Activated 3G data drains my phone's battery in less than 2h, so I prefer using a stick, which also has more options regarding network selection etc.

they'd pronounce AIS as 'air eye et', there's no capital 'A' sound in thai, james becomes jairm, wayne rooney -> wairn loonee. and yeah they call 12-call

some english words make it into thai usage (sex, taxi, beer etc.) in that 7/11 spot they'd know '3g', 'top up', 'online', 'slip' etc. that and making a phone sign with your hand to your ear can easily get the job done

if you ask for 'online' you have to punch your phone number into their machine, if you ask 'slip' you get a slip with the code to call, which is slower

Tethering your phone charges the battery, kind of convenient.

And this is what it will lead to:

Quote:
Chief Colonel Supatee, also a Deputy Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, announced that he has reported the recent incident to his superiors and is conducting an investigation in conjunction with Chonburi Immigration.

A Police Investigation Has Now Started

Colonel Supatee indicated that this could ultimately see the Shark deported from Thailand, as he is considered by police a “Danger to Society”.
It might end with a jump from a balcony as well.

will try with the 1-2 call and see what they say. Am I looking for a new sim or a receipt with a pin number on it?
No-one takes the dongle to 7-11. you just buy credit there and take the receipt home to enter the code in the AIS software on your computer.

if your phone didnt need a different sim, you could pop that sim into your phone to add credit, subscribe to a data plan by texting the code for the appropriate plan then swap the sim to your stick and it will work.

but...easiest just to go to an AIS shop, if this is all new to you.

I mean CM actually beats out BKK for lung disease overall which would baffle you if you came to CM right now then spent a few days down in BKK around the same time.

If you like what CM has to offer I'd recommend buying one of those proper filter masks lots of people wear around march or just spend maybe 1-2 days getting the rock bottom best value on a lease set up, then get south again until April.

I'm thinking Koh Lanta for this March myself.

So the air is fine in Chiang Mai every month but March? It took four years of living in BKK for the air to start to bother me. Now I wish I wore a mask every time I was on foot. It's basically impossible to breathe in clean air anywhere in the city...even from 15 floors up you can still smell the buses/burning trash. It's hard to escape. The air might smell okay indoors, but is it?

Still love it though..and am planning to return shortly...it would just be so much better if you knew the air wasn't doing long-term lung damage. If you've ever been to the bathroom anywhere in SEA/China and heard the chorus of old dudes spitting in the urinals...that is the frightening sound of long-term lung damage.

I'm arriving in thailand in a week with a fellow grinder, we're going to phuket to rent a house for a couple of months. We've aiming at 2 bedrooms, private pool, wifi etc and hoping to find something around 40k thb / month or less. Is this possible, and how does all these things work? Who should we contact when looking for a house? And what internet is best for phuket? Where to phuket is recommended to live?

if they're going after small, discreet, happy ending massage shops it won't be long until they're going after the gogos.

i don't think the food and shopping will be enough of incentive for me to visit bangkok...

the way things are going i might not bother with bangkok after my next trip apart from an occasional 1 or 2 night stopover.

the gogos are the only thing differentiating thailand from other countries in the region in terms of nightlife.
