overland is possible but not practical if crossing somewhere like mae sot. plus you have only 10 days. you should fly into yangon or mandalay.

you can get a visa the same day in bkk if flying the next day. usually if you drop it off on a monday morning you can pick it up wednesday afternoon. i think it cost about 900 baht last time.

So glad you posted this I also believe you can never be to careful. I have even taught myself to walk everywhere backwards so that I know nobody is following me.

whats the best way to cash out from stars? Is it better to withdraw to neteller and then send it to a thai bank or just withdraw directly? Stars charges a pretty large forced currency conversion fee, but I got shafted when I used a neteller ATM (~1800 baht charge on 20,000 withdraw). Thanks.

do you mean the recent 2.5% fee http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28...rates-1484001/

I thought that it's still free to convert to EUR in the client, then bank wire cashouts in EUR to kasikorn don't incur a fee from stars

Quote:
this fee only applies to cash outs and withdrawals where there is a currency conversion as part of the cash out or withdrawal. For example, if your account balance is USD and you are withdrawing in GBP, PokerStars applies a margin. If your account balance is GBP, and you are withdrawing in GBP, PokerStars applies no margin.
Quote:
There remains no fee to transfer between currency wallets in the PokerStars client
i could be wrong

Its a 180 bath fee on every ATM not 1800. You should go check again.

yes for the withdraw from the thai bank. Including exchange rate and neteller fees it was ~18xx baht total for a 20k baht withdraw. I believe it made me exchange USD to euros again before exchanging it to baht, so a nice dance of USD->EUR->USD->EUR->THB with vig being taken at each point

so, exchange to EUR in the client and save$? sounds silly.

Note that where PokerStars has reasonable grounds to suspect that currency conversion transactions are being made for purposes other than play, we reserve the right to retroactively apply the full 1% (one percent) margin to the exchange rate.

PokerStars reserves the right to change the way exchange rates are calculated without notice.

when will all the sites start using bitcoin? so ridiculous we have to go through banks still and pay their exorbitant fees

isn't that the way everyone has been doing it for years... or to skrill but then your skrill would need to be in EUR too to avoid fx fees

using neteller / skrill cards at an ATM has never been recommended

for cashing out EUR by bank wire from stars direct to kbank the vig is about 600 - 1000 baht

doesn't happen if you're an active raking player, also you can opt to make your default currency in the client EUR...

yeah never again for neteller ATM, but I am wondering if the neteller bank wire is a better option. I have never heard of anyone changing account currency to euro prior to cashing out before, does that really save the 2% exchange fee on stars end?

it's been necessary to cashout in EUR to thailand for years... both stars and skrill tell you to do it in eur to avoid fees

Is it still possible to withdraw your stars balance at one of the macau casinos? or was it just to buy-in to their donkaments?

THB to HKD had like 10% vig in macau when I went long time ago. You'd get much better rate with USD/GBP/EUR. Could be even worth it to exchange your money into one of those currencies in thailand before you leave.

You might have to show a flight ticket out of Thailand if you want to exchange baht to another currency in Thailand.

Whatever you do, don't exchange your money at any airport anywhere. They always have A LOT worse rates than the booths in town.

unfortunately it's only possible to buy in to tournaments not cash games

go to superrich on ratchadamri.

in fact that goes for changing anything. if you want to load up on US dollars, you're still far better off changing your home currency to baht then to US dollars at superrich than other methods. i figure those places like superrich are basically money laundering operations.

meh I live in Pattaya and my flight is tomorrow already at 10 am so that won't be an option, but thanks anyway will keep that in mind if I need to exchange money again (hopefully when I return).

most likely exchanging baht->usd here and then usd->hkd in HK/macau will net you only a 2-3% loss. baht-hkd at a place other than superrich is gonna hurt

now before we start travelling around thailand and other places i would like to settle down for 2-4weeks when micromillions on pokerstars starts to crush the leaderboard and play plo.
so i need some advices for best places to do that with beach, good food, internet that works, nice accommodation and good ganja opinions?? smoking is obv most important. accommodation should be max 50dollars a night. can be higher if very good. im not sure to make a booking.co for 2weeks already and its ****ty place. and we would prefer an island.
