hm you should see some other places in thailand next time, those those two are my least favorite places ive been in thailand, pattaya for the obvious reasons, koh chang was decent but still my least favorite island(island was too packed, so might be better in low season)

If you do not dress too much like a german tourist looking in awe it's better usually ( except for those annoying midgets on soi 7/8 ). If you say "mai ow krab" they are going to annoy you more ( krab=lonely planet ) and you don't need to be polite with the buggers ( mai ow is enough add a few pai pai to get rid of kids ).

Obvious reasons? hum... you were with your girlfriend? You had no idea were to go or what do to so you ended up walking aimlessly on walking street? you do not like hookers, scuba diving, submarine trip, bungee jumping, 20bahts trip to the islands ( white sand,blue sea), more restaurant than you'll ever need for cheaper than anywhere in thailand, high speed boat racing, cabaret shows ( best in thailand imo ), massages on the beach, making fun of fat english/german guys, tiger zoo, deep sea fishing, smoking a chica on a white sofa in a nightclub, bowl in the only bowling hall fit for international competitions in thailand, eat fresh seafood on a boat with a view of the city lights, karting,the biggest stone carved buddha in thailand ect,ect...

Or maybe you have no idea what pattaya as to offer and imagine that it's the number 1 thai holiday destination for thai people because of the hookers on walking street only.

Wasnt pattaya only for sextourists and the rest happens to be there so they arent getting bored? Honestly I dont know any german fellow players who live in thailand except 2 who are above their 40s or at least look so and both live/lived in pattaya... I havent read anything good about pattaya yet in here thats why ive never been there but from your post im quite inclined now to give it a shot.

i know you take it personally couse you live there but whatever. the beach was the worst ive been to in thailand, all the other activities you mention can be done alot of other places, except maybe your nightlife favorites. oh and the insane amount of russian tourists didnt help either.

It's just funny to see people ( not only you ) who just dismiss the place because they spent two nights on walking street and don't know the city at all.

Pattaya beach is awful, that's why I mentioned the 20bahts boat ride to the islands with thin white sand and blue transparent sea.

Lots of activities can be done elsewhere that's true, Clearly not all. Oh and one can say that about just every city in the world so that's pointless.

Also if you are racist against russian people I can't help you with that. You probably know them as well as you know pattaya.

Lots of bangkok expats ( men and women ) enjoy pattaya, tons of thais go to pattaya every week end. Judging the city because you spent two nights in the hooker zone can't be serious.

You remind of the guys who spend 2 nights in nana-plaza and conclude: "bangkok is ugly, polluted and full of hookers".

I did the same mistake about hua hin because I spent two nights in the tourist ghetto and didn't know the city. Talked to friends who love the place and I realized I missed a lot.

I think the main problem with pattaya is that there is no indication in guide such as lonely planet and a lot of tourist just get trapped in the hooker main zone without seeing any part of the city except walking street.

Of course to each his own, so my recommendation if you are a backpacking hippy is to simply avoid bangkok and pattaya and go straight to the south and chiang mai.

BTW the hooker selection is better in Bangkok imo.

Discussion I was having recently: How many of the idiots who send girls 5k baht every month actually think they're the sly ones. What I mean is thinking something like, I only have to send this girl $150/month and she just sits in her village waiting for me while I can screw anyone I want in my country.

Well most guys don't know I agree. Why would you send money to a girl if you know what happens when you are not there?

The minimum is probably around 10k, I have a few colleagues with a "live-in professional girlfriend" they give them between 6 and 10k plus accomodation, food and occasional shopping.

You always pay one way or another in Thailand that's simply the local way. Most "educated good girls" are actually more expensive then live-in hookers ( I know I have one and same opinion from friends/colleagues ).

The scariest part is the sin-sod ( the money you give for marriage ) it's around 100k for a hooker/farmer and an easy 1 million for a uni-educated proper thai girl.

Also conversing with thai guys, you realize that if a girl love their money more then them it's alright : They consider their money to be a part of them, kind like a "love my money-love me" idea.
That's for educated reasonably well-off thai guys. They also consider that if they have enough money to take care of two girls, wife and mia-noi, it's their absolute right to do it.

They still think a peniless guy taken care of by a rich woman is a lucky-mothershagger.
