Well, if you're bringing an iPhone from the US, it needs to have an older baseband and be jailbroken for you to be able to software unlock it. Otherwise you need to use Gevey. Google is your friend.

However, if you don't already have an iPhone, you can buy a Globe-locked iPhone locally and use it on the Globe network, or buy a factory-unlocked iPhone from Hong Kong or Singapore (widely available here but at a higher price).

Quite a few of my friends use and own Iphones. Some bought them here used some bought them new. If your looking for a second hand one check craigslist, Sulit or OLX and just hope to run good.

Or you could just buy a fake Chinese iphone for 3000 pisos

also, i'm up for grabbing a beer anytime. a little about me... 30 filam living in QC. born and raised in the states but moved here from LA 3 months ago. still learning to speak tagalog, but understand it almost fluently. made the decision to move after visiting each of the last couple years for family weddings and just dug the lifestyle.

also, i go to metro walk once or twice a week. yes, the rakes suck, but you don't have to worry much about them when you run like poop like me =). been to resorts world several times but mainly when the APT was running.

Has anyone tried getting PLDT bizDSL? Is it readily available in residential areas of Cebu?

Thinking about relocating to the PI, but I'd prefer to go somewhere less congested than Manila. I am an online poker pro, so reliable internet is at the top of my priorities list.

Edit: Also, it looks like Neteller is available in PI. Is this true?

there's a separate thread started by a group of guys that have a poker house in Cebu. they should be able to answer any broadband questions.

I posted my Trip Report for Philippines, sorry if I was a little harsh, just my personal experience and maybe I ran bad in those 10 days.

The OP's in the Cebu thread have been unresponsive for a long while.

Good read but I laughed when I saw that you went to White Beach, anyone here would have told you right away to stay away from it, 100% LBs and stoney sand. And btw, it should be high season now but its always low season at White beach

Sabang for bar fun and a visit to some of the private beaches is the way to go so I'm happy you ended up there in the end.

I only went to White Beach because it was recommended?!?!?!?

This was the response I got when asked about getting away from Manila to a beach.

Ok, fair enough.

Camaya Coast in Bataan has the nicest beach close to Manila IMO.

haha my bad!! The beach isn't that bad though if your only there for beach. Do agree with L4freedom that Sabang then hiring a boat and going to private beaches is probably the best way to go.

dude you have a lot of s**t to do for your visa which is gonna take awhile. You could get it there prior to coming through a phil embassy or just come as a tourist and do a visa conversion but your going to need the correct documents.

When is this happening? I'm not new, but I haven't met anyone yet except for one guy for one hand in a tournament.

And also I want to swap a little FTP money for Stars, at least a few hundred to have a bankroll there.

You can upgrade the baseband to the ipad baseband with any phone when you jailbreak it, then unlock it with ultrasnow and it works fine. I did it with mine last week. Doing so almost definitely voids your warranty though.

I wouldn't rent anything without see it in person. I would book a few nights at a hotel in Makati and visit the lease offices at Rockwell and check out some ads on craigslist and sulit.com.ph.

Cheap but very location dependent, make sure to test it inside the condo before renting. All the major operators (Globe, Smart and Sun) have pre-paid mobile internet. 4G is only available on contract (6 months minimum) AFAIK.

can anyone recommend a decent hotel in manila? preferably not too far from the airport. dont need anything super fancy but dont want to stay in a cheap **** hole either. just something with good value. I have an overnight layover on my way back to the US, really dreading it, can't stand manila.

Also what is the best way to not get ripped off when taking taxis. I swear im not gonna be able to hold back from punching some cabbie in the face if he asks me for a tip after charging me 3 times what my fare should be
