Does anyone on the ground in the Philippines think that the new extrajudicial vigilantism could spill over into the poker world?

Imagine a huge pot that local pinoy gets one outer'd. Unbelievably upset. Hour later in parking lot, gun shot! Says he saw winner smoking a joint.

Ridiculous? or potentially possible?

I would like to open a bank account. I arrived on the visa waiver program. How early can I extend to 29 days extra and thereafter 2 months or 6 months to get the acr card?

I don't think you have that problem as a foreigner, but you can still be gun down, but you don't get the sign saying you were a pusher or drug addict. Not that it makes a difference.

I think most of the Filipinos at higher stakes are rich and don't get that upset about losing anyway.

Well most filipinos(no matter how rich) don't like to lose to foreigners... But at least most poker places are pretty safe(cameras and guards).

You will get acr on your second extension(have to wait some time(week(s) before you can pick it up). Be prepared to visit different banks and even branches to find bank where you can open it... but eventually you will find one

It's the Philippines, if someone wanted to kill you before Duterte took office then they could have very easily too. Probably a tiny bit easier now but doesn't really matter.

Technically you can apply for an ACR at any time, I vaguely remember hearing bad things about the process though. It's just a matter of whether it's really worth it to have a bank account 6-8 weeks sooner. You might even be able to open an account somewhere like Bank of China without an ACR (but there will be other requirements)..as has been stated many times YMMV

Random question on Visa(s) again, I'm considering flying in and out weekly, is there a specific limit on the number of visas I can be issued. I looked at the above link and I can apply for it, but do you have to remain in PH during the process?

My assumption is that as long as I pay the $10 to have an exit flight, id be accepted each entry? I'm considering the idea of flying out Monday, flying back in Friday each week, and need to understand if this would be rejected due to consistency? Is there something I can buy that gives me priority to enter/exit?

The information on continual exit/entry is somewhat sparse...

Yeh, you would need to state the "purpose" in the request (and getting bank account in first few weeks as a "tourist" here - does look a bit strange.) AFAIK, the voluntary ACR is really meant for married people who are here on a BB stamp. But I agree that would be the only possibility, obviously just doing some P2P trading or whatever would be a better temp solution.

@jsplit: I did lot of research about immigration here, but that situation is indeed not common My guess is that the "visa waiver" stamp (note: it isn't actually a visa) should be fine, since going out for only 1 day after "max tourist time" is also allowed. It's all about "last arrival date" till "now" and according to that you would never need a visa :x

Yeah the above is exactly what im seeing everywhere, nowhere does it state a cap on visa waivers, so technically id just refresh my status every weekend. I know im over thinking this some what with Visas being super easy to obtain, but moving everything over there and then hitting a 'Cap' and having to stay X amount of days outside would be a complete nightmare.

I'm pretty sure if the above happens id be able to buy/bribe my way in, but that's obviously a last resort etc

I was more hoping they have a program similar to Thai Elite, where I can buy a visa or buy something that stands for a year, and allows me to skip general immigration questions/lines etc

Yeh, I think there is only a "1-year multi-entry visa" (that only allows 59 days per entry) possibility at some PH embassies. But if you are already here, only "extensions" are possible. It obviously doesn't make much sense why they would have different visas at embassies and locally... but yeh (:

In addition, I think there is only a separate airport-customs line (=faster) for (permanent?) ACR holders - so not sure if that multi-entry visa would even help you much with that. Although I get the idea that having at least some real paid visa would give more confidence in not getting any problems

edit: embassy in Bangkok does have that multi-entry visa. Not sure if you can apply for that and not sure if it will really help (might just be wasting some fees), but at least some possibility.

Do you think this will cause anyone to rethink the escalation of the war on drugs in Ph? Im guessing not.

Ugh still the same article... someone really needs to post some type of analysis instead of just death numbers which is meaningless.

I think even if the poor people disagree they would never say anything out of fear.

I'm not saying you should do it. About time some news site did though, it's really garbage reporting on a pretty serious issue.

So some quick wikipediaing: 10 murders per 100,000 in Philippines. Population 100 million.

total murders a year: approx 10,000. 10,000/12 =833 average a month.

last two months 1900 murders for average of 950.

You don't consider a 14% increase to be significant?

In most things an increase of 14% is considered to be significant.

Also the manner in which people are being killed as well as the times of day they are being killed at and locations they are being killed at all have varying affects on the overall safety of the streets as well.

Then to there is the fact that at the end of the first month the death toll was said to be between 400-500, so either it increased almost 3x in month two or they have now found out they greatly under reported last months deaths meaning there are also probably currently way under on this months deaths. In other case the actual 2 month total is likely to be at least a few hundred more than 1900.

That would then further increase the percentage raise in monthly murders between pre Duterte and now.

But that's speculation for now.

With the numbers your provided we have evidence of a 14% increase in monthly murders, hard to not consider that a significant increase.

I think you're comparing only the drug-related homicides this year to total homicides from other years. In the time period since Duterte took office, the murder/homicide rate was ~70% higher this year compared to the same time period last year: Philstar Article

I believe those are the PNP numbers but I haven't looked into it further.

I think a 14% increase on it's own is not significant for a third world county given the misreporting, unreporting, etc... of crimes. I think 14% easily falls into that "margin of error" but your point of the where, when and how needs to be considered for sure.
How many more execution style murders are taking place? The OG's in the barrios or whatever they are called there probably have the most accurate information of who is killing who. Maybe it's other gangs or whatever killing under the guise of this Duerte motivation.
