I was grinding msnl 6m for 2-3 years before switching over to heads up. I'm taking a trip there in April and then again in August to find a place. I plan on moving back in Septish for awhile.

Are you fluent? My friend told me she stayed in some studio that you can rent by the night in gangnam. I forget what it's called Also you could stay in a love motel, I heard they're really nice and I assume cheap

hey thanks for the reply

my korean is ok, my parents dont speak any english, but dont really have korean friends. I can understand most, speak basic language, but when it comes to more technical complicating things like negotiating rent or something along that line, wouldnt be able to do that easily.

Have i played with you before? I play mostly ssnl/msnl 6max and hu, and your sn looks familiar

anyhow, im kinda set on going, would like to have friends come with me but most are kinda not so stern with an answer. If i had a roomate/friend with me, im sure we can spend a little extra, but if i went alone and rented a studio, i guess im willing to fork about 2k-2.5k a month/10-15k in key money.

I already pay about 2k a month for rent living alone going to school here in the U.S. lol

if u want to be a baller in hot spots in seoul it will cost an obscene amount of money. maybe price is no issue for you. if that is the case of course you can always find something.

you could take your 2k in monthly rent down to about 400-500 bucks easy. with that extra money you could have some more wild times carefree.

if you want to save money on living space and spend it going out there is a simple solution for you. some here will say it is an oxymoron but the word you need to learn is goshiwon. go-shee-wuhn. find an "upscale" goshiwon. these are cheap rooms you can rent usually used by students.

price is definitely important, but as silly as this sounds, ill be at home half the time there (grinding).

i just googled/youtubed what a goshiwon was, and theres no way i could do it lol

dude DO NOT stay in a goshiwon. i landed here in seoul 5 days ago and got a goshiwon "upscale" version in gangnam. it is HELL, no joke. i hated it so much i just bounced on the 3rd day and got myself a nice little studio across the river for 880,000 a month

knock on your neighbor's door and say "doh-wah-ju-seh-yo" (loosely translated it means 'give me help' but it's still polite) and then lead them to the machine. Take some notes and voila.

Haha all the laundry machines I've seen in Korea look exactly like that.

I pressed pretty much anything at first and finally got to making it work fine. Can't really tell you what is what though, can't remember haha...

I asked my cousin and there are good/cheap short term rentals in Hongdae (prime location). They are called Hasuk Chibs and they even give you some meals. It's essentially a dorm or a boarding house and can be a great way to meet young Koreans.

It's certainly not a baller set up, but it sounds like a decent way to live.

Yea this is true. I'm out here teaching and my first week my school housed me in a "love motel." I thought it was weird at first because this obviously has a different stigma in the U.S. but the place was baller. From what I've heard most of the love motels are pretty nice and they keep them very clean. There were maids cleaning my room and changing sheets and towels two times a day with free mini bar in the room.

Also, the night life out here is sick. I'm not even in Seoul, I'm in Anyang and every night I've gone out I've been out till 4 or later. The places I've gone seem to stay open all night.

Quick question - I am considering going to Walker Hill for a live session. Have some questions:
1. What currency do they use? (I've heard rumors it's $ not Won)
2. How is the rake?
3. Are there many games 2/5 above (Weekday and Weekend)?

weed - from what I hear, all in the country side. I heard Koreans used to believe in shamanism and that religion still remains, said this french college kid who was doing study abroad. His goal was to find them and do some shrooms, gl!

I would definitely not do a goshi-won or a one room. Friend of mine had one, it was small, really small, really really small, really really really small and there were no windows.

Get it?

How long are you going there for? I"m visiting in Aug. and I plan on moving in sept.

there is a hookah place in gangnam that looks like it's some hippie place with mushrooms all over the walls. i'm sure you can find some stoners there who'd help you out.

syous - have you heard good things about 'hasuk chibs'? i don't care about the sharing of bathrooms but i hear they have strict rules like no bringing back girls/curfews.

i met some ppl who lived in hasuk jips, um...it just depends. Realize you're paying $400/month to live in a metropolis so it's up to you to check out how decent the place is your staying in.

I've set foot once in a hasuk jip, your personal room is still pretty damn small. I couldn't do it, but my group of friends hardly complained about living in one.

rainbow has mushrooms all over the wall? I like their shisha mixes, they do a good job.

Best shishas I've had were @ middle eastern places though. Unfortunate that they don't sell alcohol or I'd go more

yeah rainbow is great. good beer selection and the shisha mixes are solid. very cheap as well.

rainbow has paintings of mushrooms in the back, but it looks like a hippie joint (or at least that's how i see it).

i recently went to NB in Gangnam. It's currently my favorite club in Seoul. Heaven and Eden are great, but I'm not a big fan of techno music.

@Bear Jew - I actually learned about some short term housing options in Seoul. I don't know what you want to spend but there are some decent deals in gangnam or sinsa. i plan to find out more from my friend's mom soon. will let you know.

What's the name of the joint like that in Hongdae that is like that except it has a giant stream running through the center of one room? There are no tables and chairs, it's all pillows on the floor. The bar is just to the right of the entrance and you have to walk downstairs to get into the place. Seemed like a huge fire hazard but that place was like 100% to get you laid if you took a girl there.

Seoul sounds really awesome. I think I'm going to end up going by the time summer rolls around, even if I have to *sigh* teach english for a year while I get acclimated/make some contacts.

Seoul is the nuts. Having lived in Vegas, Seoul nightlife tops the debauchery and craziness of sin city imo. Plus, Korean food is awesome.
