It may be related to this : since it happened, coins.ph has gone from
-2% / +0.5% in their normal bid/ask for btc/php quote to
+4% / + 20% super wide and completely 'bid' price

165.000/190.000 php per btc right now...

What could martial law throughout the Philippines possibly mean for expats living here?

Title is just clickbait anyways. If "ISIS has taken control on Luzon" then you'll be welcoming martial law.

Eh...There was an armed robbery at the Bellagio a month or two ago. I get that this is a bigger scale thing, but it's also the third world. My point is if an armed robbery can happen at one of the wealthiest and biggest name recognition casinos in the entire world in the heart of Las Vegas in the first world then casinos aren't as impenetrably safe as many people like to believe they are anyway.

Considering this is the third world I don't think it should be all that surprising just because the location was a nice casino.

At least 37 dead in Resorts World Manila attack - police

If I understand correctly, he didn't shoot anyone but burned the gambling tables causing a lot of smoke which killed 36 people. ****ed up.

All those shotguns security guards everywhere carry, and dumb bag checks, and they can't stop one armed guy walking in and starting a fire

I wrote my above reply with the information available at that time which was that no one had been killed or died as a result of this attack. If indeed 37 people died from this attack then even considering comparing it to an armed robbery in a US casino in which no one was killed is absurd.

My general point about casino safety still stands, but I don't wish to in anyway compare a deathless armed robbery to what happened in Resorts World yesterday.

it was pretty absurd the whole time if you are talking about those pig head guys who robbed some watches and comparing it to a terrorist attack

I wasn't really comparing it to a terrorist attack though, I was looking at iit from a casino safety perspective. Was pointing out that in general people are not quite as safe in casinos as many seem to think they are...regardless of where they are located in the world.

I can't believe how some Filipinos think that this incident is planned so that Duterte can declare martial law not just in Mindanao but in the whole country.

Meh comparable conspiracies happen in every country after every (terrorist) attack. Some go as far as claiming western politicians are behind terrorist attacks just to make Islam look bad. So IMO these conspiracies are not a Filipino thing

I personally don't ever believe politicians are behind such attacks. But they certainly do introduce/accept "privacy-reducing laws" because of such individual attacks even if the effectiveness of these laws are very questionable.

Anyway, in this situation Duterte seems to agree that this was the work of a "crazy man", so I don't expect much law changes after this.
