Do you just need to cross the border or do you need to go to a Thai consulate? If you're just crossing the border, you're spending maybe 20 minutes in the other country so it doesn't really matter where you go.

Vientiane is 5-6k baht round-trip flight from Bangkok and is awesome. There's also a sleeper train but the flight is only about an hour.

I plan to hit the santika ( but it's very thai ) RCA is a popular choice, and there is a special party with some DJs from europe at the Qbar soi 11 tonight.

But on friday every nightclub in bangkok is booming so should not be to hard to find a place.
