people rob vegas casinos all the time, no innocent bystanders ever get hurt because security is told to let the guys go and then try to follow them

sure, anyone could walk into a vegas casino and do the same thing as this guy did but the same could be said for a wal mart or a mcdonalds

some dudes jacking watches really didnt put anyone in harms way

If they have loaded guns with them there is always some chance for harm to be done.

From your comment about the rake being too high now, I was just pointing out that armed robberies happen in Vegas casinos as well, actually I wasn't trying to argue that casinos are dangerous places I was pointing out that such things can and will happen anywhere in the world and really aren't good reasons to worry about going to places just because armed robberies have occured there before.

Check which terminal you're getting out of. Also, I would usually tell them to take the Skyway for a quicker ride (costs 20 php more?). Peak from Terminal 2 isnt bad actually, maxing out at around 40 minutes. Non peak would be about 12 minutes. For Terminal 3, I've had some that were 2 hours at peak time, and 20 minutes off peak.

Can anyone confirm/deny the current status there?

Also, has anybody played ins the new Winford Room in Manila? How ais the action there?

Thx

Just a heads up - bpi changed their policy again with regards to withdrawing using a foreign card. Can now take out 20k again per transaction.

Not sure if this is groundbreaking news but it def would've saved me a couple hundred bucks over the last few months.

Unless has changed was always able to withdraw 40k using HSBC. Save a lot on the foreign card transaction fees that way.

the HSBC in makati? there is only one HSBC branch in Metro Manila right?
that makes it no very convenient if you urgently need cash at Solaire or CoD

do you have a Visa card or a Union Pay?

I have a lot of troubles as a european. My VISA card gets rejected in MANY ATM , mainly from smaller PH banks, the only bank to always accept my card in BDO. But i'm always capped at 10K. In addition I was able to also use my AMEX for withdrawal at BDO as well as a backup plan, but also capped at 10K.

Are you guys saying i can withdraw 40k usd from HSBC Card at Atm or in the branch pls

At the HSBC ATM outside or next to the branch. You don't see any random HSBC atms on their own outside 7/11 or something, it's always next to a branch and there's not many of them.

But no you don't need to go up to the desk in the branch.

For whatever reason my card never worked with HSBC when I tried several months ago. My buddy did withdraw 40k and was charged an absurd amount by his bank.

I thought they used some sort of inflated international conversion rate?

40k pesos not USD lol

I actually compared total charged amount for 10k withdrawal between BPI, BDO, and HSBC few years ago and found HSBC to be best but that may have changed or have been specific to US bank I use? For me that in addition to fact that allowed largest withdrawal made HSBC only choice

are a few HSBC locations (google is amazing) but admittedly not as many as local banks nor near any casinos that I've seen

Charles Schwab tho. No fees and they reimburse the other bank's fees.

This is a recommendation strictly for Canadians, but in order to negate ALL your international transaction fees (applied to your Canadian bank), get an "All Inclusive" Savings account with TD. You will need to leave a basement of 5k in your account at all times, but well worth it to avoid those exuberant international withdrawing fees

or find a filipina you trust (it took me several tries over 2 years)
have her open a BDO account, have her open a paypal account and a coins.ph account and be in control to move money around until it reaches her BDO.. (use a VPN with Phils IP when under her name) and if you have an ACR card, you can have a joint account instead of just her name if you prefer

if you stay long term there, it may make sense to PURCHASE under her name some housing instead of renting 20k per month.. I first bought an NHA held property (one basically buys the right to settle there, title remains with NHA).. this type of housing you can find already between 250k and 400k php - so you basically amortize it after just 1 year
If you want something higher end with a clean title in a subdivision with guards, it will be around 1.4 M for good value
Of course you can then consider your own condo on your own name too but I like houses better.. and those are restricted to the nationals
They passed a law against 'dummies' ownership, so be careful not to set up a trust establishing you are the economical owner for her fronting.. but you can be creative around it and establish your usufruct a.o.

All this is just outside Metro Manila either north (bulacan) or south (Cavite).
Baguio up north is maybe for next year - land price much higher there due to the unique climate

Glad that's working out for you, but I'd say for 99% of the people here I would not recommend it.
