So I'm deciding were to live on koh samui as I understand it chaweng is hipper and got more things going on and lamai is more laid back. Is it true that the older crowd live in lamai while chaweng caters to more of a younger crowd? You have any info on ages? I don't want to live in lamai if they're all retired.

Next up is cost: I read that chaweng is actually more expensive than lamai, how true is this in terms of lodging, food and nightlife? I assume the supermarkets will be priced the same.

Massage places with happy endings? I assume both places have a ton of these places? What about regular massages I assume both have plenty?

Freelancers: I assume both have plenty? I read that thailand has part-time freelancers that work daytime jobs but still are available for some fun, is this true for koh samui too?

Then just regular thai girls: Which place is better lamai or chaweng? If I were to day game, like waitresses, supermarkets, bars etc etc, I guess both have plenty of options?

Also beaches: Which place do you rate for the better beach(es)?

Thanks guys! Lets ****ing go, can't wait!!!

There are no ATMs airside in between getting off the plane and passport control. Only currency exchange.

I've read you can find some elevator in Suvarnabhumi if you walk past the turning to passport control, and go up a floor and there's an ATM but I haven't tried it. Sounds dubious.

Also if you are denied entry, you can't just go look for an ATM. You are pulled aside and put in a detention cell. Sometimes they will not escort you to an ATM at any point in the process. Many reports of people having the deportation paperwork filled out in Thai and when they say hey, can I go to an ATM they are refused and told it's too late. Made to pay for a flight home, pay for the detention room (700 baht/day) and they sit in there until their flight. That happened to one guy.

But one other guy was escorted to an ATM, and pulled out the cash and got let in, so as with anything in Thailand it's totally random.

Best bet is to just withdraw 20k before you fly somewhere, stash it in bag, and pull it out when you fly back. There are reports of them accepting any form of currency that be converted in Thailand, or travellers cheques, and other reports of them not wanting to know unless it's Thai Baht in cash. So to be safe stick with Baht.

The other day a poker guy who was deported last time just got back into Thailand by using the fast lane VIP service, basically it's 1050 baht and someone greets you as you get off the plane and takes you through the fast lane. So I'd recommend that to anyone who's got a year's worth of Thailand visas in their passport. https://www.limousine.in.th/fast-track-immigration.html

1. Age - Chaweng slightly younger and Lamai slightly older, but its not as if Chaweng is all 18-30 crowd and Lamai is retirees.
2. Cost - you shouldnt notice any different on anything. Once you stay here you will know where to get value in either place.
3. Massage - load of normal and happy massages available in both areas.
4. Freelancers - more choice in Chaweng. Green Mango club is the place for most freelancers. Or of course online with Tinder and Badoo.
5. Regular girls - both
6. Beach - Lamai beach is a lot nicer and more quiet than Chaweng beach. There are 2 very nice beaches halfway between Lamai and Chaweng -
Coral Cove and Crystal Bay. However for better beaches head further out, Maenam, Bangrak, Thong Krut, Lipa Noi, Ban Tai, Bang Por.

I live in Chaweng. Chaweng is a bit of a dump, but its where my life is centered, so I stay here. But I'd advise coming here, talking a room for 1 month, then seeing which you like best. There is no right or wrong between the 2, only personal preference.

p.s. Hit me up for motorbike rental when you arrive, thats my business here

Cool mate, you're not going to charge me for imaginary scratches are you, lol jk, been reading up and seemingly those motorbike companies like to scam people for scratches and stuff.

What kind of bike do you suggest for general scooting about town, exploring the whole Island, lots of hills to climb? Will a 125cc do the trick?

Thanks for the answers, damn I still can't make my mind up on the 2. I want peace and tranquility and for that I guess I should choose Lamai over Chaweng, right?

I have Thai Elite, you can contact them direct to get it or click one of the hundreds of affiliate ads. (if you are going to click one then I recommend my buddy Stickman's). As long as you don't have a criminal record in Thailand or an Interpol warrant you should easily get it. Personally, I think Elite is the greatest. I have zero complaints.

No I dont rip people off. If I cant earn an honest baht then I will pack up and go home to the UK. However not all renters have the same morals as me, so beware. Standard bike is a Honda Click 125cc. Going rate is 150-200 baht/day, or 3000 baht/month. Or if you want something slightly larger you should look at a Honda PCX 150cc for that bit more power.

Regards Lamai of Chaweng, again, it depends on which part of which area you live in. Im in Chaweng, a few minutes from all the action, but its nice and peaceful at my house.

Yeah you can do neteller to thai bank on an ed visa, but for me it took a long time to get neteller set up. Transfer to bank also takes like 5-10business days

No one cares or is monitoring your bank transfers unless they're in the millions, you're even allowed to open a bank acct on tourist visa at some places (bangkok bank)

You're not working in the country for a thai entity

Thanks,
last question.
How do you link your bank account to neteller? I don't have thai currency choise on the list of bank account currency.
Or maybe its just because my neteller account is from europe

You have to verify a new Thai address it takes a long time like brah said. Better off using transferwise/xendpay to get money into your thai acct

No idea but someone else will tell you. I'm guessing you just get screwed on the local bank's exchange rates and fees.

I haven't find anything better so far

Just set the currency to euros. That's what they told me to do.

Is it possible to keep USD in any of the online wallets (Skrill, Neteller etc.) so you don't get screwed with currency conversions when moving money from Pokerstars -> online wallet -> Thai bank?

Also I can't see where the screwing over takes place, I would have though you could have USD all the way when moving money like this then at the thai bank they do the exchange from USD - > Thai baht but apparently this is not the case?

Yea they dont allow withdrawals to THB. So basically you have to Exchange your USD to EUR (for which neteller takes 10$+~7%), and then you pay exchange fees for EUR>THB on top of that.

Maybe the way to do it is to withdraw your USD to Neteller and then buy Bitcoin with it. You can sell bitcoin just about anywhere for cash or for a local bank transfer. Anyone doing this or see any problems with it?
