Would love to meet some fellow poker players out in Seoul. I'll be based in Seo-cho dong but no worries with travelling as long as its within Seoul

Re: Ask A Pro about Living in Seoul, South Korea
I've decided I'll be taking a 3-month Korean course in Seoul so I can maximize my future earnings.
Planning on taking the evening class (Mon,Tues,Thur 6:50-8:40pm) at Sogang University since I'm not good at waking up early in the morning, and getting some business-specific tutoring on the side. I have to figure out when I'm gonna take it.
In terms of weather, which of these is the most pleasant option?
Mar.3 ~ May.17 (Vacation: Apr.21 ~ 22)
Jun.1 ~ Aug.18 (Vacation: Jul.25 ~ 29)
Sept.1 ~ Nov.11 (Vacation: Sep.12 ~ 13)
Any recommendations on how I should approach finding a place in the Sinchon area?

Re: Ask A Pro about Living in Seoul, South Korea
get a korean to help you figure out some officetels or something like that. There are def. soem solid places for like $900 a month
If you haven't considered a hagwon, my friend is attending a hagwon for korean language and she liked it way more than doing yonsei's kli language program

Re: Ask A Pro about Living in Seoul, South Korea
Sept - November. Autumn is the best season in Seoul hands down. Plus you'll get to be around for Chuseok where Seoul is freaking empty. It's like the first 15 minutes of 28 days later.
There were some fairly nice residences in Mapo-gu, I partied in a few of them, that might be a little cheaper than Sinchon and it's only like 5 minutes away by bus.
One of my buddies took a month off work and did the Yonsei program. He said he was mostly in class with Japanese chicks and he got more out of his private tutor than that program fwiw. GL.

Re: Ask A Pro about Living in Seoul, South Korea
yeah
I would def. do the yonsei program for networking if you were to live out there for a year or two and then go to a hagwon
lolol @ the chuseok comment. So true, shinchon is a busy ass section and I walked around there because I needed to find a place to eat on Chuseok and it was like a ghost town.

Hey everyone, I'm in Seoul, Shinchoen for about a month. I'm staying here with some family (i'm korean-american and can speak enough to get by) If there's any 2p2er's in the area that want to meet up, send me a PM.

Re: Ask A Pro about Living in Seoul, South Korea
What's up guys? I'm heading out there in February for a year to teach English. I'll be staying in Anyang (which is apparently 20-30 minutes south of Seoul on public transit).
Hopefully we can get some Walker Hill meet-ups going. Hope to play a lot out there.
Just curious, but any of you Seoul veterans ever venture into the Anyang area?
Or know anything about it?

Re: Ask A Pro about Living in Seoul, South Korea
don't forget the yo
I was at a club trying to talk to a girl. I just started learning korean and in my house we don't use juhn dae mal, it's a foreign concept to me. I'm telling her the the story, I ask her a question in bahn mal, she gets up and says whatever I said plus "YO!" and leaves.

Re: Ask A Pro about Living in Seoul, South Korea
Hey guys! so my gf is going to be in a studying abroad program in Seoul at Dungguk University, and she's trying to get me to come along. Its going to be for 3-4 months.
Will it be hard for me to get around without being able to speak korean? I plan on trying rosetta stone in the next two months to try to learn as much as I can.
I play online for a living (PS) and am going to be chasing SNE this year. Will I be able to play in korea? If i need a VPN, which should I use? Also Is there a store somewhere that I could be a 30" screen? lol
How much will rent around that area run me? (how much for deposits also)
Do I need some kind of visa to go there for the 3-4 months?
Can I use my BofA debit card there to withdraw money? Or I guess, how do I get money out of my bank for spending/rent/etc.
I have a lot of other questions, but I can't think of them yet... Thanks for any help!

you can get a pay as you go phone. Also you can not use your American Iphone in Korea even if it is jail broken. there is some korean ID number on every cell phone if it is not in the database it will never get service. If you have an Alien Residency card then you can get whatever you want. If you are on a tourist visa its going to be a lot of trouble.
Also anyone who is living in Seoul and plays poker give me a PM. It would be cool to meet some other poker players. Also someone else to hit up casinos with.
