If you guys are into podcasts check the recent 'the current episode' on cbc where it talks about local hostility against english teachers in Korea. Apparently there are stalkers following teachers who are trying to make them feel uncomfortable. As well people in the subway would call the women with white guys whores in Korean. Kinda ugly scene. Korea is quickly turning into a xenophobic state, more so.

The way I saw it, if a woman was strong enough emotionally to date you in the first place, it wouldn't matter whether or not some rando called her a ho. I never experienced anyone trying to intimidate me save for 1 older guy in two years. I deal with much more of that in the states fwiw. Although... I am 6'6" 230 so I'm not the easiest guy to intimidate. Maybe a small sample size? I'd like to think 2 years is enough.

Turning into?

It has been one and these type of situations are a backlash against the influx of them in this country.

Good example of what I am talking about (deals mostly with teachers). This is a post from Dave's ESL Cafe

Quote:
Yesterday in Gwangju I attended the Global English Teachers Association (GETA) symposium. The title was 'Transforming Learners, Teachers, and the English Classroom.

This was recommended to me as a professional development conference. For Native English Teachers it was anything but.

From the first presentation to the last NETs were bashed. Within the first hour a reference was made to crimes being commited by NETs. There were a few laughs during the day at our expense, and the overall purpose of the day seems to be to make the argument that monies would be better spent training Korean teacher's rather than recruiting and hiring NETs.

One discussion group was held entirely in Korea (although it was an English conference.) The topic of that presentation? 'Transforming ELT in Korea.'

This was not a small break out group - this was one of two late morning discussion groups. Native English speakers who were already seated in the auditorium were told to attend the 'Transforming ELT in Asia' discussion panel.

The fact that the Transforming ELT in Korea panel was held in Korean shows exactly how much input NETs have in the discussion.

There were a few interesting presentation in the afternoon during the break out sessions. These were mostly by grad students presenting their research. But the overall theme for the day was that NETs are bad for the development of teaching English in Korea.

Asked this in the other thread too:

Does anyone want to trade PokerStars money for won?

I previously posted as Clockout but changed my name for various reasons.

Is that near Insadong?

I don't want much. Maybe 200,000 won so whatever that comes out to with the exchange rate.

What's the best way to do it? Based on your number of posts/reputation I can definitely send cash first to your Korean bank account. Let me know.

personally I'd prefer to meet up and do it that way. I have my laptop so I can make the xfer anywhere w/wireless. And yeah, 경복궁 is right next to insadong and gwanghwamun

I guess you could xfer to my bank account but that's a bigger pain imo and takes longer. Whatever works

Anyone ITT played at a Walker Hill or 7 Luck tourney recently?

I played @ 7luck near Seoul Station and hated it. It's like 5 tables and isn't a room. It's just 5tables w/its own little section amongst the slots

Yeah, it's not great (although for me it's the savage $15 rake that's a turnoff). They're downstairs apparently now, which gives more room for poker but theoretically fewer gamboolers stumbling over drunk from slots or blackjack. Did you play a tourney there or just the cash games? I've played the cash games, but I'm thinking of hitting a tournament this weekend.

played cash games

i played the 5/5 and it was def. a fishy game. they even have a few regs too! I still really didn't like playing there though

The Walker Hill game was really fishy when I was in Seoul. I saw players getting deep stacks (like 200+ BB) in with hands like bottom pair, overcards + straight draw and nonsense like that. But the $15 rake kept me away. Playing optimally, you *might* be able to grind out a minimum wage for the game.

Also, it helps to play tight and then stack someone when you have a monster, trying to play small ball/win a lot of small pots is pretty much a disaster.

Thankfully my ISP doesn't block pokerstars!
