Are there decent mobile solutions?
Is it possible (and allowed in those condo's) to get your own internet?
Especially since I'm staying only a few months?
Duvel - I'd suggest using your phone as a hotspot. These days you can get unlimited 4Mbps connection for 700 baht ($25ish) per month. It is good enough to stream youtube videos, movies etc and obviously grind.

I use it with one teeny tiny problem, it does disconnect once every few hours for a few seconds at a time. What happens is any hand where I have already put money in the pot the disconnect protection (on pokerstars) is long enough so by the time the connection comes back I can finish playing the hand, this also applies to hands in the blinds (they don't get folded / wasted). The downside is any hand I have not yet put any money in the pot gets folded. So the worst that happens is once every few hours a preflop hand gets auto folded, no big deal.

Anyway it's definitely easier and far less hassle than dealing with an internet company, just go to a shopping center and find a phone carrier (I use DTAC) and they can set it up for you on the spot, no contracts or anything.

What's the best way to cashout from Pokerstars to Thailand these days?

Stars to Neteller to Thai bank?

Does anyone use Bitcoin at any point in the process? Like Pokerstars to Neteller to Bitcoin and then sell their bitcoins for cash in Thailand?

Hey, spending 2 months in BKK and going to try get an airbnb for the period.
Can someone recommend me the best part of BKK to try get a condo?
Good foot spots, gym, close to metro are prob mos important factors.

Tx... this seems like a good idea if I'm in a place that has WIFI (even if it might be a bit slow), to use it to strengthen my connection and speed it up ... good idea, thanks!

Actually a guy staying there told me it's nice there.
Beaches are nice and clean, Pattaya is very closeby if you wish that but you are in a calm environment for grinding or not really minding the stuff you mentioned...

BTW .. if yo uwant cheap and dirty sex.. I guess it's everywhere if you really want it ^^

BKK I don't like... it's a personal preference not to go there
CM - the bad season for CM starts soon, where a dark cloud of polluted air is hovering the city for months - don't want to be in that mess
Phuket - I've visited the Island a few times before - it is an option, but basically it seems just more expensive (thai terms) than other area's
Why Jomtien? - as mentioned above...

I definitely want a place on or close by the beach, I don't want to be in the middle of a city .. I need a nice window view to refresh and rest my brain when I take my 10 minute breaks and just relax a bit ...

any suggestions for this kind of place that I can also consider?

Anyone here that I can get in touch with on skype or so regarding info about condo renting in Kata/karon/patong area in phuket...

It's way harder to find decent info/condo pricings then for other regions for me it seems

I always loved my holidays in phuket/patong area... so maybe worth looking into again also

Asok, Phrom Phong, or Thong Lo. I.e. Sukhumvit Road. Those are train stations next to each other.

false, false and last one is also false as jomtien is sort of downtown pattaya

It's a really disgusting beach, the worst i have ever been to. In pats you've got to drive 25km to a decent beach and even though it's a paid beach on an army base, there's still a layer of trash on the sand.

Pattaya is aids for anything other than hookers enthusiasts or penny pinchers which does explain why you are avoiding phuket when it's exactly what you are looking for.
Mai Khao in Phuket has 10k pm condos close to the beach but you'll be 30km away from patong

Tx for pointing this out.
I definitely don't want really discusting beaches and places...
I'll just stick to what I know In the beginning and settle in in Pukhet somewhere.
I don't need to be near patong or anything...

Since you seem to know so much about all of Thailand, What area in phuket would you think to be suited for a lifestyle consisting of :
* a lot of grinding
* frequent gym visits
* easy access to a relaxing bar to have a drink and relax (no I don't mean hookers)
* decent quality condo/appt for max 15.000 initially
* possibility of clean and decent beaches to relax and walk around on (I am not the sea swimming kind of dude)
* for grinding: decent internet (unlimited DACT through cellphone someone mentioned earlier?)

I was looking at Kata,Karon,Rawai .. any advice on these? or other idea?

theses are all decent places, bang tao/cherngtaley/rawai are a bit better as they have a lot less low class Australian tourists

for 15k you will need to settle first and look around by yourself or with an agent, online is filled with bs prices

If Bargirls/hookers are of any interest then Rawai, if not then still Rawai but you can look into Surin, Bang tao, Kamala or Kata
