My guess is that you'd be more likely to bargain with outdoor stands and markets than a Lotte Mart.
Reading and writing Korean is cake. You can learn it in less than a week. Speaking and building a vocabulary base is definitely time-consuming, though not that difficult. Certainly easier than learning English as a second language.
