poco a poco - I don't know much about brasil - but just since nobody has answered....everywhere south is kinda high tourist season and prices skyrocket. I haven't been anywhere else for the night, but it seems like a mistake to not spend NYE on copacabana if you are in the area. I'd recco buzios, floripa, rio though. It's not going to be easier to setup cheap housing in advance, and that goes for anywhere latin. Online is year long unfurnished rentals for locals or airbnb type tourist stuff at a higher price.
I'm headed back to brasil in october. Looking for a place to grind for a couple months. Water is too cold to consider floripa, I'm strongly considering rio, but any other suggestions for either decent sized city or good surf town up north? Rio seems like the easy go-to and I won't be surfing unless I go to barra de tijuca (which is now super accessible now thanks to metro line..anyone confirm?) and up north just scares me a bit. Only been to salvador during carnavale and loved it, but I'm thinking tiny surf villages with no internet, or big dirty rundown cities with also no internet that are 'dangerous'.
I've been in south america 4 years now, so know my way around latin danger and it doesn't bother me, but at the same time I don't want to live in the middle of the sketch, and most traveller stories I hear is them getting robbed in N. brasil
