How far is Pasig from decent nightlife, gyms, restaurants, etc in Manila? Found a decent place there with DSL so I can skip the PLDT re-installation nightmare.

It's Mayfield Park Residences... 4 km south of Sta Lucia East Grand Mall. 6 km east of SM Hypermarket Pasig. I will check it out after I arrive on the 20th.

I probably just have to hoof it around in the high end condo areas in Makati/Forbeswood/Eastwood/wherever until I find some short term place with DSL already installed. Apartment hunting in the PI is such a hassle...

Have any recommendations for short term apartments with DSL?

I have seen a couple listings on the internet, but I don't want to rent through a broker if I can help it.

Less than a month, I'd look on Airbnb, Craigslist, and Sulit, and send out as many messages as I can. More than a month, I'd just get a hotel for the first week and find something in person.

Jeff, try couch surfing for a great exp and with someone to show you around. The internet is pretty expensive too. I pay 100USD for 6mb speed which drops to .15mb at from 8-12pm

Yes and yes (well, I guess it depends on how you define "many").

If congress and the PNP are bitching about how it shouldn't be legal and they want to change it, then it must be legal.

I think this is rly not safe.
I personally care a lot bout this topic and so far never heard that it is OFFICIALLY legal and taxfree in the phillipines.
Have you any sources regards to your knowledge in this regard?

If it is not written in the law, they will have no reason to pursue charges (of what, anyway?) against you. It may be different if you're operating an unlicensed gambling business, but players should have nothing to worry about.

And besides, if they did enact some law, unless they aggressively hunted down online poker players, it's unlikely they would commit resources sufficient to track down individuals who use common sense and stay under the radar.

The banks would have no interest in outing online poker deposits. There is no lobbying group powerful enough to make the government override the discretion of the banking system.

This is opinion. If you want sources, I can try to dig around.

I haven't read the regulations, but I believe that is part of the requirement for an online gambling license.

http://calvinayre.com/online-gaming-...a/philippines/

"CalvinAyre.com says – The Philippines is a unique and highly valuable gaming license to hold as it’s the sole license available to companies who want to do business in the highly lucrative Asian Gaming Market. A license with First Cayagan is worth the price of admission. (5 Stars)"

"Restrictions on Jurisdictions from which you can take Wagers:
Bets can only be accepted from offshore players and only on offshore sporting events. No bets to be accepted from Filipino residents or on sporting events in the Philippines."

Can we get a consensus on the best method of deposit/withdrawal for Stars in the Philippines?

I have a BPI debit card but its a Cirrus member which is the most common atm network here, wala na mastercard or visa.

If you go here http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/real-money/ and select Phils, out of the four deposit options only Webmoney seems viable as MC,Visa and entropay will all be blocked for those of us from the states. I guess if you have a philippines issued MC or Visa then your in business.

Yes, that might be the actual case. But as long as there is no specific law against it there's no actual problem IMO. I mean, its only until recently that countries have started really regulating poker (spain, france, italy etc). I feel very secure playing poker from the Philippines, and I'm pretty certain nobody's ever gotten into any legal trouble for doing so, unless you're specifically breaking some kind of law (for example money laundering, fraud etc).

Just my 2 cents.
