Re: Ask Josem about visiting/living in Australia

Hey Josem, it's proably been answered multiple times itt but I can't be going thru the entire thing so maybe you could just give a brief answer. Is it possible to move to Aus (I'm from UK) on online poker earnings? Would you need like consistant bank statements showing x amount per year or....?

it depends on things like amount of money, qualifications, etc.

see www.immi.gov.au for the process

I doubt they would accept a poker player as the income isn't taxable. They don't want people here who don't pay any tax.

You can't just move here based on your earnings. You can move here based on a required skill (e.g. if you are an electrician) or you can move here on a business visa which requires an ongoing investment and a history of running businesses.

Re: Ask Josem about visiting/living in Australia

Hi, I am a 30yo Swedish poker pro, i did spend 5months in Surfers paradise 2009 playing poker. I am now thinking about taking my GF for a 1year trip to Australia but this time i want to rent a little house with furniture and a good AC unit with an internet conection. What i dont know is where to rent it. I do not want to spend more then 700Aud for rent and internet and i dont want to sign for more then 3months at a time. The best place would be somewhere that is not as bussy as Surfers paradise, it was fun living there for about 2weeks then i got sick of it. Im looking for something smaller but still big enogh so that my GF can have soemthing to do for 1year, i think she would like to read french or maby english. Hope you guys can help me knowing better what i want since right now all i know is that i want to go to Aus for 1 year

Re: Ask Josem about visiting/living in Australia

yah, you're going to be working hard for something like that.

Small country towns are really your own options, I'd suggest anything between Newcastle and the Queensland border would be pretty good for you.

Rly is it that expensive to rent in small town Aus? What price would you say is needed for me to be able to easly find a living there? Last time i think i spent just over 1200aus but then i lived in a hotel in surfers paradise!

Re: Ask Josem about visiting/living in Australia

In 2007 I lived in a nice two bedroom townhouse in a small country town for $185 per week. Add on inflation, and subtract "niceness" and I think you could find something for around $800 per month, PLUS internet.

How about NZ, is it more expensive there? After talking to my GF it looks like we might go there instead. I did spend about 5month in Queenstown and Auckland but if i go back i dont want to live in those places but instead in smaller non turist town.

Re: Ask Josem about visiting/living in Australia

I am hoping to stay in Melbourne from April 2012 through 2013 Aussie Millions. Just finished applying for my tourist visa. I could use some recommendations on where to look for a condo/apt. I'm willing to spend somewhere around US$3k-4k / month for a nice 1/1. Is that enough to get me in a nice place? Some things I value: Markets, Gym, Coffee, restaurants, and a good place to get a beer. I'd like to walk everywhere if possible, so proximity to those is important. Thanks for any help on finding a place, and for all of the information I already gathered from the thread.

Re: Ask Josem about visiting/living in Australia

Ben86,

You want to look for an apartment in one of these locations:

-Southbank or CBD/City/Melbourne - High-rise

-Prahran or Windsor or South Yarra - Low-rise

3k-4k a month is enough to get a very nice place. $500/wk (AU rentals are priced on a weekly basis) would get you an above-average place.
