Hey English Teachers/Korean Livers,

I've browsed through most of this thread and it definitely sparks some interest. I currently teach English in Asia, and am wondering if going to Korea to teach is there anyother place you'd want to be aside from Seoul. I'm not going to be as busto as the regular ET's as I can make ok SSNL money from poker. Also am really into learning the language here, so I think learning Korean is a must which is cool. I've heard there is one city which has some big colleges and corporate locations, would be good for college students/partying/girls or is Seoul just the stone cold nuts?

Thanks

Hey peeps, randomly stumbled across this site on a late night, had an AWESOME read, just wanted to say thanks haha XD
well apart from me being completely noob with threads etc =.= I also have a couple of questions to throw out there, if anyone has advice or opinions on anything then that would be awesome

First off, Im currently at University (Korean, but been living in nz since i was 2, dunno if Uni= college or high school, to me the U.S systems are like, weird :S)
and I LOVE the culture. Everything about Korea rocks, the nightlife, girls... well yeah basically the nightlife and the girls lol
Ive been going at the end of each year, but cause Ive started Uni i probs wont be able to go for around 2-3 years T_T fml -.-
I may be thinking a bit too far ahead, but imma musician studying music, and im planning on heading back to Seoul once i graduate, and joining one of the music companies there (like SM or JYP)
Basically, im wonderin if there's any peeps out there with any advice on living costs, benefits, wages etc for someone whos just graduated uni, and has entered a contract or something with one of them companies.
I know this is a poker site, but as i said, just throwing this out there

Second, as ive mentioned, ive been raised in NZ (im your average kiwiasian jaffa ) so english is my first language etc etc, but Im definately trying to learn/get into my culture a bit more (i can understand almost everything i hear, except maybe a couple of words per convo, and speaking is ok, but with a noob accent =.=, reading and writing is slow, to say the least)
Im wondering just how much id have to know about the culture to get through by myself once i move, I dont even know where to start

Finally, I dont want to give the wrong image, but Im just reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally freakin curious about the nightlife in Seoul, i read this entire blog in about 1 hr it was awesome haha. Over here in NZ, its kinda 'lights out' after 10Pm =.=, our 'city of sails' consists of one 2km street with several off branches so forgive me if i sound like a 10 year old kid, but im a bit of a party animal so im just wondering how peeps 'chill' in korea, if anyone has anymore awesome stories about crazy XD LOVE THAT GUY or advice on how not to wake up naked and missing your wallet (or not waking up at all O.O) after a solid night of drinking in korea, then please, do tell

well, thats everything on my mind atm, hope to hear from you guys soon
cheers

Yes

Busan is the only realistic alternative for people in their 20s but why live there when you can live in Seoul?

Out of curiosity, where are you living/working now?

I might be closing in on a job in Daegu. It seems pretty solid so far. Good hours (1-8 PM teaching elementary/middle school students). Standard OT and housing deals. Hopefully, I get to talk to the hagwon owner and a NET there. From there, just gotta look over the contract and sign up.

The job says 2.2M won, but I'm hoping that I could put on a good impression and bump that up to 2.3M won (100K raise over my last contract).

When I went to Daegu last year, I really enjoyed it. Looking at all the foreigner groups on Facebook, there seem to be many foreigners with different interests. Seeing that I'm not heavy on the nightlife like Rekrul, it shouldn't be too hard to find people with interests similar to mine.

Not to mention the apple myth on the women.

From my limited experiences there they were super fly though. And a tad less-pretentious than your average Seoul woman. Jmo here.

However, I was there in July/August 2008 and it was hot as balls in Daegu. Not sure if it's in a valley that causes it. Seemed about 5F hotter than Seoul on average.

Also got interested in a position in Ulsan. It pays more, it's in a city I am familiar with and I still have friends who live and teach there.

If I can lock up a position in Ulsan (especially this one), I would totally stoked. Seems like a great deal.

Haha I was about to post on Facebook until the "******ed monkey" comment. Might not go over so well with Korean friends.

Also, can't tell if the Masan and "24 hour convenience store" part is a level or not.

The ******ed monkey comment wasn't intended to be racist. Though the character is black, it should be obvious that the person I am speaking to is a Korean recruiter due to the horrific grammar and omission of words.

And thank you for not posting it. Quite frankly, I shouldn't have made it. I know it won't be found by recruiters on a gambling forum, but the more it spreads the worse it could get.

Yes, the Masan one is a level. I lived in Masan and I was actually told that by another recruiter as a "perk" who offered me a hagwon position there. I declined it and took a public school position instead. It is also a dirty, poor, disgusting city. It is the worst city I saw in Korea. So yeah, big level.

The airport is in Incheon, which is about 45 minutes away from the center of Seoul if memory serves. Many just combine them into one big city, but they are really two separate cities.

There are a couple of museums to see and places to shop. You could stop at Walker Hill, but they only had poker games at night when I was there. You could get some blackjack or baccarat in though.

You really have to stay late and enjoy the nightlife to really make it exciting though. But it really doesn't start until 10 or 11 PM.

Hey guys, I'm living in Korea now, and unfortunately I don't live in Seoul, but I have a vacation coming up, and I'd like to visit a casino (in Seoul) that has the equivalent of 1/2 or 2/5 NLHE. I tried googling and couldn't come up with much. One website said that one of the casinos I looked at had holdem but when I went to the site, all it said it had was 3 card poker(?) and Caribbean stud. Thanks in advance.
