you are supposed to leave every 3 months, and it can just be a day trip or whatever to uruguay, but if you do overstay the 3 month restriction you have to pay a 300ish peso fine as you leave the country. Other than the fine there are no other consequences, they will let you back in the country without any issues if you overstay the 3 months.

Re: Ask me about Buenos Aires - Argentina

Cars are stupid expensive in Argentina, like 3 times or more as expensive as in the US. Importing a corvette, LOL. That would be an absolute nightmare in red tape and huge taxes, not to mention would be almost un-driveable in the city due to potholes and speed humps at the intersections. Also you would probably be so worried about someone stealing your car you wouldn't be able to enjoy anything.

Maybe a long time ago you could whatever car you wanted in Argentina but not now. I think its very difficult to even get a modest new BMW there now.

"They demanded Argentina take immediate steps to reverse its policies or risk further action at the WTO. Argentina has also been pushing importers to match their purchases abroad with exports, leading to quirky deals such as one where car maker BMW exports rice." from here.

Also wanted to comment on the bank account thing in OP. It is a huge problem for foreigners to open a bank account there. If you do manage to open one you wont be doing international bank wires to or from it. Certainly will be better to get a foreign bank account or offshore account before you go and get your money wired to that and use that debit card from the ATMs.

True, neteller is the unique or a private person who exchanges the money for cash.

Re: Ask me about Buenos Aires - Argentina

Tim, why you said that your Net is barely working?. I cashout often and i don't have any problems. The thing is in some banks you have a cashout limit. In Buenos Aires the best bank to cashout money is the Citibank, you can cashout $4K pesos per day. Instead, in some other banks you can only cashout $1k pesos. Google the Citibank ATMs for your cashouts and make it $3999 pesos.

BTW Tim, if u got the chance to go out with an argentinian girl, take her to have dinner here: http://www.morenabeach.com.ar/morena-eng.html
Make a reservation in a tables with views to the river. Very sweeeeet place!

I went to 5 dif branches teh other day and tried with both of my neteller mastercards and every atm was saying something like "we have difficulties processing your request atm". Had teh same prob one day b4 where the 3rd atm i went to was giving me money while the two others responded with the same msg as stated above...

Re: Ask me about Buenos Aires - Argentina

Something similar has happened to me before where I couldn't use any one of three mastercards I had. It could be the mastercard network in buenos aires, not your card or the bank. I'm assuming you have used those ATMs and cards before and they worked. Just wait a day or two and try again.

Pretty much this. Haha really hit the nail on the head.

I've been living here for almost a year now, I think the thread is a good idea because the EDF one is so massive but given OP doesn't mention:
1) Expensive Electronics / Import Duties
2) Inflation Problem / Can't Exchange to dollars
3) Bank account are most definitely NOT easy to open.
It's kinda bad.

Re: Ask me about Buenos Aires - Argentina

ATMs sometimes run out of money over the weekend, and once a couple in an area run out of money then obviously it increases demand at the others and they run out too. And last Monday was a holiday.
