It isn't an image thing. You can definitely play this hand profitably in the main event. Folding is a mistake.

Re: WSOP ME Gross Spot

Iso pre or fold Q8. Would you overlimp Q7s here? prob not right? so Q8s is a snap overcall? LOL I'm amazed by how many regs really have no fundamental understanding of reverse implied odds. When you get a lot of chips in on QQx or 88x or flop a flush, guess what? you could be drawing completely dead! Your hand sucks and you're never drawing to the nuts. I've played the main like 7 times now and it amazes me how many 'good' players go broke in these so-called "cooler" spots. Its a 7-8 day tournament FFS, 'coolers' happen..its your job to avoid going broke when they do. One of the main keys to navigating the largest and softest event of the year is keeping decisions as easy as possible and avoiding marginal spots. As played, I'd fold but I'd likely never be in this spot in the first place. If you raised pre, and then got it in on the flop are you posting this thread?

You're going to have to do a little better than this if you're going to make sophomoric comments about players' understanding of IO/RIO.

Both folding or limping are fine imo, i c what ur saying vinny about the reverse implied odds but ur rarely ending up playing for stacks. If u fold q8s what about q9s or q10s? I dont like ur raise sizing from 600 to 1500 after one call, i like 1950 or 2025 better. Once he raises you its a wtf spot but u could be drawing dead to chop or slightly ahead vs big draws. I think i like the fold.

at very specific tables it would be, if you had a bunch of good players to your left who were gonna iso real wide/3b your iso wide/basically make your life hell then sure it would be legitimate to fold. its just those tables dont really come about too often early in day 1 of the ME.

or it cud just be this

Re: WSOP ME Gross Spot

This is the type of hand that I think you need to iso preflop if you are going to play it. I fold this hand most of the time. I just don't see a ton of value in Q8s, Q9s on the other hand well......

Ne wayz, tough spot OP

actually, I don't have to do anything at all. I never claimed to be an expert on IO/RIO nor do I coach, but I DO know when people are lighting money on fire playing hands in ways that are considered 'standard'. Pretty clear there are a bunch of people ITT that don't understand the concept at all and def don't think about it enough when making decisions.

yes, but this is a perfect example where the OP IS actually considering playing for stacks. He now has a straight and has absolutely no idea what to do bec of his passive (read: awful) line preflop. There is a difference betw Q8s and Q9s/QTs as the latter two can make nut straights. That may seem like splitting hairs for some of you, but it isn't. You have to draw the line somewhere. Again, IMO raise and Iso pre >=fold>call. Raising pre makes all of your decisions so much easier on all future streets. I'll ask again, if OP Iso-d pre w Q8s, is this even a thread? or do you think I'm simply being results-oriented?
