WSOP 1K Hand

After dinner break in the 1K tournament, I am probably close to chip leader at this point with over 36K chips. Villain in this hand has approximately 23K. Blinds are 150/300 w/ ante (not sure if 25 or 50). Folds to Villain on Button who raises to 650. Villain had been fairly active and my read was that he was a little nervous, so probably a mid 20's online player, capable of floating in position and opening/3betting light.

I am in BB w/ QQ and re-raise to 1775. Button flats.

Flop comes J 9 4 rainbow. I bet 2150, button calls. Turn is an A. I bet 3,600, button flats. River is a 3.

As, played, which play do you like best on river and why? Assume villain shoves river if checked to.

Re: WSOP 1K Hand

I've changed my mind about this a few times. I wanted to say this is a bet/fold spot, but I hate villain's stack size. So check/fold is probably best. You'll still be around 28k when you fold. Find a better spot. How often is villain bluff-shoving?

I guess it doesn't really matter to assume villain will shove river.

Villain has a little less than a PSB left, if he bets 1/2 pot or shoves river are you more or less likely to call?

Re: WSOP 1K Hand

How does villain react to small value bets? have you played with him long?
What has he shown down by flat calling 3 streets on dry boards?

If we check he is betting 100% of his aces and all of his non paired hands, in a vacuum I think he checks back Jx unless he has a good read on you and wants to turn those into a bluff as well to get you off of QQ and KK.

If he is super aggro I think C/C may be more right than any other play. It keeps all of his floats, straight draws, etc in his river betting range as well as his Ax hands.
I also think a lot of his weaker Ax hands will be checking behind as well, which helps weight his river shoving/betting range to be bluffy.

I don't hate C/F the river either. If he shoves that/s 35 BBs and there should be other spots to get your money in. In a complete vacuum I C/F.

I really hate a barrel though, glad that wasn't one of your concerns.

Re: WSOP 1K Hand

I wouldn't expect V to check behind often. How did he get to 23K? What has he shown down in previous spots? Start by checking and then you will need to soul-read & decide.

BTW, what would you done if he raised the turn?

Re: WSOP 1K Hand

If he raised turn, I would have for sure folded. I had only been at the table for maybe an hour so I didn't have any real reads on the player. KQ, Q10, Jx, 9X, are definitely in this players range, so it's just a confusing spot for me. I feel if I don't bet turn, my range is narrowed to exactly QQ and KK and I could still be ahead on the turn here. Any thoughts as to turn sizing? If I make it more like 5,100 on the turn and he calls I can safely C/F river? Thoughts?

Re: WSOP 1K Hand

wtf at turn lead. you don't want ak to be a part of your perceived range on this turn. you're crushing his pocketpairs, jx, and 8xs and his floats that smacked that turn are crushing you. you have blockers to his possible draws. check the turn and make a decision.

Thoughts on betting like 1850 or 2150 as blocker and folding to raise? Unless u think he has airballs and will bluff river if u check. Hes mostly checking back river with medium showdown hands like kj

Not gonna lie I most likely check/fold here on the river, but I would prefer a larger bet on the river to avoid him calling off with Ax. I don't usually like the idea of turning your hand into a bluff but when I do, I make it close to a PSB on the river, hell just put him all in and mind **** him.
