Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Actually it would be pretty nuts if it happened before you went through immigration. Is this what you were asking?

yeah I guess I'm just wondering how you would handle the worst case scenario in a foreign country before you got settled down.

You should have made photocopies of your passport and store in carry on luggage and in your main backpack, leave some money with some one you trust at home and then get money wired through western union if you lose your bank cards. that will give enough breathing space to replace all the missing items

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Koh Tao stay at Bans if they want to do diving (Koh Tao is best diving spot in Thailand, one of the best in SE Asia) or want to be near the action.

New Heaven Bungalow (not New Heaven Resort/Dive School) is awesome if they want quiet. It's on the other side of the island, every room has a great ocean view. Real cool place. 15 minute motorbike ride from nightlife though.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Would I be good to go if I just fly into Chiang Mai without any plans at all? I've never been to Thailand before.

Ban's is nice, did my openwater there but it's far from the best diving in Thailand.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Ok. I'm not a diver I just did a two day discovery there - but I've heard Koh Tao mentioned many times as the best in Thailand in print and via word of mouth. It certainly has the highest concentration of diving schools heh

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

A very specific question:

What is the cheapest hotel in Bangkok, Phuket or CM that has a jacuzzi in the room or alternatively a jacuzzi you can use? Jacuzzi in room is preferable for somewhat obvious reasons.

Only reasonable thing I found so far is a hotel in Bangkok that has some good deals with priceline if you're lucky.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Two questions:

1. I am thinking of just staying in 1 place (with a few daytrips) for a month to relax from traveling a bit and want to grind a bit of poker as well. Any houses that have a room free for 1 month (probably between 10th february - 10 march) or any other suggestions? Checked out the kata beach houses, but they are pretty expensive 69000 for a month. And is it possible to do some muay thai training just for one month?
2. What is your favorite island to go to with a girlfriend if you basically want to relax and stay in a hotel at the price range of <$150 a day. I'm thinking ko prah thong, ko samet, ko kradan or ko phi phi now, but would like some advice from insiders. Not looking to party hard or anything just a couple of bars and the beach will do. Not too many tourists is a bonus.

On really crappy internet here so couldn't browse all 416 pages, sorry for probably asking the same question twice.

true that, it's like certificate factory. but great fun for backpackers and honeymooners but the best diving is aroud similan and the best fundives are from koh lanta imo. but the dives there can be a bit harder so for padi ow koh tao is better.

if you want really really good diving fly to borneo, stay at mabul and dive at sipadan. about the same amounts of hours and baht to get there as to get from bangkok->tao if bus isn't an alternative and the diving is amazing...
