Ya, I agree, it will be difficult, relatively. I personally know people in Manila who managed to pull this off so it's far from impossible.
Didn't we have someone here at 2+2 who succeeded doing the same in Cebu?

I know a decent amount of locals here, some rich and some not so rich. I only know one case of a well off girl (I think she is at least, cousin of a cousin who is a well known surf model) with a foreigner, but I've seen some interactions in clubs suggesting it's definitely doable to hook up with/date them, although marriage is an entirely different matter, since they'll probably want family approval. That said if you're successful by western standards and good looking or good with girls, I think it's definitely possible.

I would say I married into a well off filipino family (I made a post about this couple pages back iirc). Me being a white american hasn't caused any major issues, there are some cultural differences but I think they accepted me because I try to be very genuine and honest that I love my wife and I wasn't there for a quick hook up. As far as social status is concerned, they're probably happy that there daughter is married to a young good looking foreigner as opposed to the stigma that is generally attached when you see some old fat foreigner with a young girl. Every so often some gossip may go around or someone might shoot an odd look at us wondering why I'm with my wife or how we met but those are usually from the ignorant so it doesn't bother us much.

An American would feel less xenophobia in the Philippines in general or when trying to develop a relationship with a traditional filipino family a lot less than in other asian cultures because of the large American influence here, considering the negative history the Philippines has with so many foreign occupiers they always felt the americans treated them better and there is a influence of american culture which is very evident in the PI. I'm not saying it would be easy (it's not) but it can be done and I would say the attitudes will be more positive if you are genuine and there is a true love there.

TBH I grew up as one of the few white kids growing up in a somewhat bad area of Hawaii where they hated white people so I could honestly say I'm treated better and have a better life in the Philippines than I ever did in Hawaii outside of a few luxuries you don't have in most of southeast asia.

kudos to you Fight, yeah theres a difference between people like you and the creepy creepo foreigners who usually bag the poor ugly girls who are just using them for cash and a Visa back to wherever they are from. You are probably a clean cut nice looking guy with a future and a nice family, which is what helped you get in and be accepted

Does anyone know where I can buy a desktop with dual dvi? I'm probably getting a 30'' monitor and need that for max resolution. I checked eastwood cybergate and nothing there, and don't want to try a ton of places and waste a day or two looking. Also does anyone know a good moving service as I'm buying a bit of furniture?

Search this on Google: "site:tipidpc.com dual-link dvi video card"

For a moving service, search on Sulit for: "lipat bahay" ("move house"). ~P2500-5000 gets you a huge truck with 1-2 helpers. Or if you don't have so much stuff, just search for "truck/van/L300 for hire."

On the topic of relationships, I would HIGHLY recommend not having a monogamous relationship for AT LEAST the first year or two. Occasionally I feel like settling down with a serious girlfriend, but every time I change my mind. It's hard to eat a sandwich every day when you can eat buffet.

First time hitting the bar scene in Manila was this week so I figure I'd give a TR.

Info on me, just an average mid 20's american who has been reading up on places like thailand and the philippines for years sso I figured I would make an effort to see what I could in my 1 night stay in Manila. I stayed in Pasay as its close to the airport and semi-centrally located between hitting EDSA and Makati (two area's I considered checking out the most). After much research I figured I would hit up the EDSA entertainment complex since I was trying to spend under 6k in the bars that night and I've heard Makati can be a bit more pricey. EDSA entertainment complex is basically a series of bars all located in close proximity.

On the flight over I was jittery and pumped about seeing this for real finally, I arrived at my hotel at about 10pm which was enough time to change n head out. The area I stayed in was a little off the main roads so there weren't any taxi's immediately available, the hotel offered one of those passenger bicycle type things where someone bikes you somewhere to a nearby location, after some hesitation I said **** it since EDSA was like 10 minutes away. My goal for the night was to spend less than 6,000 Peso's (like 140$) so getting totally trashed wasn't on the menu for tonight either, just observe, nurse a few drinks, scope out the talent and take out a gem if I spot one. SO off I went swerving through some side street traffic until I got to the overpass where I would walk over to the entrance of the bars. Offered the bike driver 120 peso's (which was generous but he wasn't pushy n was real nice about telling me where to go n I will usually tip someone well who isn't pushy or trying to hustle) at which point he gives me a confused look, I pull out 200 pesos and say "ok is this enough?" as I was in a hurry to get inside already. Turns out I misinterpreted his confused look for thinking its not enough, "Sir...That's too much" the driver utters to me and I smile, hand him the 120 n say "Don't worry about it man, this is for you"

I'm already nervous walking on the overpass shooting glances every which way thinking the worst of people walking by me, maybe from reading too many pick pocket stories but I'm half F'ing run/walking across this mother ****er. I hear someone behind me as I race down the stairs say "Hey Man!" I look back and it was a hotel employee I saw earlier who probably got off work, "Take it easy on those stairs, that would be a bad fall" "Oh thanks" I murmur back as a collect myself and realize this area isn't all that bad if you just stay aware to your surroundings. My hearts racing and I calm myself down as I reach the entrance, pull my cap over my face a little to try and cover my young american looking newb ass and avoid too much attention. Get inside the complex and noticed woman's in all directions standing outside there respective establishments. A bar I had been reading about that almost always had positive praises was the "Firehouse", and it didn't disappoint. As I walk to that bar I see groups of guys also trying to wave me in, some of which kind of stand in my way while I'm trying to get too the firehouse, "F man they can spot you from a mile a way you ****in newbie" I give them the Obi Wan wave and shake my head at there offers like a seasoned vet and continue right past them "It's cool man, you been reading up on this sh*t for years you know what to do, keep your cool and THEY WONT KNOW SH*T MAN" I think to myself, Enter the firehouse and I'm completely overwhelmed as too what I'm seeing, all these years I dreamed, read and saw pictures of this but to see it IRL blows me away. "DONT STARE AND FKN LOOKED CONFUSED, THATS LIKE PAINTING A TARGET ON YOUR FACE" I recall, see an empty seat at the bar and make a B-line for it. Sit down and see some very solid dancers on stage and more girls that I can wrap my mind around at this moment; just sitting around the stage and various area's of the bar. I order a coke and as I study the girls on stage I cup my hands together like in a Hellmuth pose with my hat brim slightly covering my face as to hide the absolutely ear to ear smile I have. "This is what it must have felt like for kids when they first got to see Disneyland" not that I would have known since we couldn't afford to go when I was a kid, but F IT this is my Disneyland and this has to be x36298629486 times better...

to be continued in my next post

...As I sip my drink girls dancing on the stage are staring at me heavily and when I glance around the room I notice I'm probably one of the few white people in here (some jap/chinese/koreans business types) and am by far the youngest. Most smile and wave and I oblige and wave back. One great thing about the Firehouse bar is its owned by a foreigner (Italian) who def tries to make it a more comfortable environment, other bars will try and shove random girls onto you and force you to buy pricey ladies drinks as soon as you sit down but no not this place. I was able to sit in peace and scope out my targets for the night without hassle, if you like a girl its as simple as waving them over or letting the mamasan know who you want to talk too. A real cute girl a few seats away from me had been constantly smiling and appearing interested so I waved her over. I would give her a solid 7.5, 8.5 in the body with some C cup tits and nice ass while she had a plain face that I would say was like a 7 but her personality kind of sold me. You could tell she was new in this game as she only had one friend working there and def had the deer in headlights kind of shyness going on with her, I like the innocent shy types a little more the sluttier seasoned vets. I order her a drink (margarita) and she barely sips it and gives a few funny faces as she drinks it showing she isn't the biggest drinker. I inquire on prices and find out her ladies drink is like 180 peso, my coke was like 80 peso and a bar fine in this joint runs 1600 peso's. We chat a little more and in my mind I'm kind of set on this chick but its still a little early (midnight) and I haven't seen any other bars. I tell her I might come back to get her later and I want to scope out the other bars first before deciding.

Other bars weren't impressive IMO and the overall quality of the girls was below Firehouse but there are some solid ones that stand out in each line up. Stopped in Pit Stop pulled the best looking chick off the stage (7ish skinnier chick but def look on the wild side) bought her a ladies drink, get the vibe she is hella aggressive and is a vet in this game. Informs me she has been at it for over a year and seems to be game for anything, I undue her top a little and get to feel up the goods. Ask her about barfine she tells me 1600, most of the bars in EDSA the barfine currently is 1600 and a higher negotiated tip is expected for a full night of action, this isn't like angeles city where you just pay the barfine and tip the girl whatever you feel (even like 500-1000 is being nice in angeles) in Manila I think somewhat to do with the influence of overpaying asian business types that your expected to put up beyond 2,000 peso tip for the girl for the full night. Most would agree the overall quality of girls in the better Manila bars is higher than anywhere else in the country and there probably attracted there because they can bank more. Stunners (8-9's) might demand 4,000 plus and this could be negotiable depending on how much they want to go with you (IE if your fat, stinky and old). This is in EDSA too remember which is somewhat cheaper than Makati, alot of the area's best talent head to Makati but just remember that top Makati establishments are going to demand a higher budget (from what I heard its between 200-350 for ladies drinks, 2,000+ bar fines, some places have minimum # ladies drinks that you need to purchase to go in and stunners demand anywhere from between 4,000 being the low end and up to 10,000 on the higher side).

So anyway back to chatting with this vet, she says 3,000 peso tip and she would go with me for the whole night, "What do I look like a small dick asian businessman to you?" is what I think since this chick while not bad looking isn't a stunner and is a little seasoned for my liking. Finish my drink n roll out of there, next couple bars I hit (Ca$ino, Space girls etc... cant remember them all) I dont like the vibe much, girls were overall average and as soon as I step in these places your just getting pressured from the get go. Mamasans all in my face, bartenders and girls demanding you buy them ladies drinks, you almost have to swat them off of you to just get a minute to check out the line up. I'm already missing Firehouse's more laid back atmosphere, last bar on the list I hit is Cotton Club and get a red bull to try and wake myself up (btw all my southeast asian 2+2 you guys know the red bull is way different and kind of weak, its more like juice. like this

Soon as I sit down I'm getting grouped (almost like jerked off) under the table by some plain clothes kind of chubby chick, I try to be polite and say she is not my type but she is all over me rubbing my junk. The older girls in this bar look like they have been in the game for awhile and wasn't what I was going for on this night, spot a cute shorty on stage who looks more innocent and I call her down. Get her a drink and now that I see her up close she looks kind of young (I mean most attractive asian girls look younger than there age anyway) we get to talking and I notice there is a VIP room upstairs, I ask whats the deal with that and they say its 3k consumable with drinks and stuff so I think that's geared more towards groups or people who just want to **** on the spot and not barfine. She mentions she is a working student, I ask her what college she goes too and she says she is in highschool. At this point alarms go off in my head since the grad age for highschool in the philippines is 16 or less, I have heard of some raids going down on some shadier establishments which knowingly or unknowingly had some under aged girls in the bars. I immediately abort the mission and pay my bill and GTFO of that bar, head back to the Firehouse. I can see why now from my research alot of people liked this bar, solid line ups, lots too choose from, laid back atmosphere, I hear the management is more strict about the girls they hire which is good for the customers as they generally are more careful about documentation and don't tolerate much in terms of girls who do shadey **** to customers. Walk around and eventually find the girl from earlier, I offer to barfine her and she explains that she doesn't want to leave her friend alone and they will get off work at 3am (which is about 1 and 1/2 hours from now), I thought this was some type of additional barfine hustle but she just simply explains that her friend will come to my room at 3am and she wants to join us for no extra fee. At this point I'm doing mental fist pumps since I haven't shipped a threesome before and tell her friend my room # and my main girl gets changed. As I'm waiting the mamasan comes up to me n tries to say I need to give the girl an addtional 2,500 for short time (3 hours) and 4,000 for the whole night (probably reads me correctly for a newb and is trying to haggle me to agree to pay high and get a cut off the girl), I reply its between me and the girl whatever I choose to tip her. She backs down and I take my girl into a taxi and were off, taxi asks for 100 for like a 4 minute drive but F it I'm too tired to **** around at this hour and look for another taxi so I take it. Hotel is pretty girl friendly so I tip a nice guard from earlier who helped me out (think i only gave him 40 but thats still generous considering they rarely get tipped at all) and we head up to my room. All this time were talking and I'm vibbing with this girl, she seems to be very new to this scene and seems to be genuine and alot more innocent than some of the cold blooded chicks from earlier. I'm not worried about age as she has a more mature attitude and looks to be above 18 from my read (she says 19, fkn amazing body for 19 tho) she speaks english well and carries a conversation with me impressively. She tells me this is her 6th night working and is very selective about who she goes with, she said she only went with asian business types (the rule of 4 is it? lol) and I saw her reject some older looking white guy earlier who tried to barfine her. This is def feeling like the Girlfriend Experience I always heard about, no cold expressionless, fk me and get it over with attitudes that some whores will give you.

Get to my room, get a good massage, joins me in the shower, scrubs me down and even blows me upon request (BJ was meh her inexpedience showed here) we agree that we should wait for her friend to come up since its only an hour away and I didnt want to blow my load with what potential awesomeness lays ahead. I trusted her but from the advising of expats that I read about I went downstairs and put my valuables in a safety deposit box the hotel offers at the front (passport, atm, phone) I had some spare cash lying around my room that night that she didn't touch so it didn't seem necessary to do that but it doesn't hurt to play it safe. Nearing 3 o clock me n her decide to kick things off early and she prompts me this isn't going down without a condom (which made me feel a little better knowing she at least tries to stay safe at least for now anyway) of course i had one ready to go. During the action such her friend texts us to say she got bar fined right before closing and wouldn't be joining us "FK MY DUMB CHEAP AZZ basically missed out my first 3some with two hot friends over a 1600 peso barfine" So I go ahead and proceed to take my frustrations out on her va jay jay and beat it up hard (I could tell my member was bigger than what she was used too lol) and even hit her up again at 4am to the point where both us were so tired we could barely finish. Wake up at 9 cuz my flight was at 12 (she didnt like this lol cant blam eher for being tired though) which she exclaims being too tired and sore to go another round so she blows me, showers and gets ready to go. Said she is gonna wait for her friend n go out so I give her 3k peso (she said usually demands 4k+ but she didn't suggest any amount to me directly but I can only assume for a good service with a girl as solid as her that at least 2k+ is expected in this situation).

So all an all I was able to keep to my 6k budget just for the bar. Expenses were as follows

1,000 for drinks (this was being on the mega conservative side, I only had 1 alcoholic drink myself which was like 120 and bought 3 ladies drinks that were around 180 and the coke n rebull were 80 each for me, you can easily expect to drop wayyyy more than this if your planning on getting trashed and are being generous with the ladies drinks which add up quick)
1,600 for barfine
400 random expenses, (condoms, tipping at bar, taxi's etc...)
3,000 tip
which was 6k exactly, missed out a on a 3some but oh well i still was happy with the evening.

My hotel was 3,100 peso which is kind of pricey but it included airport pick up and drop off, the room was very big and was decent plus it was centrally located near the action.

Can anyone who has spent a decent amount of time in Thailand give me a breakdown on Philippines?

Firstly, do most people go to Manila? Are any of the other destinations actually popular, or very far down the list?

How are prices compared to LOS? Manila seems a lot more expensive than Bangkok and accommodations seem crappier/older/dirtier even though they are priced higher than Bangkok?

I haven't spent much time in PI but this has not been my impression. I think you are probably looking at properties on websites that have jacked up prices for foreigners.

Makati seems to be the desired destination.

It really is location dependent.
High end studios are $1K
You can get a crappy place for less than $100
Decent condos in decent (not top) locations in Makati you can get for like $500

Makati is Makati I mean, if you wanna experience other things than malls, banks and skyscrapers - Makati isn't for you.
