First level of Day 2 so BB is 600. Scotty has been pretty tight and I have as well. We have been playing for about 20 minutes so not many hands dealt in that timespan.

Scotty -- 110k
Hero -- 49k

2nd to act Scotty makes it 1700. I'm in the hijack with AJ and I 3bet to 5200. He calls. Heads up. Flop is

QJ8. I check behind.

Turn 3. He checks and calls 3800.

River 7. He checks. Do I check or bet? If bet, how much? FWIW my friend played with him on Day 2 of the ME last year and said he was a pretty tight player the whole time, and that has been the case in this short session as well.

Thanks in advance.

3-bet pre seems ambitious against a tight players UTG+1 3x open. Flop check looks good. Turn I'd fire more. Since we bet so small on the turn I like another small bet otr.

What are you hoping to get value from? He has no worse Jacks. TT or 99? Those make sense, but is he calling the river? I check behind, but thin value isn't exactly my specialty.

Don't love the 3-bet pre with AJs because I really want to see a flop with that hand but we can't really call a 4-bet.

As played flop and turn are fine. We really are only trying to get called by a worse J, third pair or flush draw so I don't mind the small bet on the turn. Checking behind the river more often than not. Guess it's conceivable he has KJs or JTs but he may not pay off with much worse and will realistically have lots of Qx in his range that he might check-call two streets with.

I doubt worse is calling but you have showdown value. You don't want to get check-raised. I think the right line is to check behind.

I think that's basically correct. This board isn't great for getting light call downs from like 99 or TT. I'd just check behind take the likely win.

Nh bettings fine so is checking otr I lean towards x since your pretty capped here and I don't wanna get x/shoved on

This is the top of our check flop bet turn value range right? Do we ever have any bluffs that check flop bet turn and bet river?

Thanks for the replies. I checked behind on the end and beat pocket tens.

I am about to post a couple more hands (big pots) that I would like feedback on.

I'm value betting the river. I think Scotty will be exploitative with his line in that you are very rarely beat, after he checks turn on a wet board. I suppose you may see a hand like QT sometimes, but more heavily waited towards hands like TT/99 or a worse jack.

Seems like a pretty clear check, he has almost no weaker Jx assuming he folds anything but JTs/KJs somewhere pre. I think he is almost more likely to fold QT here than he is to call 88. I can easily imagine him playing AQ this way too. Also a small % chance you get bluff checkraised or call off a c/r and he shows you a better hand.

You see AQ checking flop and turn on this board? Or any Q that defends against a 3-bet?I'm really hard pressed to see a single value hand better than ours that he plays this way. With our tiny turn bet, him almost never having better, and us being at the top of our range I think a small river value bet is totally reasonable. And I don't think I'm b/f either.

B/F on the river has merit as I doubt an old school player like Scotty is going to C/R rivers light

Easy check, pre/turn decisions more interesting imo. I've played him a couple of times and he was a nit even in a $400 buyin

i love bet fold here as played vs a known villain who is not going to be showing a fancy check raise bluff this early in the main event.

so easy print money vs his JTs or T8s whatever crap he hoped to bink with

Check back for me. I don't like the 3bet... tight UTG+1 3x raise. Why are you 3betting?

Likely fold out those behind, denying both their equity and for the CO/button their positional advantage, get heads up against a tight player who will overfold hands he shouldn't etc. Not saying it's superior to calling (3-betting we are making the pot bigger against a range that has many better hands), but there are merits.
