how big of a deal is it not being able to speak english?

im guessing that pattaya would be the easiest to transition to, and that the most english is spoken there

would bangkok be next and then chiang mei would be the worst?

is it even understood at all over there?

im sick of being "live" every day since black friday anyways and need a break from talking to people so no big deal, just wondering how big a deal it is to others

you can easily get by in chiang mai as most people in shops, restaurants, banks etc speak at least a little english.

If you want to stay for any length of time you will need a proper visa though so i guess you will have to join a thai language school. My thai is not great but even being able to speak basic conversation is a big bonus.

live in chiang mai or bangkok or wherever else and go to pattaya to party for a weekend imo. chiang mai is an excellent place to live. Normal city life which has a bit of everything(appart from beach)

You can be totally fine here in any of the popular places, BKK, Phuket, Samui, CM in my experience knowing very little Thai (obviously should learn a couple standard greetings, hello, thank you, where is the toilet etc before visiting any country). Most vendors, staff etc usually have a basic level of understanding or at the very least know the words related to their industry, i.e. if it's a restaurant they know what you mean when you order in English and they know how to say the prices in English also.

As mentioned though before ITT, learning the language will be a huge aid in shipping quality girls, gaining favour with Thais and just provide a much better experience overall. My Thai still sucks fwiw but it still makes a big difference imo even just being able to put a few broken sentences together. If you are planning on staying here longterm I would definitely make the effort. Even if you are just staying here short term nobody ever comes here just once anyways.

LOL, I honestly don't know but I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say 99.9%% no chance of that. Even English is a challenge for them.

I don't think its too big of a deal not knowing Thai. I use Google Images on my mobile quite often at Tesco Lotus when I can't find something..

lets just agree its not hard to pull girls in Thailand unless your totally socially awkward.
That is exactly what I was trying to get at. And no, you don't really have to pay, either (if you don't want to). If you're making a decent hourly rate at poker and simply want effortless, casual sex with strangers... then paying is probably still the "cheapest" way of going about it when you think about opportunity cost.

Thought I'd make a long post about some random condos around On Nut <10 mins from the skytrain.

Background - On Nut is quite a popular area to live in (read any internet messageboard) because it's cheap, less hectic, with a quiet, friendly suburban feel while still being fairly central and connected. Non-jaded locals, a lot of good street food/thai-style restaurants, and a popular large outdoor night market with bargain clothes, varied food (sushi/steak/fresh smoothies etc.), laid back bars, and live music. A good mix of expats and Thais, and it's rare to see hookers/drunk people/seediness so it's a nice place to come back home too after going out.

It also has modern amenities, 2 large supermarkets, shopping centres, bars, western food, massage joints etc., and is connected to the skytrain (BTS) on which it takes 25 mins to get to more touristy areas (Nana/Asok) where the nightclubs, red light districts etc. are. On Nut stretches quite far, but the immediate area near Sukhumvit road and the skytrain is the best spot. Other popular areas (nicer and more expensive) closer to downtown Sukhumvit are Ekkamai and Thonglor, a couple BTS stops down from On Nut.

1. Your Space Apartment
No website. Made a vid of this one for a friend, see info in description - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PawH-IFplQ. Also their flyer - http://i.imgur.com/coHfv.jpg

2. KV Mansion
http://kvmansion.com/index.html Right next to (1), better studio rooms for both the quality and price, but worse 2 bdrm options. Better furniture and facilities but reception less friendly/worse english. Think women would quite like this place. Prices flyer - http://i.imgur.com/rY26l.jpg. There were 5+ condos on this soi (81), all close together. 7/11 and restaurants nearby.

3. The Link Condo Sukhumvit 50
No website afaik. Haven't been to this one, but knew a girl paying 14k for a studio there. Quite upmarket, search google images for pictures. Has pool + gym, is on soi 50, walking distance from BTS

4. The Verve
http://www.ideocondo.com/2008/Verve/...r_Gallery.html Looks impressive, closest to BTS, right next to it and the night markets, so a great location. Pool and gym. But the rooms are overpriced imo, 18k for ~30 sq m which is pretty small. That's studio size normally but at the Verve it's a 1 bdrm so it's just a cramped small bedroom and lounge. Have to pay extra for each component in room. 20k for 35 sq m.

5. PP Mansion
http://www.pp-mansions.com/ For those that want a cheaper option. Room is clean and basic. I went to PP2, apparently PP1 is on soi 81 but I couldn't find it. PP2 is all 6.5k studios. Forgot to ask about internet. Reception don't speak much English. Laundry on site. Good value, and they are fine with 1 month stays. 8 mins walk to BTS. PP2 is right next to Best Beef, an awesome meat buffet restaurant, $7 all you can eat. PP1 has 4.5k rooms but will be tiny

6. UCE Place
http://uceplace.com/
Saw signs for it while walking down soi 81, clearly marked, quite a long walk down some nice quiet backstreets, more than 10 mins but you can take a motorbike for 10 baht 24 hrs a day, they queue up near the BTS. Amazingly cheap, the most expensive room is 6.5k/mo or 5.9k if you commit to a long stay, and was quite large. Took a video, quite a big studio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W2LBTA8Jf8. Small rooms ~4.8k

7. Diamond
No website afaik. Similar to the Verve, bit too expensive imo, 18k for 35 sq m 1 bdrm, feels cramped. Pool. Gym not open til 2013. Spoke good English. Coffee shop. 5 mins walk to BTS. Window view is stunning, rooms are very high up, has 30 floors.
quoted again. I also got actual pics of PP mansion below. a friend of mine has taken some of an actual apartment in use. So im more then just a pretty face in this thread

I think she said this room was 6k bhat month

I'm sorry but it would be depressing as **** to spend 16 hours a day in a place like this. Most of the people from this thread 'work' from home, so I think you will much happier if you spend a little more on a nicer place.

indeed, but im not going to grind 16hours a day, but like we have gone over 100000 million times, we all have different needs, if I was grinding 15hrs a day, I would want something a lot better. But to just rest my head and shower, its perfect for £120~

it's a hassle yeah, you have to send in photo of utility bill, ID, and bank card, front and back, but once you do they can unlock your account in 1- 2 hrs, the helpdesk support is pretty fast

I am little rusty on visa regs right now, specifically with regards to the Ed visa. However if you are looking to use the ed visa as means of staying long term its better to study anything other than Thai as the last i heard they were giving thai test when applying for the ed visa extensions so unless you're gonna go balls out to learn it take a safer option and learn something else. but ima bit outta touch now days so i could be way off. imo

yeah i just got my account authorized and i tried to throw some money on the entropay virtual visa and it said transaction declined. I sent them a help desk ticket. Im using KTB banking and im not sure if the visa card they gave me can be used on the internet? Anyone familiar with KTB banking or is there anything else i can do? Or would it be easier to just find someone to transfer me money and give them THB in return?
