Stars was super stringent on me, even though I had everything they wanted, it took lots of e-mails back and forth, and this is the same thing i've heard from others.

From my first e-mailing of my documents, it took three weeks to finish the entire process. Then you have to deposit. It is a pain.

I don't know specifically about Thai bank accounts, try asking in the Thailand thread

I have been mugged once, but that was my own damn fault. Don't go into really bad neighborhoods in really poor countries, late at night, alone, and try to talk to random ppl. I got beatup, and my money stolen then they told me never to come back.

I was young and thought I could just make friends with anyone, and wanted to show the world was much safer than ppl believed. whoops on me.

San Jose Costa Rica.

Talking to random people on the street, or strangers, they are a lot more cold to you.

In the rest of S.E. Asia I have found people magnitudes warmer.

There is a big devide between ingroup (uchi) and out group (soto)

wikipedia article on uchi/soto

Also, pro tip: get a 2nd or 3rd wirlesss 3g card, it will be worth it's weight in gold when your first one goes out for a day or two.

Also, keep paper and online copies of your passport bio page, and visa entry page.

Re: Ask a pro about traveling and or living abroad

awesome thread. I've just began my journey through Asia a few weeks ago. I'm macau ATM, going to Taipei, Seoul, then se asia and should be back in vegas before the main event. I should watch my spendings more is one thing I've learned so far. I've blown through tons of cash without thinking twice.... as long as I have a buy in for the main event again I'll be happy haha
