Malaysia would be the cheapest, Air Asia clark-Kuala Lumpur is about 6000 pesos for a round trip. Electronics are pretty cheap in Kuala Lumpur, check out Low Yat Plaza.

In BKK there is only pantip plaza where you can get laptops at alright prices and the prices there are nothing special.

I've never looked for eletronics in Malaysia, but I'd be surprised if their pricing would end up being better.

HK prices can be pretty good if you know what you want (specs wise as some brands are overpriced) and where to get it (fancy upscale malls are for suckers).

You can also get a 5 day short term visa for shenzhen at the border, but chinese IT market malls can be a bit intimidating though as you're the fish in their shark tank and all the dealers are trying to get a piece of you. If your negotiating skills are alright and you don't mind the language barriers you can get very good deals on lenovo laptops.

US online retailers like newegg = the nuts in terms of pricing

I'm not sure if johnny air is somehow able to get around import taxes with connections, but if that is the case then it'd be the nuts.

The Philippines are way overpriced when it comes to anything of firstworld standards and you directly feel the impact of corruption and poor governance on your wallet.

Even nice furnitures are hard to come by at reasonable prices. Just look at all the $1000+ apartments that look like anyone could furnish them a lot better for a few hundred dollars at Ikea in western countries.

I know there's also My Shopping Box and Manilaforwarder and probably some others, but haven't used them as I've been pretty happy with Johnny Air.
thanks for the info, i checked with JAC and they gave me a breakdown of $7.50/pound to metro manila or $8.50/pound to province + $5 service fee + $50 customs fee for laptops + 12%vat, with all that it still comes out to $200-$400 less than buying the some of the models i was looking at on newegg would cost here.

Thanks, might rent there.

Do you think Joya / Manansala / One Rockwell is a lot better facility / management wise that it'd warrant a premium of 5-10k compared to a studio at Grand Soho for 20k?

I figure it's so close by cab it's not really worth it but maybe I'm wrong.

In terms of the buildings, I'm not 100% sure given I didn't stay in Grand Soho long enough to have any problems (that's sort of when it shows), but in terms of the day to day of the inside of the building Rockwell is a little nicer but I'd be just as happy in Grand Soho.

The real thing that makes a difference in a country like this is being next to a mall where you can get groceries/lots of food places. I noticed that I had to walk around quite a bit without a car to get much food variety in Grand Soho; if that hadn't been the case I might have stayed there longer.

Grand Soho isn't near anything.

If you want something centrally located and near malls, look into Soho Central in Mandaluyong. 2 min to MRT, 2 min to Shangri-La Plaza mall, 5 min to Star Mall, 10 min to SM Megamall, 5 min cab/jeep to Kapitolyo, 10 min cab/jeep to Metrowalk. I lived there for 1 year 8 months. PM me and I'll tell you who/what to look for.

Yeah sure Im not just talking about hookers, its not hard to pick up girls in the nightclub here but its kind of polite to kiss them before you go for the knickers.

I use City Bank but they have HSBC here to which I think is international. Defo no ANZ dont know about the others

Well I use my UK account just withdraw through their cashpoints as pretty sure I pay less Rake that way.

I do also have an Australian ANZ account but they were smashing me with charges so I shipped all my cash home.

do the math on your withdrawals and see what exchange rate you are really getting

they claim no foreign withdrawal fees but they just hide the 3% in the exchange rate

ugh.... im not gonna get into my whole rant on the, but within my first 3 weeks outside of the states i found out they lied to me in like 7 different ways

Yeah I get bumped 2% in the exchange rate, me and a pal sat and worked it out the other day that theres not that much difference except City Bank let you take 15k whilst the others only let you take 10k.

Also dont think there is a 200 peso charge per withdrawl with City bank or at least the cashpoint doest tell you this.

I got told you can withdraw 30k from HSBC but that is more than my cards maximum.
