Paul, do you fly out to Malaysia or HK for 1 day every 18 months? Do you feel comfortable leaving your stuff in PI because chance of re-entry denial is minimal?

Last week, I tried to extend my tourist visa past 18 months and they gave me the third degree.

Meaning you were denied extension past 18 months?

Why, and what happened?

Interesting because have never heard anything like that before. I assume you haven't left the country within these 18 months time at some point?

Surely you have to understand why!! I know its possible to stay over 18 months but you have to have some sort of valid reason like your GF is 8 months pregnant.

If you have been here for 18 months plus surely you must know someone by now who would be able to sort you out an entry/exit stamp for some pisos.

Some immigration guy pulled me aside and questioned me about how I can afford to stay in the Philippines this long, am I working here, etc. They told me I have to call on Monday and they will tell me whether I've been extended or not. Extensions past 18 months require the permission of the commissioner, but I was under the impression that they weren't maldito about it. I'm certainly going to reset my visa instead of dealing with that B.S. again.

Hello there!

Anybody here based in Tagaytay/Cavite/Batangas?

Will be headed that direction on Feb.

Would be nice to meet 2+2ers in the area.

Looking forward to grind sessions and biking trips when I get there.

How's Palawan? Can you give an idea of your total monthly cost to grind there?

Anybody tried setting up shop in Boracay? Or Baguio?

Definitely looking forward to tropical weather!

I studied immigration field and that sounds like standard procedure stuff. I guess if you have further problems, just try calling your country's local embassy/consulate and ask for directions.

I got my extension and I didn't have a particularly good reason in my sworn statement. Also, I should correct my post: Extensions past 16 months require special permission.

I'm in El Nido now.

I wouldn't even try to grind here. Might be different in PP but I doubt it. Internet is the same in every province in the Philippines - slow as molasses and completely unreliable. Not to mention constant brownouts during the day and NO electricity at night.

okay guys another request for tips: looks like we're gonna be back in PP around 13-14th of january (returning from el nido) and have to be back in Manila on 19th. What would you do? right now what i've been thinking is either fly to cebu and go somewhere from there for a few days or make some smaller trips to islands etc and check out Sinulog festival, or explore southern part of Palawan, although i have no clue if there is anything worth seeing/doing. Really only looked up info for PP and el nido so far.

or if you have some ideas that are superior to those they will be appreciated

i know this is question is kinda vague so not expecting anyone give too detailed answers but just something general and i can look it up myself in more detail

thanks

waiting so much to get there in jan. I've read some mixed things about the amount of tourists there, what's your view on that? too many? i'd imagine it's not the same kind of tourism than in Thailand for example (meaning families, older people etc) due to the fact that it's harder to get there and infrastructure is what it is, or?

Anyone get a tailored suit in Manila? I just assumed it would be easy like Thailand, Hong Kong etc, but I've struggled to find anywhere that hasn't got shoddy reviews.

I've heard getting a room in Cebu around sinulog is pretty hard, not been myself at that time so cannot confirm personally, but you might want to check room availability in advance before booking flights and stuff.

Just got of the phone with a Swhab rep and all the above is confirmed!

Just to reiterate; no ATM fees, no foreign transaction fees, and no currency conversion fees. Withdrawl 10K php's and the equivalant according to that days excahnge rate is withdrawn from your account.

SO SWEET!!

After trolling this thread for a long time this is the best banking advice, not realted to starting your PS or FT account anyway, I have received. This should be like a a sticky or something in this thread as it is a reacurring theme that comes up like every third page or whatever.

yeah worth it to go to HK or Sing imo. If I had to get one here, IDK Ascott Chang or King Philip.

How would you fund your Schwab bank if you only have money on pokersites/Neteller?

I also have / use the schwab account. For US, I didn't need 10k to open. It is A+, esp when abroad.
