I haggled with a couple people on Airbnb and ended up finding a pretty nice 2.5 bedroom place in Ipanema for around $1250 USD per month (3 month period) but I don't think that's the norm. I'm guessing around there or a little bit higher than that for a decent 1 bedroom place would be standard.

FWIW I'll be leaving on May 10th and would be glad to hook anybody up w the contact info of the renter as I lucked out pretty hard timing/cost wise.

3 houses I know of...but you are trying to rent a place for like 6 days? seems a bit of a stretch. anyways all brazilian houses that I know of with just a couple gringos sprinkled about.

I would recommend 'search hostel' in floripa. good location, good surf, can play poker in a little makeshift office 24/7 if you desire, live poker room 5 minute walk away, mini-ramp, and owner knows a couple of the players around the island - so understands sunday grinds and such

you do realize rake is 5% uncapped everywhere in brazil?

We were playing 1/2 reais, they said they run up to 5/10 reais sometimes. @ 1/2 game the standard open was 20 or so, and saw plenty opens to 25/30. also btn straddle of 10 prob 50% of the time. so sounds like dumb low stakes but played somewhere in between 100 and 200NL. also casino in centro I know some of the local grinders go to occasionally. balnearinou campiwhateveritscalled is closeby (90 mins?) and has decent action as well I'm told.

internet was mind numbingly painful at times when I was bouncing around the island. search hostel has 50 mbps download speeds which blew me away, so its at least possible to get better service if you are renting longer term or something. Get a couple backups and you'll be fine

hmmm that doesnt sound worth playing. i really like the look of the place but as a sports trader that relies on good internet, brasil worries me especially as i have to use vpn too. i had loads of problems even in rio and sao paulo.

cheers for info

Hey guys, please recommend me where to stay with my gf for 3 months. We like quiet, safe, gym and supermarket nearby, good internet, beach proximity is a plus. Can pay rent up to 500USD for a short term contract. Does not have to be Rio. Any info appreciated.

Since I am a big soccer fan,is it true that there is always someone with who you can play football(soccer) at Copacabanna?I mean if I just go there and want to play with some brazillian boys, will it be super strange,or they will be happy to join them?

Coming to Rio next month for 10 days, to see Olympics. Venues I am interested in seeing are located here: http://prntscr.com/btlnyg. Could someone help me where to stay in hotel, to be located as near as possible to that location, but also safe with good internet connection, since I am planning to grind daily.

poco a poco - I don't know much about brasil - but just since nobody has answered....everywhere south is kinda high tourist season and prices skyrocket. I haven't been anywhere else for the night, but it seems like a mistake to not spend NYE on copacabana if you are in the area. I'd recco buzios, floripa, rio though. It's not going to be easier to setup cheap housing in advance, and that goes for anywhere latin. Online is year long unfurnished rentals for locals or airbnb type tourist stuff at a higher price.

I'm headed back to brasil in october. Looking for a place to grind for a couple months. Water is too cold to consider floripa, I'm strongly considering rio, but any other suggestions for either decent sized city or good surf town up north? Rio seems like the easy go-to and I won't be surfing unless I go to barra de tijuca (which is now super accessible now thanks to metro line..anyone confirm?) and up north just scares me a bit. Only been to salvador during carnavale and loved it, but I'm thinking tiny surf villages with no internet, or big dirty rundown cities with also no internet that are 'dangerous'.

I've been in south america 4 years now, so know my way around latin danger and it doesn't bother me, but at the same time I don't want to live in the middle of the sketch, and most traveller stories I hear is them getting robbed in N. brasil

I spent NYE in Paraty. No where near the size of the big one, but still a fun party/concert there.

^^ no idea what's going on here. love you too alien, haha who you callin papi, papi? spanish is not portuguese. tinder is too amazing/easy not to in rio. costa is meh, nice place to tourist out for a month, but no interest living there. enjoy though, really sick place with some awesome spots all throughout the county from coast to coast

so i'm moving to rio. Staying for 3 months. any interest in roommate/grindhouse holla at me. I arrive on the 28th of this month and staying with a friend for a bit, but want to be moved in the first week of October and stay thru NYE. Planning on being pretty grind heavy, but will also be skate/surf/partying a bit. Have some friends there now scouting apartments and also have a couple other good contacts. Budget $500-1000 per room or so. Zona sur.

bumpin an old thread:

headin back to rio w/ my gf for a few weeks - 11-24th of july. we'll be up in MG for a bit but spending at least 2 weekends or more in Rio.

Its our 3rd or maybe 4th trip back there, we stay with family who are from there so we dont need any hand holding/wouldnt be stuck to anyone - but
we're always looking for cool **** happenin if folks know. last time i was there i linked up with some folks and was able to DJ a party up at the top of Vidigal which was good times considering its one of my professions (house/disco mostly vinyl but i'll play on whatever)

hmu. i plan on doing a lot of record shopping but was hoping to maybe find a card game too.

Live poker games are amazing in Brazil. When I go abroad I always get dissapointed at the foreign fish. The only thing is that the stakes are usually low.

Try googling (city) poker club, or "onde jogar poker em (city)

MG is awesome

Boliver, I definitelly don't reccomend Rio if you're staying long term. In the Northeast it's waaaay cheaper/warm water/friendlier people. Seriously, Rio is the hardest to make friends in Brazil. I don't have superb knowledge about the NE not gonna give city examples

Oh ok ok - i see one in Central that seems pretty popular near the Cindelandia metro stop, I'll pop thru. there's a record store not far from there i went to last time as well.

Do folks speak english at the tables or nah? My portuguese is well below average and I stick out cuz im white so I'm tryin to brush up more with phrases etc. My gf is almost fluent tho but she wouldnt come with me to a card game itd bore her to tears.

I bumped a very old thread btw so those other responses are from 2016

amazing games sure. 5% uncapped rake makes em essentially not worth it imo. I go for unlimited free food and drinks to get my rakeback and then leave asap. Live players don't pay enough attention to rake. get in stacks at 500NL. vegas = $4 rake total. Brazil = $50-100. that's disgusting.

Lived in rio for like 8 months and really love that city. So many good things going on - but yea next time around I'm planning on heading north to bahia or fortaleza. So tough to get info on what is good up there though and lots of mixed opinions.
